  1. My door entry IA system where you have the key in your packet and then put hand on door handle and it senses and unlocks the door is suddenly not working... anyone else experienced this!

By the way--love my 2011 Ford Edge...

Is it with both keys? if so it has something to do with the system, if it is only one of the key fobs, then I would try a new battery. and No I have not had any issues.

  2. I found this piece when i took delivery of my Edge. Salesman had no idea but I figured it out when I saw the cup holder pieces with it.

Any thoughts on that hard to get to space? I think it looks cool but kinda useless.

It looks like it's more passenger friendly.

I put my good sunglasses (which are in a case) in there, have also put parking ticket (when at the airport) back there

  3. I took mine 2011 Edge in today because the sync web site said I had an update pending. The site says I have BT4T-14D545-BA but BT4T-14D544-BD is the version I should update to. I got a call after dropping it off telling me that I didn't need an update because I have the latest version. I questioned this and asked if I could talk with the tech. I went in the shop and they ran the update software for me to see. To my surprise, it returned with a different version than the Sync Status checker does. Pretty hard to argue with the tech when there is no version indication on the screen of the MFT and it clearly said the version was BT4T-14D544-BD on their computer screen connected to my Edge.

I checked again when I got home and it still says I have an old version and need the update. Seems there may be an issue with one of the two since they don't match. My MFT issues are relatively minor compared to others so I didn't put up a stink.

Anyone else have this happen or have issues with the sync status checker?

just guessing, but what may have happened is that when your "latest" version was loaded, they did not pass the successful update back to syncmyride site. If you have done an update from Sync there are 3 steps, download the update to thumb drive, load update in car, then come back to sync sight with USB plugged into computer and acknowledge the update was successful, I think when you click the update status button , the usb drive you used passes the status back to sync.

  4. I'm a new (2011) Edge owner as of 10 December 2010, and I've not really been encountering many of the issues I've been reading about in this forum. I do however get a little frustrated from time to time with sluggish response to touch, and with the inability to see my iPhone contact photos. None of these has dampened my overall feelings for my new Edge. However, having been in IT for longer than I care to remember, I am one who likes to always be on the latest update of whatever is out there. (ie ... I'm on Windows 7 with Office 2010 ... etc.) . I've read a little about this Sync 2 update ??? ... Could someone tell me what it is? ... and How I can determine what revision my Edge is running? Thanks in advance for any help.

you can go to syncmyride.com and your vehicle should be registered. When you login and go to the updates link, it will show you what is loaded and the versions. It will also show you any availabe updates that you may need.

  5. I haven't used them yet in the almost 2 months I've owned my 2011 Edge Sport.

I honestly don't know why I'd want to use them, either.

    -steve

well if you are not going to "sport drive" then it may depend more on he terrain where you drive. I don't sport drive but do drive in the mountains and even areas in Colorado where you are climbing hills. I have the limited, but the select shift is very nice when climbing hills and you don't want the fully auto, upshifting and downshifting all the time depending on the grade.

  6. I just got back from a trip to my Dealer. Totally unrelated, but while there I asked the Service Manager about their experience with the update. He asked about what issues I was having. I have been one of the lucky ones and have very few issues and none recently, (sound is me knocking on wood). He said the update has fixed issues for many and created other or new issues for some. His recommendation was NOT to get the update unless I was having serious issues. He felt it best to wait for an update to the update. I know many of you HAVE had serious issues and I suppose for those, doing the update makes sense. Curious if anyone else has had a similar recommendation from their dealer. I was going to wait for a while anyway since my issues are few. Guess I will be waiting longer now.

Only wanted to add that he said it MAY be fine or it MAY create problems I did not have previously.

  7. I live in Long Island NY and on occasion we get hit with a big 12+ storm but id say on average we may get 2-6 Inchs of snow.....

2 other possible factors, first Is resale. Which of the two versions would have better resale, that may make the expense not quite as much in the long run. Second, is that Besides being better in snow, in my opinion it is also better on ice.

  8. Having a hard time getting the remote start to work from more then a hundred feet away. Only had the vehicle for two weeks so I am going to buy new batteries and see if that may be the problem ?

I have no issues with the distance, one poster here says it works in a parking garage at her work from 15 floors above the garage. There are reports in this forum of it working to 300 + feet.

  9. Finally settled on a 2011 Edge AWD Limited with 20" wheels as a gift to the wife after her Chrysler 300C extended warranty ended. This is my first Ford. I loaded up the Edge keeping with the smaller engine in the Limited hoping that fuel economy would be better than the Sport model and I saved a few grand over a similarly equipped MKX. There's a lot going on for the driver, which is TMI or Too Much Information, as my wife puts it. However, after day three she had paired her iPhone herself, preset the radio and has the interior and key/fob settings set to her liking. The rear cargo cover was a joke of a product and we left it with the dealer. The Edge is a big change from a V8 sedan, but I get the feeling that she's happy; especially with the winter weather here in the mid-west I'm hoping that the AWD proves itself over the rear wheel drive of the 300C. The OEM wipers have been replaced with Rain-X Repel Wiper Blades. (I've used Rain-X products for decades)

    Pros:

    •
    • Phone pairing is a snap
    • Cruise control collision detection works
    • No key required, the wife just keeps the fob in her purse
    • Three different ways to control the MyFord system: control screen, steering wheel controls, and voice command
    • Wife is happy so far (so I'm happy)

    Cons:

    •
    • Ford cargo cover is a joke
    • Ford floor mats are over priced (but do lock into place on the drivers side)
    • No wiper area heating element in the glass
    • Touch control is not "instant" like the iPhone or iPad, you need to pause for a second on each screen button. Occasional lag when switching control screens
    • TMI, as the wife puts it. I suspect that a majority of the older generation may be intimidated by all of the computerized controls, e.g. where's the knob?

One last note, I hope that the MyFord control system never fails, it controls almost everything. I'll update after a month or when I reach the first recommended oil change at 3K miles.

Congratulations!! I haev one and absolutely love it. You will find that some folks have had issues, mine are relatively minor and I can live with them until Ford comes out with the fixes, which by the way there is one that is out with varying results. Very happy with the purchase.

  10. Hi everybody, I'm ready to buy the Limited AWD and will be placing an order on Monday. Here are the packages I'll be ordering:

Vision (Blind Spot information system, cross traffic alert, rain sensing wipers)

Driver Entry (Perimeter Alarm, Push Button Start, Power Liftgate, Remote Start)

    Canadian Touring (Vista Roof, Navigation)

I was wondering about the ambient lighting - is this a feature to bother with?

I noticed that the self parking system isn't offered in Canada - I wonder why - maybe our snowbanks are too high!

BTW, this is a great forum with a ton of useful information.

Congratulations!! Had my Limited AWD for about 3 months. Absolutely love it. THe car is one of the most fun to drive I have ever owned. All the gadgets do keep it different. I have everything on it but the rear video and see the value in each. Love the remote start, and all the radar features, Vista Roof or as they call it here the BAMR. In regards to the Ambient Lighting, as I recall it is standard on the Limited and though I don't switch colors very often, love the lighting effect. In terms of self park, unless I missed something, it is not an option. It has the rear backup alert and the rear camera that aids in parking or backing up. But do not believe it will parallel park by itself as some cars do.

  12. Just picked-up my Edge Limited tonight. The salesman synced my BlackBerry Bold 9000. But, it unsynced when I drove off with my new Edge. I figured that I would re-sync it when I got home. I was able to do that. However, I don't know how to upload the address book. My Garmin GPS would upload the address book automatically. Therefore, the phone has that feature on it.

Can anyone show me how to do it or refer me to the page in the manual that refers to uploading the address book?

when I paired my phone the first time it just did it. I have made changes in my address book and noticed that my "phonebook" in the car is up to date each time I go to use it.

  13. .heck if they charge to just install the updates...cost of ownership will continue to rise.

Oh well...live and learn. Cutting "Edge" and version 1.0 - issues can be expected...I work in I.T.

I will fight paying for fix tooth and nail. THey call it a update but I have not heard of any additional functionality, only supposed fixes to bugs. Being in the software industry, we do not charge for TB fixes, only version updates that provide more functionality. Yes, version updates normally include some fixes, but it generally provides more functionality as well. Heck, even Microsoft does not charge for within release updates. ps this is the edited part. I thought there was a technical bulletin issued for this fix, to me that says bug fix.

  14. My car is in the shop today because an update finally came in. Just got an e-mail from them saying:

we are still working on programming your car, we have tried the download from the ford/microsoft server 5 times today and each time the server has crashed mid download- we contacted them and they are having major IT problems and hope to have it resolved by mid day tommorrow-.

Hopefully, it ends up working. They've been great to get me a free rental car every time.

those of us lacking will be anxious to hear how the update performs. For me if there are any "real" issues resulting form it. I will be concerned about rushing into it. Being a beta tester for the 2001 edge is about the limit. I have been lucky so far, things work, yes I see some issues, but nothing that has yet been that important to me. Nothing like black screens and unable to pair phone, etc that others are experiencing.

Let us know how it goes

  15. My sync system connects to my wirelss internet at work but can someone tell me what you can do with it? I mean I dont see a browser...

this is covered in several previous posts, but short answer is at this point nothing other provide hotspot within car for others to connect to internet. I guess there is some value to that in that the other users may not have ability to logon to your work WiFi. Not sure how the IT folks would like that though or if that presents any security issues.

  16. Picking up a silver 08' Limited this weekend. Looks to be in perfect shape but are there any gotchas that I should look for before I sign on the dotted line?

Looks like the tires are about shot so I'll be looking for a nice wide replacement, possibly wheels too. Eibach springs and the 3D Carbon kit are in the future as well, I just have to slip all of that on while the wife isn't looking, "part of the oil change"... :)

nice looking edge, body looks like it is in great shape, hope you get it. I have got them as rentals over the last few years, and that is what inspired me to buy one about a month ago. I love mine. As far what to look for, I guess the standard things you would look at when buying a used car. If it is from a dealer I am sure you are getting some kind of warranty. You may also want to ask the dealer if you can take it to independent mechanic for their appraisal of the car. Good luck. let us know what you do.

  17. I'm the opposite from most as I wanted nothing to do with the Vista Roof. I had a Lexus RX for the past 5 years and I think I opened my shade a hand full of times & maybe opened the roof all the way two or three times. I also wanted the stability/sound quality of a solid roof.

We have a SLK for when the weather is really nice & my wife has a sunroof in her Zephyr. If the MKX was our only vehicle then maybe I'd have a different opinion.

it may depend somewhat on where you live also. Living in Colorado with predominant amounts of Sunshine, I love the vista roof. Living in an area with lots of Vertical scenery it also is a nice touch. Of course it is still a new thing to me also. But I definitely like sunroofs, Vista roof is just a bigger version

  18. My Edge has power folding seats.

Isn't collision alert a part of adaptive cruise control on the Edge?

I believe that is it, Collision Alert uses the same front radar as the adaptive cruise. I got a chance to test that this weekend. I took a 100 mile or so ride in the country and had cruise set and came upon a vehicle going less than I was (I was within speed limit) and it did slow down and maintain the gap, when vehicle turned off it sped back to original setting.

  19. I just got my DayVue film and rushed to install it while the sun was still shining.

I've installed film on all kinds of devices and was happy that this Installation was VERY simple and easy compared to others.

I cleaned my screen, used a piece of packing tape to peel the clear backing off and laid the film in place.

The 174x104 size was perfect. Just enough gap around the edges.

When trying to peel off the pink protective film on the front (I stuck packing tape to the pink film to help in peeling it off), I ended up pulling the DayVue film off my Touch screen. No problem putting it back on, just be careful to hold the film in place while peeling off the protective pink film.

That's it. It took me all of 30 seconds to install.

While I haven't had much time to use it, I have determined that fingerprints are hard to come by, colors are more vibrant, and the glare is decreased quite a bit.

I think everyone will be happy with the results. I am!

Check out my before and after pics

thanks Wilson, I ordered some about 2 days ago, would never have guessed it made that much difference, that makes me feel a lot better. and congrats on the Grand Child, the new Edge and the progress detailing it. Ah Life is Good, and you are getting a bunch of that goodness.

  20. I'm assuming that the dealer did it because it said so on the work order. I guess I could ask the dealer...maybe it's a trade secret? lol

This probably does not help you much, as I have an 11 model, but may for those reading this thread. I have an 11 model with the left and right 4 inch screens to each side of the speedometer. With mine it is done by arrowing left to the menu on the left side, then arrow dow to settings, choose Vehicle, then arrow to oil minder reset. at that point I have the option to reset it to 100%, 80% and so on. So unless they just added the ability for consumer to reset, you must have the option to do that somehow. Sorry I can't speak for the 10 model. BTW, Renting several 2010 models traveling, was the reason i choose to buy the Edge.

  21. In reading the manual, it does say for you to remember to reset oil life indicator when changing oil. SO unless that is stated in error or incompletely (needs to be done by dealer) then it should be there. In several places (Control F) it further states to see instrument cluster section. In the Instrument cluster section I do not see clear notes, but it refers to reset functionality. Will have to look next time in the car.
