  1. I know this is an old topic, but does any one know if the DRL option IN A 2008 in a 2008 Limited can be accessed using the AutoEnginuity Scan Tool with the Enhanced Ford Interface?

I have a 2008 Edge Limited. As a condition of the sale (brand new from the dealership) I asked for them to turn on DRL. When I went to pick it up, it was not enabled. They pulled the vehicle up to service, plugged in to the port drivers side under dash, went through some menus, and it has worked perfectly ever since. Took about 10 min start to finish.

    Hope this helps

  2. The dealers used to be able to turn on DRLs with software but not on the 2011s.

have to admit its been a LONG while since I last logged into the forum, so it was a pleasant surprise when one of my old threads was 'revived'...

so in the 2011's and later, how do they turn on DRLs now?

All the Edges are still made around the corner from my house here in Oakville, so I can't see there being different DRL equipment being installed in the Canadian vehicles from the US bound vehicles.

  3. Im curious as to the edge utilizes the high or the low beam bulb for the DRL. Most cars iv seen use the high beam bulb when on a dual bulb setup. The reason i ask is that i want to install HID bulbs on the low beam and DRL will not work with HID balasts. Many people on my Taurus forum have to disable the DRL when installing HIDs because Tauri only have a single bulb that works high and low. If the DRL uses the highs im going in to have them turned on.

sorry... DRL on my 08 Limited use low beam

  4. Hi Kyle. :D Obviously as you know, the law is different in Canada and they are required for all vehicles. All I can do is relay what the Owners Manual of US versions say, and what "Hardhawk" was told.

I don't swear by anything else, other than that.

Perhaps the law in the US does not allow that capability? I can not answer that question.

I guess until someone in the US (with a US registered, non-Canadian spec vehicle) can have that "DRL on while set to "Automatic" function" enabled, all we can do is guess.

    Good luck Kyle. :beerchug:

sorry - i should have mentioned again that I purchased my edge in buffalo due to strong canadian dollar. i then imported it into canada. it is a us vehicle (down to the miles not kilometeres on the speedometer).

i'm confident that if you too have a 2008 limited model (I can not speak to others as this is the only one i have experience with) and have the dealer turn them on, regardless what the manual says, they will work in automatic mode.

I have the 2008 Limited - and I checked before purchasing that it had the DRL capability prior to purchase. Sorry I don't know abut the SE model.

bbf2530 & Hardhawk: My DRL work fine when the headlight switch is at the Automatic position. In fact, I would not have been able to import it into Canada (or more specifically it would have failed the inspection) if at any switch position, the headlights were not on while moving.

Of course, as you've all stated, the DRL are off when the vehilce is in park.

  6. got it, thanks guys...

not sure why not standard now when it is on my 2000 VW - did safety research show it not really a safety advantage or something so some manufacturers made it an option instead of a standard feature? I thought it a pretty proven safety device to have them and so thought it odd they do not come standard with them turned on..

    kind of interesting info/article I found: http://www.nordicgroup.us/drl/

Search the Forum for other Daytime Running Light threads.

VERY easy for dealership to turn on for you (no more than a 15 minute job) by hooking up their computer and navigating a couple of menus.

If you have not already done so, make it a condition of your contract for same price.

  7. Wow, this is interesting stuff. I've been a computer hacker/upgrader all my life, and love tinkering with things to get better performance out of them, but I haven't messed around with tweaking a car's performance since the early 80's.

I've only had my 2008 Edge Limited two days, and am very happy with it so far, but this thread intrigues me.

I'll be hitting Google for more info on this kind of stuff, of course, but anyone have recommendations for good reading sites.

Also, some basic questions for a real car-knowledge-challenged guy:

How big a mileage hit would the "performance tunes" negatively affect fuel mileage?

How much improvement in mileage does the "economy tune" provide?

Are the tunes compatible with the 2008 FWD model, or does AWD impact the process?

Would this void the vehicle warranty in any way?

If I took the vehicle into the dealer for servicing, would they detect the tweaks, and would it be an issue?

I too am interested in these questions being answered before I take this plunge... anyone can shed some additional light?

  8. WARNING FOR EDGE OWNERS WITH CAMEL (TAN) INTERIOR

I received my WeatherTech "Tan" floor liners this morning, and they are BROWN, not tan. Despite the photos on their website, and even the photo on the box it is delivered in, the color is no where close to camel, sand, tan, etc.

I contacted WeatherTech directly (as they were the ones that drop-shipped them to me) but their customer service was standoffish and less than helpful (I just wanted to swap them for black).

The only saving grace was that I purchased them via AUTOANYTHING, and with their clout, they were able to expedite an exchange.

  9. I have searched these forums extensively for info on back up cameras, and found some success stories with 2rd party systems. I've also found short comments that the Factory NAV system supports this, but there are no further details provided.

I am looking for confirmation that there is an input for a back up camera in the rear of the Factory Installed NAV system. If so, what

Also, does any additonal wiring have to be done, other than power to the camera and running the appropriate cable from the camera to the NAV system? I'm specifically thinking about a wire into the wiring harness to indicate when the vehicle is in reverse (and therefore knows to show the camera on the NAV screen).

    Thanks

    Kyle

  10. I had mine activated while I waited, one day after the purchase. Dealer Tech took about 10 min's and this was done at no charge to me.

    Hi Gary

Can you post the name of the dealer (or PM me)? I would like to call them and ask their Service department for the high level 'how its done'. The dealer I have in Buffalo were quick to say they don't know how to do it so I would like to give them a little push. I pick up the car on Friday so I'm hoping to have them do it tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Kyle

  11. I finally took the plunge after tons of research! Here are some pictures of my 2007 MKX with the Audiovox DUAL DVD headrest package installed. Installation is pretty simple and straightforward. I will try to take some better pictures one night so I don't get all the glare. These came from http://www.headrestvideo.com/vsheadrests/f...eforumdisc.html - the quality of the material and stitching is great and the match to the factory interior is perfect. And please, spare me the whole "kids shouldn't need TV's in the car" stuff. This is for limited use as I do believe in conversation with your children.

I too am looking at DVD headrests, but am sceptical of your "review". Headrestsvideo.com website is very limited in information about their business. Their domain registration is similarly vague. where are they located? where did the headsets ship from? what is their non-800 telephone number?

If you don't mind, who else did you consider with your "tons of research"? What was it about the other products that didn't meet your criteria. What was your criteria? In my PERSONAL opinion, Audiovox is not a Tier 1 electronics supplier.

I apologize if its not, but your message seems closer to an advertisement for headrestvideo.com, than a legitimate posting.

  12. New member here and found your post interesting, mostly because I am Canadian. I am a big Edge/MKX fan and am looking to purchase my first as soon as better incentives are intro'd. (hope not to wait too long). I agree that the price difference presents a huge incentive to buy south of the border and have it shipped up, will likely save 5K Cdn. Problem is with the Warranty. Apparently Ford will not support the warranty in Canada if purchased this way. So unless you are willing to travel back to the states every time you need maintenance then this will potentially be a big issue. Just my view from up here. Good Forum.

check your facts (preferably not at a canadian dealer). the warranty is 100% valid for vehicles purchased in the US and registered in canada

  13. As was noted on the thread earlier, please keep in mind that if you have an external harddrive you may have to plug it to the power outlet in addition to USB. USB port can only supply a limitted amount of current that is usually not enough for a large harddrive to spin up.

Also, please keep in mind that the harddrive must be PC formatted (FAT or FAT-32), not Mac.

    What about NTFS?

    Thx Kyle

  14. I too am looking for winter tires for my 2008 Edge Michelin P245/60R18 tires. I have always purchased Michelin winter tires and have been very happy with their performance.

Unfortunately, I learned today that they do not make a winter tire in this size.

Other than looking at another tire manufacturer, what size options do I have if I want to keep using the original 18" rims (I'm not too sure about the width to sidewall to radius relationships).

    Thanks for any help!

  15. Hi All

Does anyone have, or know of where I can find the specifics on Canadian Invoice Pricing for the 2008 AWD models (including options).

Also, can anyone clairify if the dealer hold-back (3%) is same up here as it is in the US.

    Thanks!

Anyone? I want to arrive at the dealer with a complete understanding of his costs. From some of the posts out there, it maybe possible to negotiate a better deal than the X plan.

My current lease is running out and I need to act fast.

    Thanks again in advance!

    Kyle
