  1. I had a system maintenance screen today. first time in forever. Wish everyone had a system as stable as mine. Fingers still crossed for the new update to be wonderful.

I too have a very stable system and hope that the update is better. Recently had to remove the battery cable to force a reboot to get the voice back on the navigation. But other than that, I rarely have an issue. Maybe because we both have the bordeaux red reserve color? Just kidding. But I'm disappointed that they did not continue that color. I like it a lot. The update looks promising, I've watched the youtube videos. I'm almost afraid to do the update....but I want the new features. Perhaps I'll wait to see the forum member's responses to the update.

  2. It is suspicious that some people have never had an issue.

    Is there a supply issue?

Do some units not meet specs?

Did Ford except them by mistake?

Wilson, I agree that just doesn't add up.

It is strange that many, many people have had problems while I have not. Where were the MFT hardware and software systems manufactured? All in the same location? Overseas? Perhaps their is a quality control issue? Bring the manufacturing back to Michigan:) and there won't be any problems. (Sorry, couldn't resist a plug for my home state)

Akirby, (at least I think that is your screen name) you should know where these systems are manufactured/assembled. Or could find out? Perhaps it is a supply issue. Maybe my system was one of the very first manufactured. I did purchase my Edge in October of 2010.

  3. 1.8 and hardly any issues? How is that even possible? I really wonder if there are uunderlying hardware issues. Why else would some have seemingly OK systems on the same software where others have units that can barely keep from rebooting daily?

As a side note...can you comment on your GPS position accuracy? Ours is regularly off byat least 50 feet most times it is 100-150' so in busy areas it can be difficult to be sure of the exit/road. I never had issues like this with TomTom's or Garmins. While I didn't expect this nav to be as customizable I did expect it to be accurate. Also have you seen that directions given vary based on direction of travel? Meaning that going to the destination it routes you differently than the return trip?

I don't know how it's possible, but it is. When I have had minor problems with it, I've either shut the car off or let the system reboot on its own. I didn't try to force anything. We're talking Microsoft here after all. While I use all Microsoft products (windows, office, etc.) I'm not exactly impressed with their reliability. Vista anyone?

Maybe because I have one of the earliest versions and haven't messed with it is the reason my system is ok. I don't know. I just know that I'm a real person who likes her edge and likes the MFT. It doesn't work perfectly, but I don't know of too many tech things that do.

You can see from my prior posts that I haven't been here for a while, mostly due to the fact that I've been happy with the performance (well the gas mileage could be better) of my Edge. I was going to take my Edge in to the dealer for a MFT update but they suggested that I wait until after the first of the year when the new version is released.

Personally, the fact that my car's control interface can be changed/updated is pretty cool. I like taking advantage of new technology. I'm curious, now that the NTSB has issued advice that NO cellphones (except for built in systems?) be used while driving will the MFT system be embraced or outlawed by lawmakers?

As for my navigation, it appears to be quite accurate. Tells me to turn exactly at the intersection. I don't notice it to be off at all. I have had two occasions where the GPS screwed up. But considering that I use it on average three days a week to take me different places (in Michigan and Ohio) I'm quite satisfied. I'd like to see an update to the navigation...will we receive new SD cards for it?

My return trips always seem to take me the way I originally went. I do have the breadcrumbs turned on.

  4. You may still get an apology and a comp of some sort when you get the new update in the mail.

But until then - how is Ford supposed to know that you're an unhappy customer unless you tell them? Remember we have several Edge MFT owners who are either happy or at least not too upset about their MFT experiences so how is Ford supposed to know the difference?

I'm one of those who really have had no problems to speak of . Well until recently. The voice directions stopped working on the navigation so I disconnected then reconnected the battery and everything works ok now. I didn't even have to pair my phone again. I have 24k miles on my edge that I bought 14 months ago. I use the MFT extensively because I drive so much. I have my blackberry paired, use the phone features, have an ipod connected via usb, and the navigation system. I use the navigation system almost every day for work because I go to many different locations. I send locations to my car from google maps and then call "services" and it downloads the location and sets it as my destination. I've searched for places to eat, car washes, starbucks and more.

I've had perhaps two instances of the system rebooting all on its own. I have not visited my dealer at all since I bought it. Only thing I've done to it is change the oil and rotate the tires. That being said, I am looking forward to the update to add additional functionality. I am glad that Ford is fixing the problem for the many of you who have had problems. I'm just curious of all the MFT cars sold so far, what percentage are having problems? It's obviously many, but 50%? 75%? 95%?

I consider myself lucky to have not had any major issues and am a very satisfied Edge owner. I love my car.

    I'm running sync version 1.8.

  5. I'm like carrie above. Have had my edge since early last october and love it. I currently have 15600 miles on it. (I drive a lot for work) I have not updated anything in it, matter of fact, haven't done anything, not even an oil change yet. System says I still have 20% oil life left.

I use the NAV all the time to find client locations, I use google maps to send it to my car, hop in, connect to services and viola, my destination is downloaded. I use the system to find places to eat, car washes, even shopping areas.

The touch system will occassionally reboot itself, but no worse than the average computer. The voice activated system isn't perfect. I admit I once tried to tell it to f*** off, it responded it did not understand:)

Once in a while when in reverse, the backup camera doesn't come on. Again, not a really big deal to me, unless it begins to happen all the time.

I love the way the car drives, the way it looks, how comfortable it is. Only minor complaint is that the headrests are not good if I have a ponytail in my hair, because then my ponytail rubs too much on the headrest.

I would buy again. The software can be fixed and I'm sure that it will be.

  6. You can buy it until the bumper to bumper warranty runs out. But for you that's not 2.5 years - it's just over 1 year because of the 36,000 mile warranty mileage limit - you'll hit that way before you hit the 3 year time limit.

If you're doing a lot of highway miles those are really easy on the vehicle. Your odds of having a problem during the extended warranty period is greatly reduced.

So are you suggesting I forego the extended warranty? Most of my mileage will be highway. I'm just worried that if the touch system fails and needs repairs that I could spend a lot of money fixing it. So far, I've been one of the lucky ones with no problems (other than one or two reboots) with the myford touch system.

  7. When is the best time to buy an extended warranty? My 2011 edge that I bought last October already has 10k miles on it, I expect to put 25k miles a year on it. I would like to have a warranty cover me to 125k miles. I still have 2 and a half years on the factory warranty. Do I wait until I'm almost out of that warranty to purchase another one? Seems like I would not want to pay for one now...

I've never bought an extended warranty before, but with all the technology and miles for work that I expect to put on it, an extended warranty is probably my best bet. Not to mention that I financed the thing for five years, so along with car payments, I would hate to have expensive repairs also.

  8. I have a 2011 Edge Limited in Bordeau Red with Sienna two tone seating, 48K with all the options

Love the colours, I made a great choice not having seen it before buying

On the other hand MFT is terrible, this is truely a wonderful car but spolied with this very poorly designed feature

My advice is wait for 2012 when they'll go back to switches, buttons or knobs

Where have you heard that they are going back to switches, buttons, & knobs?

If that is the case, I'm glad I got a 2011

Personally, I love the MFT and have not had any problems.

  9. You are a brave one - jumping for this update so quick.. :)

I am still holding off. I still have not had to pull the fuse ever and only maybe 2 reboots since September when I got it. I am good. Keep us posted.

I too am holding off on any dealer update. Mine is working just fine so I would hate to mess it up. I'll only update when they add additional functions to it.

  10. Have a 2011 SEL and seems like there's an awful lot of vibration in the front passenger side seatback while on the highway. Sometimes it will make a noise, sometimes not. I should probably just get an old lady but thinking its much cheaper to just come up with a fix.

    Anyone else notice this?

Actually, I too have noticed this.

I have also have a 2011 SEL, with leather seats.

I too notice it most at highway speads. It's almost like an invisible annoying little kid is kicking the seatback.

The vibration is strange, but not really enough to bother me. Seems like the passenger seatback shouldn't move at all though.

  11. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this or not. According the owner's manual the heated seats should automatically time out and turn off after 15 minutes. I turned mine on this morning in the driveway and as a test I didn't manually turn them back off, they were still on when I pulled into work 51 minutes later. I know some like heaters that don't turn off (my wife's Honda is a toggle switch that doesn't time out and she likes that), I actually kind of like them shutting down automatically. Especially since we didn't get a physical button for them and potentially have to cycle through the menus to get to the button to shut it off.

Mine do not shut off after 15 minutes either, like the manual says. I have a 2011 SEL AWD with the leather seats.

  12. I've had my 2011 edge since last October and have not had any problems with the my ford touch. It rebooted itself once, but that's been it. I have not had my dealer install any updates. I have my blackberry connected via bluetooth, keep my ipod connected via usb. All systems work great including the navigation system, which I absolutely love because I drive a lot for my job.

  13. Occassionaly while driving my 2011 awd edge, I get a grinding noise and feel from the brake pedal. This only happens when sliding a bit on snow covered roads. There are a lot of gravel roads near me, so they are snow covered at this time of the year.

Is this normal? My prior vehicle, a 4x4 dodge durango, had anti lock brakes, but I would get a pulsing sensation from them, not a strange grinding feel.

Everything seems normal on my edge. No warning lights. Traction system and awd are both on.

  14. I spent the day stranded up in Kennebunkport Maine with my sexy brand new 2011 Ford Edge AWD, loaded up with every gee whiz gadget known to man. With only 2000 miles on this beautiful black rental, I was ready to enjoy Ford's new technology.

Sadly it was totally unable to ascend a 40 foot hill with a 11% grade and about one inch of snow. The traction control turned off all power to the wheels after about 30 feet. A completely useless vehicle. There is no switch to turn off the traction control.

I don't pay much attention to a first time post that is a complaint.

  15. Sun rise today was 9:49 am and sunset is at 4:34 - if it was clear, which it isn't. But we are gaining like 3 minutes of light a day. Woo hoo!

    I'm like Carrie,

I also have not had any problems with my edge. I have not had any reason to visit the dealer since I bought it. I have not had any problems with myford touch and I have not had the dealer do any updates to it.

Love the way the awd handles in the snow. I really love this car. I've put about 4100 miles on it since I bought it in October. I too would recommend this car to anyone looking for a good quality crossover vehicle.

  16. Is the gear shifter supposed to indicate via a light which gear you are in? I'm talking about the actual shifter on the center stack/console area. You know how in the instrument cluster the gear you are in glows red? Why doesn't it do that on the actual shifter? All of the gears light up when it is dark out, but no change in color.

I've sometimes shifted into manual instead of drive and didn't notice until I either saw it in the instrument cluster or when the engine didn't automatically shift....

Seems like such a little thing that should be there...

  17. I’ve been coming here for quite some time now doing research. My wife would like to buy an Edge. Every time I come back and read all the problems on here. We keep putting off shopping for one scared that the quality of the edge is just not up to the Japanese standers. We hope to see fewer problems posted in the 2011 section so we might get some inspiration to go look at a ford.

I have a 2011 edge and am very impressed and pleased with it. Even after the myford touch system crashed today. (i simply shut my car off and then restarted it then everything was fine) For all the complaints on this forum about the 2011 edge I would guess that 99% of them have something to do with the myford touch system and not the quality, ride, or handling of the vehicle itself.

I agree that the myford touch system needs an update. But remember, this is a software system problem.

How many people out there own a PC rather than a MAC? Microsoft windows is notorious for having problems, yet I would bet my new ford edge that the majority of the people on this forum use a PC. Would you not buy say,a dell, simply because windows was crashing and needed an update?

It sounds to me that you would not be happy with any vehicle that might have potential problems. You could find hundreds of people out there who are not happy with their new vehicle purchase, whether it be a Ford, GM, Toyota, Saab, BMW.....especially on internet forums.

  18. Some of my favorite things about my 2011 Edge are:

    1. Quiet smooth ride. My boss says it rides better than his Lexus.

    2. Blind spot mirrors...the little mirror inside the larger one. Should be mandatory on all new vehicles.

    3. Capless fuel system. No more messing with dirty smelly fuel caps.

    4. Contrast stitching on the leather seats. Nice quality touch Ford!

    5. The fact that I live in SE Michigan and can be proud, even boastful, about my Ford Edge.

Please add to my list if you wish.

  19. Hey Choff, don't leave. We'll all miss your positive attitude and genuine excitement for your ride. A lot of us feel the same way about ours, but we just aren't as good at writing about it.

There are a few people here with legitimate issues, but I'm also getting tired of them spamming each and every thread with yet another version of thier complaint every time someone leaves a comment. We get it: Your Sync isn't working, or won't stream your crappy music from your new phone. Get over it. Any feelings of empathy from the rest of us was lost after your third post.

Aside from all the whiners, I've learned a lot from this forum. Here are some highlights:

    - I learned how to correctly set the set the seat & steering wheel to match my fob.

    - I've learned that the cargo cover is junk, so instead of spending $125 on one I bought a black fleece throw blanket from Target for $13.

    - I've learned all about how a noob can to properly detail a new car (Thanks Canuck!), and now my Tuxedo Black paint looks really awesome.

    - I've learned where to get a nice trailer hitch cover (eTrailer), and where to get a really good screen protector (NuShield).

    - I've learned all about Fuse 29, and hope I never have to pull it.

There is more, but this is what I remember off the top of my head.

So please stay on and please keep posting. We are all looking forward to hearing your experiences with the extreme cold and snow. I'm hoping that people like you, Canuck, Akirby and BlueEdge don't get frustrated and leave, because it's people like you that give the rest of us a reason to come back.

    Ditto!!

  20. Good morning everybody!

i'm new in this forum and new with a Ford Edge..

Nice to meet all of you!

good morning to you too! I have a 2011 SEL AWD and absolutely love it! Tell us more about your vehicle. What options do you have? What color is it? What do you think about the myford touch system?

  21. Wow - have to visit the dealership for this?!

That is going to get VERY OLD quickly. Seriously what's wrong with USB and/or an OTA upgrade?

    Yeah,

Why do I have to go to the dealer for this if it is a software update? I simply don't have the time to wait around the dealership for hours nor do I want to leave my vehicle with them.

Someone please, please post here what the updated software does for your vehicle. I would like more information before I contact my dealer.

  22. paired my blackberry bold via bluetooth.

I've owned my 2011 SEL for over two months now. Have put about 2600 miles on it. I have not had any problems with the touch system. No white screens of death, no automatic rebooting, none of the problems reported here.

I've been driving my edge for two months with everything working, including my ipod touch connected via usb. Well today, I finally, finally got my employer to allow me to use bluetooth on my blackberry (security reasons, corporate red tape) I successfully paired my blackberry bold to sync and tested the system by calling my house as I was sitting in my driveway. Worked perfectly!

A couple of hours later, I hop in my car to head to the gym, start it up and.......the blue oval remained on the screen much longer than it should have. I shut the car off and restarted it. Got first the white screen, then a black blank screen, then finally the system rebooted itself. This whole process took maybe three or four minutes. Things worked ok after that but I wonder what will happen in the future.

The bottom line is, I had no problems whats so ever with the system until I paired my blackberry via bluetooth to the sync system. Seems to me that this is where the bug is for a lot of the problems reported in this forum.
