Had an appointment today at my dealership to apply the TSB and get my synch updated. Just got a call from them that they apparently don't have the correct cable to apply the TSB. Ugh.

 

Oh well, it's not the end of the world.

FYI the cable they need is a simple USB cable they can pick up just about anyplace. Check back on Page 3 or so. I posted the TSB and its requirements.

The upside is that my dealer said they will have the new APIM in tomorrow morning and have me back in my car tomorrow evening..

Went to get in my car last night and the touch screen is dead. Won't power on and the radio and all sync features are down with it. Dealer stuck me a focus while the order a new APIM. I am starting to get a bit upset.

Just buy a cheap 500GB USB drive from Best Buy (under 70 bucks) but ensure its the smaller powered by USB ones not a desktop drive. If I spend a bit more time in the car I'm going to dig around to find the Sync unit and see if its got the spare USB port in it like the older cars do (even though we already have two ports would be good to leave them alone). If its above the glovebox then I'll leave the drive in there and cable to it - the only thing I found above my glovebox was the passive entry system however it could be the full ECU including the entry system - I still need to figure that out.

You can use a USB hub with sync to give you more USB connections. Can typically pick up a 4 port hub for about 20 bucks or less.

Things shouldn't have to always be idiot proofed. There should be less idiots.

Hell its not even about being an idiot. Even an idiot can follow directions. What kills me about the whole thing is lying to customers. I have an appt today with my local dealer so they can install a new door seal on my 2011 edge. While there I am going to take the time to talk to the GM of dealership and let him know why he has lost me as a customer. The rest of you with problems I suggest you do the same thing.

While these issues won't keep me from buying another ford they will keep me from buying at the dealer I originally purchased from. The sales department was pretty good but you only end up dealing with the sales department for a few days. If the service department sucks let the GM know it sucks and move on.

The dealers make the real money from service and used car sales.

Figure that all of you with the MKX or Edge would like to have a copy of this. Its the TSB for the myford / mylincoln sync system. The special USB cable they talk about is just a simple mini usb cable. According to ford corp this cable should have been mailed out 2 weeks ago to all dealers, but any tech that has taken the sync training class was issued one when they took the class. The software update is available on the ford tech service website. Don't let them BS you. My dealer tried to BS me and I ended up going to another dealer.
