  1. My boyfriend asked if I would post and get an opinion or two..........

He is looking to find a tuner chip for an 08 Edge Limited. He has narrowed the field to three choices and wants to find the best one overall. Looking for one that will not take a toll on the mileage while improving performance. (and a partridge in a pear tree would be nice too....)

    The choices are 1. Superchips

    2. Hypertech

    3. Jet Performance Products

Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. :)

  2. Given the way gas prices are going we decided we will not be buying our 2008 SEL when it comes off lease.

The family loves the Edge but we have a Honda Van for the kiddie mobile. It holds more and is getting better mileage than the Edge. Not nearly as good a looking car but by the time we are off lease the kids will be old enough to down size to a much more fuel efficient small car.

I am really impressed with the Edge as I have avoided Fords for years but our next purchase will be focused on fuel efficiency first and then looks. At 1.23 per litre driving a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a fridge and a nice big powerful engine is not really an option anymore.

Wow I wish gas was only 1.23/L here. In my town it ranges from 1.28 - 1.32. But I know what you mean about the gas usage. Definitely not for the faint of heart - or light of wallet!!

Warm the motor up with a few moments of normal driving.

Then drive it hard for about 5 to 10 minutes, including gearing down the transmission manually to generate some engine braking....ie. pull it down to 2nd gear and make the motor hold back some to.

Then accelerate hard, and engine brake again.

Then park it, lt it idle down for 30 to 60 seconds, and shut it off.

Let it cool for an hour or more, and repeat the original step.

Do this about 5 times, and then change the oil and filter.

    Its now broken in.

Baby an engine, and it will never generate perfect ring seal.

And metal parts need to be heat cycled too.

Change the oil early on as well, do not leave it in the motor full of crap for long.

If you need more info GOOGLE "Motoman" and read up.

As a mechanic I have rebuilt, modded and broken in many engines.

Drive it slow, and it will always be slow.....my 2 cents

  4. :redcard: Why would your wife have a fit? Is she specting a baby at the same time? Would she feel completely left out to the point that her misery would outweigh her happiness for you?

    *makes no sense*.

There are people who don't like being outside their comfort zone. They create (sometimes imaginary) situations where they're not in charge so they don't have to do whatever it is that is making them uncomfortable. "Wife would have a fit" lands squarely in that zone.

E.g. True story: DH got a call from a friend asking him to go in on season tickets for the AZ Cardinals. DH is not a fan and isn't interested. Can't just tell friend, "not up my alley, but thanks." Tells friend "Linda said no." I wasn't even asked, only blamed.

So, if you want to go on an all expense trip, get a spine and be honest.

    A) Rare opportunity

    B) All expenses paid

    c) FARARRI for a WEEK (Maranello is not otherwise a cool city. It might as well be in Southern Indiana and you can quote me on that. It is not a romantic city, it is not full of wilesome women and it is not beautiful -- sorry in advance to those who live in Southern Indiana)

    d) If Italy is on her list of places to go (e.g. Florence, Venice, Rome -- not Milan or Maranello), then you can have a romantic week that you specifically plan for, put on the calendar and budget money for so you can go.

Simply to avoid the subject because the thought of "no" or her "having a fit" is beyond lame. If you don't go and blame her later??? Dude, you're a dead man.

Grow a set and have the conversation. Nicely. But have it.

    +1

If my DH had the opportunity to do the same, I might be bummed that he got to go and I didnt. I might be sad that I would miss him. I might even be pissed that he gets to jet off and leave me with the business, kids and all the household duties. BUT would I say NO or Have a fit?? Not on your life. The chance to do something so cool........just doesnt come around every day.

If the shoe was on the other foot and I had the opportunity, and my DH threw a fit, and said NO. If he was totally unreasonable, I would have to question our relationship..........

let us know how it goes..............

  5. I don't know if anyone caught the premiere of the new Knight Rider movie, but the bad guys were pursuing the new KIT in a Ford Edge!!! lol

It looked like a 2007 Sage Edge with BAMR. :shades: The new KIT (a Ford Mustang Shelby GT) had to take the mountain roads to elude it. lol. I found that amusing.

My boyfriend thought it was funny that the GT 500 KR couldnt out run an Edge. :hysterical:

  6. Gate,

I also live in a snowy climate. The Silver is awesome. I don't have any scratches yet... but even with the snow and salt, it takes a lot to make it look dirty. My wife has an 07 in that deep purple color... hers shows dirt almost after just washing.

Thanks - I am definitely leaning toward the Silver Vapor at this point. I think I will just have to see it in person to seal the deal!

  7. Hey RayoVac

I have been lurking around here for a while, but this is my first post. I am looking to get an Edge Limited this year, and Silver Vapor and Black are the colors I am trying to decide on. Having lived with your Silver Vapor for a while now, what do you think of it? Does it have its first scratch and if so, does it show up or does the lighter color cover it somewhat? How much does it take for it to start to look "dirty"?

I am living in the city right now, but later this year we are looking to move to a rural town. And a place with lots of snow in winter. Do you have any good tips for me?

    Thanks!
