  1. AWD. My first. Quebec winters. Long highway commute.
  2. :stats: Oops.... First little problem with my new Edge (SEL AWD Charcoal/Light Sage) 1600km. Nothing major, I think. Low tones from the audio sysytem produce a loud, annoying buzz somewhere in the driver's door. Can't tell where it's coming from exactly. I'll get it looked at during my first service visit. Anyone had anything similar?
  3. Previous car: 2000 Taurus Wagon with 186,000 km on it. I'm over 6 foot, as is my teenage son. My wife and daughter aren't shorties either. Wanted a vehicle that gave good value for the money, was roomy and comfortable on the highway (I commute over 100km/day to work), and was roomy enough for my large kids to be comfortable in the back. Looked at the RAV4, the Mazda CX-7, the Subaru Outback, the Honda CRV. Liked the RAV4 and its reliability record, well equipped at the price. But it lacked personality. My daughter fell in love with the CX-7, but I wasn't taken by the comfort, or the fact that its 4cyl. needed premium fuel. Love the Subaru, but servicing could be an issue as dealers are few and far between. Hated the CRV (personal taste); ugly interior, uncomfortable, poorly equipped at the price. Didn't care much for the Edge's styling when I first saw it, but it slowly grew on me. Sat in it in the dealer: loved the interior, the comfort of the seats and the roomy back seat. Test drove it: smooth, responsive, quiet, comfortable - perfect for the commute and trips with the family. It isn't perfect, though I don't have any major issues with it: I don't mind the headrests or the glare. Overall I'm very satisfied with my SEL AWD (Light Sage, roof rails, charcoal interior). And part of me likes the idea it's built right here in Canada. Open your minds, critics. The Japanese build a great product, but they're not to everyone's taste. Buying a car is a very personal choice, and taste is a big issue. There clearly is a market for a vehicle like this, and I for one am very happy I bought it.
  4. Sorry, everyone, but I'm 6'2", and drive with my seat VERY upright. The headrests don't bother me at all. Sure, maybe I'll have issues wearing my cowboy hat in the winter, but apart from that, no problems. The headrests are not an issue. They're like that for good reason: safety. We'll get used to them, just like we're used to seatbelts. (We are all wearing them, right?)
  5. Ouch! Those things are expensive! $299 Can. for the set. I haven't seen anything better, though. Thanks
  6. Did you order it specifically? It sound like all I need to mount a bike rack.
  7. Ant idea if they are available up here in the Great White North?
  8. The brochure I picked up at the dealer is clear. A Class I trailer hitch receiver is listed as standard equipment on the SE and SEL models (rebadged SEL and SEL+ according to the dealership). The Class II with all the associated mechanical upgrades is an option on both. What have other Canadaian buyers experienced?
  9. Can someone please explain to me which models come equipped withe the standard Class I hitch receiver? I expected my new SEL AWD to have it (as per the brochure), but my dealer wasn't sure. Sure enough, the vehicle doesn't have it. I thinking of going back to the dealer and insisteing they install it, given the ambiguity. This is a Canadian vehicle, mind you. Thanks.
  10. Any suggestions re: really good winter floor mats for my new Edge (SEL AWD)? Preferably available in Canada. I want to protect my new baby as best as possible.
  11. I noticed that the centre brackets at the base of the rear seat in my new SEL AWD are painted metal withe the bolts exposed. Are these supposed to have plastic covers over them? It looks unfinished. Plus I'm concerned about salt/water exposure in the winter.
  12. Took delivery yesterday. Traded in the 2000 Taurus Wagon with 186,000 km on her. The Taurus was a good car, never left me stranded. The last year was expensive, though, with suspension and AC failures. So it was time for a change. Specified a unit built after Jan., 2007 (April). Looks great. Drives smoothly and quietly. Bags of room for my 2 large teens in the rear. Two observations: 1) Even though the rear windows are DARK, it really should have a cargo cover, 2) I was sure that all Edges came standard with a Clas I trailer tow receiver, as per the brochure. Mine didn't. A bit disappointing. Going to start putting some km on it, see how it goes. Hudson, Quebec, Canada
