  1. Just curious to see what people took AFTER they closed the deal for their cars?

     

    After we finalized the price this week for the car, they took me down stairs into the "dungeon" and tried to sell me tons of extras, it was a full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with about 20 extra options I could take / that they tried to sell me.

     

    Just curious if everyone goes through this and if you opted to take any of them?

     

    I like the extended warranty for 5 years, but at almost $2000 I am not sure if I can, I'm already at the top of my budget with this car and not much room for more, if I had the 2k, I prob would have taken the AWD that I wanted.

     

    The only ones that REALLY interest me is the rust proofing they offered and the Sherlock engraving.

     

    The rust proofing is some sort of wax, they claim it will last 10 years and I wont have to do it again for at least that long vs. typical oil and chemical that you must do every year. I usually do the chemical based rust proof, it's called DuraTech, it worked well but not sure how it compares to the wax based solution the dealer wants to offer me. The dealer's rustproof is also $599....

     

    Sherlock seems like a good idea, my insurance have me a discount on the premium based on this. They are asking $299 for this option and engrave 50 places, just not sure I want to see engravings everyone I look, especially my side mirrors and windows.

     

    Anyone take any of these features or something else worth considering?

    I am curious about the engravings what do they actually engrave?

     

    I went for the 6 year 75000 mile maintenance plan that was 1600.00 because the way my dealer described it was "it basically covers everything you have to do on a regular basis other than putting gas in the car". More or less it covers all of the factory recommended maintenance ie. Oil changes and tire rotations every 5000 miles, brakes whenever they wear out, any and all filters, all the factory recommended system flushes, and wiper blades which living in an area where we get a lot of snow and ice I go through at lease 2 or 3 sets a year.

    The way I looked at it an oil change with semi synthetic runs me 25-30 plus the time to do itself and around 50 to go somewhere and have them do it. So that will be 15 oil changes or a savings of $450 if I do it myself $750 if I were to take it somewhere each time. That was roughly half of the cost so by the time I take into account a brake job maybe 2 the 60,000 mile vehicle maintenance checkup and random filters, fluids, flushes, and wiper blades it would probably even out. Also the fact that the dealer is only half a mile from my office means that it will be convenient to use.

     

    My dealer also threw in life time car washes which is minor but something at lease.

  2. Thanks for the remote start update. As far as the lock feature are you sure the doors didn't unlock once you walked near the car? May lock as you walk away and automatically unlock once you become within range

     

    No the way the auto unlcok works it unlocks when you grab the door handle. This way it only unlocks when you are actually trying to get into the car and not just walking by.

    I did use the remote start yesterday since it was around 90 degrees when I was leaving my office. I started it about 5 minutes before I was leaving and when I got in it was nice and cool with the AC on full blast to cool down the car to my auto setting. I was stuck at a lot of red light on my way home so I decided to explore some of the functions on the screen left of the odometer and found all of the settings for remote start. You can change the interval that it stays on for, Heating or AC depending on inside temp of the car, heating the seats there is an on/off for each seat so you can choose which one if any you want heated. I forget what all else but I was very impressed with how many options you have and that you can literally set it to do exactly what you want.

     

    One thing I have noticed with the auto locking/unlocking is I would like to see an auto lock setting for once the car is turned off in case you were to forget to lock it or leave the keys in the car. The only reason I noticed this is I went into somewhere for lunch forgot to hit lock and when I came out 20 minutes later the car was still unlocked. Does anyone know if there is anywhere you can set it to auto lock after a period of time with the car sitting?

    I got the call from my dealer yesterday at noon that it was getting offloaded and he made sure that it was ready for me to pick-up by 6pm last night. I am not sure how long this usually takes but I think it was in part due the dealership only being about 2 blocks from my office so I stopped everyday on my way home this week to check and see if it was in. So I think he may have just wanted to get me out of his hair :yup: Anyway I was cruising on home by 8pm :shift: Hope you get yours today and all is well.

So I was driving to Buffalo New York yesterday from Cleveland and kept seeing Car carriers with a few new edges on them, I know that mine would be on an Allied Systems truck so I kept trying to see if I saw any Kona Blue Edges as their trucks went by. I saw one with an Edge that looked like the one I ordered at about 9am headed west right as we got to Buffalo and said to my co-worker wouldn’t it be funny if that truck was headed to my dealer. Well at about noon I got a call from my dealer that the truck had just pulled in with my Edge. I don’t know for sure if I did actually see mine but the timing worked out perfect so I like to think now that the one I thought could be mine actually was. Any how my dealer said that he had told the guys in the shop that it was there top priority to have it ready for me to pick up no later than 6pm. Just in case anyone is wondering about a timeline,

     

    June 16th: order placed with dealer priority of 10

    August 5th: VIN assigned

    August 16th: Assigned to week of August 30th

    August 18th: Assigned to week of September 6th

    August 20th: Status updated to "Order Processing" scheduled to September 9th

    August 31st: Scheduled to Ramp 60 for September 13th

    September 11th: Complete sitting at ramp 60 "awaiting shipment"

    September 13th: Origin Received awaiting shipment

    September 14th: Released to Allied Systems awaiting shipment

    September 15th: "In Transit" as of 7:12am

    September 22nd: 12:00pm Arrived at dealer

    September 22nd: 6:00pm "Sign on the dotted line" and accept vehicle.

     

    Just in case anyone is trying to get some sort of comparison to the time that they have already waited or what to plan for, this will at least give you some sort of idea of what I waited.

     

    Initial impressions:

    Overall appearance of the car: Love it! In my opinion the new grill looks way better than the old one and really stands out against the dark car color. I opted for the black leather interior which is really well put together and very comfortable.

    Driver Entry package: Awesome! I love that I can walk up to the door with the key fob in my pocket and touch the handle and the doors all unlock. Push button start is also pretty nice and I think with come in handy this winter when I have my key in my pocket and don’t want to try and fiddle with them.

    Cargo Area: One thing I would have liked to see is a little compartment build into the side of the cargo space for jumper cables and such so that they don’t have to be just laying on the floor. But I did notice that if you lift the piece that covers the area where the spare is you do have a little room on either side of the spare that you could potentially put some things like jumper cables, but space is limited.

    All Weather floor mats: These are worth the $75.00 for sure. They are custom molded for the car, the driver side ones clip to the floor with 2 buttons to make sure they don’t slide around and the rear one is one continuous piece to cover the whole back seat floor. And of course they say Edge on them in the tread.

    The car handles great and so far is getting great gas mileage. I reset the MPGs as I left the dealer and was getting around 31MPGs when I got off the highway by my house. This is way better than I was expecting but we will see what it averages out to be.

    Adaptive cruise control: I love this, it works way better than I thought it would and it actually seems like it applies the breaks if someone merges in front of you and is to close. One thing that I did notice though is be careful if you are on a ramp merging onto another highway as this morning on my way to work it didn’t register that they was a car closer that the distance I had set due to the curve of the ramp and it started to try and speed up for a second until it sensed the other car again. The BLIS system that I think is packaged with the adaptive cruise is also great. I noticed as I was driving down the highway that when I would pass someone or if someone passed me the little light in the mirrors comes on the entire time that they are to close for you to merge regardless of whether you turn your signal on or not. Speaking of signals I like the "merging signal" which when you don’t click the signal all the way in the direction you are turning it will activate for 4 blinks then shut off on its own.

    Now on to what most people care about, My Ford: So far so good, I haven’t really explored everything that it can do yet but so far it works great. The touch is pretty sensitive and is easy to navigate. The steering wheel controls are pretty easy to use and get to exactly what you want to do which is awesome. I like that in Nav mode you can pull up the forecast and weather maps for the area you are driving in too. One thing I don’t like and I may just have not figured out the shortcut yet but when you are in nav mode there is no easy way to get to the traffic screen to see if there is traffic any ware. Now I also may have just not been driving in enough traffic for it to alert me on its own. I haven’t played with the phone features to much yet but it did download my phone book in seconds. I don’t have and voice calling saved in my phone so as of right now I am not able to use the call _______ feature but the dial by number works great, you don’t even have to speak unbelievable slow like some other systems. Entertainment I haven’t really played with a whole lot yet but I did try and put my Cameras SD card in and I couldn’t figure out how to get the pictures. Climate control I didn’t really play with the touch screen too much. So far I have used the steering wheel buttons the most for the climate control or I found myself just hitting the buttons that are around the sound control.

     

     

    So what is everyone else experiencing with their new Edge? Anyone having any problems with the My touch?

  6. Well, just checked the "syncmyride" site and everything is fixed now and it shows the exact software installations as yours Wilson. So we're in the same boat at this point. Still hoping that I'll get mine late next week. I'm only a 5 - 6 hour truck ride from Oakville. Fingers and toes crossed.

    As of this morning mine shows all that information also. It says that it was installed yesterday. I was told mine is scheduled to a ramp for monday and according to my sticker it will be traveling by truck also. I am a 5-6 hour drive to so if you happen to be in the Cleveland Ohio area it sounds like our edges might be traveling to Cleveland together.

    Anyone know what those codes are?

    Well mine has had 5 of the moxes filled in since the day that I was able to see my sticker so I am not sure if that is the best judge of what is going on with it. Mine was not in the production phase till the 1st and wasnt released to the plant till the 7th and they have been filled in the entire time. Does anyone happen to know what each of the different boxes and codes mean?

  8. Well my Edge is "In production" and "released to plant" It has a scheduled production date of today. It also says that it is scheduled to a ramp for 9/13/10. What does it mean when it is scheduled to a ramp? Does it usually sit there for a while before it ships? Also it is being shipped by Convoy so my hope is that it will ship from the plant faster since it will only have to wait for 1 truck load rather than 1 train load to be finished and loaded. Does anyone happen to know how everything works when it is at this point?

  9. Does anyone know how long after the sync software is installed that it will show up as a valid VIN on the Sync owner site? I am kind of hopeing that it is almost instant so that when it pops up as being valid I will know that mine is pretty much driving off the line at that point,

  10. I got an update on 8/31/10 that my 2011 Edge Limited was "in Production". I just called today and they said that it IS BUILT as of today and is scheduled to a ramp for 9/13/10. Does anyone know how long it takes to ship once it is scheduled to a Ramp? I am in Cleveland Ohio, in case that makes a difference. Also I think that someone had said on here that they were able to get the tracking information for the rail company and were able to track it much like when you use UPS or FedEx. Is this something that my dealer should be able to provide me?

  11. As far as I know you need the VIN in order to track anything. But in my case, I've had the VIN for over a week now and still get the "not found in our system" message from http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=

     

     

    I got my VIN on August 6th and my sticker just became availible on September 2nd. It will show up as not found in system until the status is switched to "In Production" this usually happens a week or 2 before your Build Date.

Also my dealer said that they got an update saying that there is a shortage of some part for all of the 2011's that might delay the overall production of the 2011's. Has anyone else heard anything like this or know what part it is that is in short supply?

  14. It depends on a few factors: Are you getting a loan? Right now Ford has employee pricing which is worth $5000.00 on the 2011. If your paying cash you should be able to get at least $1500.00 more off the price. Have them throw in some goodies (mats, bug deflector etc.) Do not pay the list price (sticker). It is a hot vehicle, but the market is'nt easy in the $40,000 range, so they should be able to go down. Make them a fair offer....let them refuse......walk away (leave your number). They will call you back within a week. Also if there is more than one dealer near buy, try the same strategy and see who bites.

     

    I just looked online and in my area they are offering an additional "$1000 Promotional Retail Bonus Customer Cash" I am using either X or Z plan does anyone know if I will be eligable for this additional $1000.00 even though I will be using a pin?

When I checked on the 13th it said that it was scheduled to the week of 8/30/10 and then last week it got pushed to the week of 9/6/10 and today she said 9/9/10 which is the same as the week of 9/6/10 but she said that could change. Is this typical for the dates to keep changing every week? Does anyone know what it means when it is in order processing but assigned to a week?

  18. My dealer just sent me an email saying that he just received my VIN number (which I received on August 6th from the CRC) and it is different then what the CRC gave me. I haven’t told him that I have had it for a few weeks yet because I don’t want him to get mad that I went around him when I wasn’t getting the info I want. Any thoughts on why they would be different or do you think it is just a mistake?

  19. Might need everyones help. So I have been dealing with my longtime dealer in Blair Nebraska. I have stopped in twice and both times I knew more about the 2011 Edge then they did. I saw the jgilles post (Thanks) today and called them up. Thomas at the dealer told me that no 2011 Edge has not started production and would not until late fall at the earliest.

     

    He informed me that I could not even order one yet. I confirmed that he was not talking about the 2011 Explorer and he told me that my source was wrong. I told him it was on the Ford Media site and he said that it was wrong. The last guy I talked to there did not know about the MyFord Touch. He kept telling me that it was only a voice system and Ford would not have a touch screen system on the 2011.

     

    Do I need to find a new dealer to work with or am I crazy. Does anyone have a good dealer within a two hour drive of Omaha to work with? THANKS!

     

    After reading this I couldn’t help but think of my dealer when i originally went in to talk to them about getting a 2011 Edge but that was back in March! I would call around if I were you and find someone else who has information on the 2011 Edges, or is willing to research it for you rather than just tell you that you and Ford are wrong and that you don’t know what you are talking about. My dealer doesn’t seem to be getting the same information that I am considering that I have had my VIN # since the 6th of August and he keeps calling me to say that he hasn’t received any updates. But considering all the information I was able to find out on the forum it didn’t really bother me. Knowing that they are already shipping units I would find a dealer that has some that are in transit and see if it is what you want rather than order it. However if you do order I would look at the forums to find out some good questions to ask your dealer ie. what is your allocation? what priority are you going to give me?(10 is the best) Asking questions like this will give you a really good idea of how fast you will get your order and if they are really open about it and tell you everything then you know you are working with a good dealer that is going to try and help make sure you are happy. Either way good luck and don’t get discouraged just from one dealer.
