  1. Hello to all, I stumbled across this post because I had noticed a LOT of water dripping from the bottom of my wife 2010 Edge doors after raining during the night. I am an Expert in Classic Muscle car Restoration and I have numerous complete restorations under my belt. I would like to point out that the Doors, Fenders and Quarter Panels all have water running behind them. They all have their own kind of "Weep Hole" that lets the water to run out. You DEFINITELY don't want to seal these weep holes up with anything. Especially Silicone which promotes rust on automobiles. Water does NOT run up wards and it needs a place to flow. As far as the rust, and it is definitely rust, go buy some rust inhibitor treatment and clean it up and apply it.

I will be pulling my door panels off and doing my own investigating soon. I'll keep y'all posted if interested.

Thx for your post, I have 33 years experience as a truck and RV Technician. My vehicle is a 2011 and the area in question are NOT drains or "weep" holes. They are simple folds in the sheet metal on the leading edge of the inner door skin. As I stated, this area is completely exposed to outside water sources because it is UNDER the door's seal system and therfore water collects in that little crevice and rust develops there. Maybe the 2010 door construction is different, And I wish you luck in solving your problem. My solution works and I highly recommend sealing the area if you have a 2011 sport model....

Edit Carefully look at the pictures I posted, see those small neat SQUARE holes at the door bottoms?? THOSE are your weep/drain holes!

  2. Love it so far, I made some improvements, see my sig.... the only problem I had was the nav system cut out once, I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and it's been fine ever since. I think the cars have so many computers and electronics, it's probably a Good idea to re boot your car a couple times a year, oh and I did not loose my stations or seat memory either, which I expected, but didn't happen. I have 2.4 ver BTW... I get a lot of looks and compliments in this vehicle! Bought it on new years eve....

  3. I had a mirror custom cut to fit the three bars which I removed from the grille. Ultra smooth, no pitting and you cannot get a better reflection. It looks very clean and bold. I think colored keyed grilles look cheesy unless it is a matte finish which looks much more sophisticated and clean.

Maybe I don't understand what you posted, but wouldn't that produce possible blinding reflections to other drivers'???

  4. Got my first free oil change.... I will be doing my own from here on out............................ I hate dealers Anyways, the reason I,m updating this thread is, I dis-connected the battery to re boot everything and guess what?? Nav works again! Plan on doing my own updates from now on as well...:happy feet:

  5. I notice too that little lip on the front edge of the front door tends to collect water. That is definitely a design flaw. if it's not address soon we would definitely be seeing rusted out doors in a few years. I believe your solution of filling that lip with silicone to prevent water from pooling in that area should work as long as it is not another drain hole for the door.

It is definitely not some sort of drain... just the bottom edge sheet metal foled cver in the corner. That area is not protected from the elements, so water will collect in that small space, therefore cause rusting, I advise all owners to clean then seal that little open corner with silicone, I went one step further and added a seal to dress up the area, here are some pics...

seals added to underside of doors, completely seals sill area when door is closed, can't see seal unless you get down there and look. They are inset about 3/8 of an inch...stays so much cleaner down there!!

Sorry crappy photos, think I'm buying a Nikon SLR tonight!!!

  6. I am interested in seeing what you did as I just noticed what appears to be some rust in my passenger rear door. I had it undercoated, but it either ran out on top of the undercoating or it is mixed with the undercoating. I am going to check it out better this weekend. Where did you put the silicone to prevent this and where is it coming from? Thanks

    Dave

As I posted, that area is not sealed or protected from the elements,ie driving in the rain or washing etc... You'll see when I can get some pics up

  7. Ok first off, the front vertical lights are not DRLS and I don't think they are even led, more like little neon lights. IMO.. they are not bright enough for DRLS I'm going to install some 7k 5 led strips in the lower grill like on my G37S check these out, they are mercedes bright...

  8. Well, collected my 150.00 for participating... All the engineers were very interested in my ideas for improvements,... I discussed, Hid lighting,,led running lights, crappy interior door sill finish, rust spots, bubble in driver's seat bottom, no home link in sport, center console storage organizer, glare off interior vent bezel distracting on viewing of side mirrors..accidental hazard switch operation, and general delay in informant screen

    commands... Did I forget something???
