  1. German?.....made in Tennessee or Germany? BTW.....Nice looking car. Seems perfect for your use.

I'm not a fan of diesel for a passenger car my wife would drive. Just too smelly, diesel on ground around many pumps. Find a clean one and use gloves.

Eco Boost has most of the advantages of diesel at a cheaper cost in manufacturing and fuel. Turbo charging and direct injection. Have often do you fill the urea tank on the VW diesel?

It is assembled in Tennessee but the powertrain and engineering are from Germany and you can tell the difference. Diesel too smelly?!? You sound like a 5 year old girl. Woudnt want you to mess up your manicure. :hysterical2: Ecoboost was not available in 2011 and still no where near the economy. Urea tank gets topped off every 10k miles but it is covered under the VW maintenance.

  2. We filled up the tank with 15 gallons of diesel, drove around town, then drove from orange county to vegas, then around vegas, then back to orange county. This was the status when we got home. 567 miles driven and 155 miles left in the tank. This was while driving over 80mph to and from vegas since we went on Sunday and came home on Tuesday. There wasn't any traffic. The TDI has incredible torque and power as well as out of sight fuel economy. The edge is a great car but it was just not for us in the current stage of my wifes taxi service. I on the other hand will be giving my Tacoma to my son next year and I anticipate picking up a GT500 at that time.

  3. I would guess with short trips back and forth to schools the Sport had no opportunity to warm up? I drive a mixed city and highway route 13 miles each way to work and average mid 22's. Im pretty happy with that. On 3.5 hour highway journeys to our farm in NY Ive seen as high as mid 25's. Not bad considering that the stated highway average is 23.

Good luck with your new car, she's a beauty for sure especially with those wheels! Do you mind telling what CarMax offered you on the Sport and how many miles you had? I've always wondered about them.

The edge had about 26k miles on it and was getting close to needing new tires. They gave me 30k.

  4. We had a pretty good experience with the Edge. It was a beautiful car. The MFT was finicky at times and the navigation system was horrible. The sony stereo was decent. There was an exhaust rattle and certain frequencies that bugged me and the bumpers coloring did not completely match the rest of the car. The one thing that drove us to getting rid of the car was the mileage. My wife mostly drove around town taking one child to middle school and the other to high school and then back and forth for soccer, lacrosse, and basketball practices and church youth groups, etc. Around town the edge sucks the fuel, probably between 12 and 15 mpg and the tank is so small that my wife was getting fuel every three days. We had a hard time finding a replacement similar bells and whistles and around town fuel economy that we needed. The new fusion hybrid that is coming out was somewhat promising but it lacks the features of the edge sport and the battery makes the trunk too small for all of our gear. We decided finally on a 2013 Passat TDI SEL. The car is beautiful and the driving experience of a German engineered car is second to none. The car has a range of 700-800 miles per tank of diesel. We should get about 40 MPG around town and below is a picture of the MPG on my 25 mile commute to work this morning. The torque and power of this car is amazing as well.

  5. I just downloaded and installed iOS 4.3 on my iPhone and found it's got new MyFordTouch capabilities. Instead of just allowing pause, play and skip when playing Bluetooth streaming audio, I'm now able to fast forward and reverse through the audio too - a definite plus.

I haven't had a chance to try SMS to voice yet, but a guy can be hopeful, right?

I just downloaded 4.3 last night. I will test out the capabilities today.

  6. After I ordered my Edge Limited I sat in an MKX and I was pleasantly surprised. I'll put my 2c pros and 2c cons in here:

-I like the MKX grille quite a bit more than Edge's

-I really dig the heated steering wheel with wood, although I do not like the wood trim in general.

    -Significant better leather seats.

    -Very nice leather dashboard

    -Nicer taillights

-Decent 20" rims without chrome - I find the 20''s from the Edge horrible - that's why I ordered 18"

-Very nice aluminum trim especially the bronze one.

However and although the upgrade would have cost me only 5-6k at the time in Canada:

-I don't consider the engine upgrade significant enough. Why they did not put the Ecoboost V6, even slightly detuned in Sport and MKX is beyond me. (maybe too expensive?)

-I consider the Sony piano black center stack in the Limited more upscale than the one in MKX which is just slightly better than in Edge SEL

-The hatch door alignment tolerances are way off for a luxury brand...worse than a Hyundai Sonata and this for 80% of a dozen MKX I looked at.

-The Lincolns are sold in the same dealership as Ford and I've been in a several luxury dealerships - it's a totally different vibe.

-I expected the Auto Park feature from the MKT to be present in the '11 MKX too

-Overall I would buy a Q5 over a MKX for the same money - call me a snob but I consider the brand cachet way higher for an Audi plus I consider it a better exterior design

Audi Q5 is a POS that blows through trannys every 30k miles. Check with any Audi service tech.

  7. I did not realize that Homelink was not available on the Sport. Just another reason to get a Limited, IMHO.

I got a Limited because: 1) 22s just a little too big - and profile too small; 2) no HIDs; 3) black interior only color available; 4) oval exhaust tips - just do not like; 5) lower body molding - a bit overkill; 6) last vehicle had sport suspension, was ready for quieter, smoother ride; 7) incremental hp from 3.5L to 3.7L not worth the price.

I would love to have the paddle shifters, though. And I would rather have the black beltline trim instead of chrome. I took care of the front chrome. I like my Limited.

But hey! People get different rides for different reasons. That's why they make so many.

Yep, I got the sport for all the opposite reasons. 22's are kick ass wheels and the ride was nearly unchanged. HID's can be added fairly cheap. Only wanted black interior. Oval true dual exhaust is awesome. Lower body molding makes this ride set apart from all the other Edges. 3.7 may not be a big HP difference on paper but the combination of HP and Torque differences are definitely noticeable. Price Tag was identical when equipped with the same options (actually the limited was a few bucks more) and I didn't care for the wood trim. :shift:
