  1. My Edge SEL AWD was built at the end of May 2010. I was kind of expecting the PTU problem after I came to this forum. And I tried to be gentle on the gas pedal to avoid in the AWD mode for a long time. But so far the PTU is fine (knock the wood). Although I live in cold Canada, it has been under 0'c since 2 months ago; and it was under -20 for the past one week. I wish Ford has fixed the PTU problem since 2010.
  2. You are lucky. My EDGE SEL AWD has much worse MPG than yours. The computer tells a good number, by my own calculation is much worse.
  3. Statistically speaking, you are right. Most people paid the extended warranty for nothing. But I don't agree that one will always win for not buying the extended warranty in 10-20 years. Because normal people only own a few cars in a long run, and it is still a small sample size in statistics. Your theory only apply for a huge amount of cars and in a long run. It doesn't apply for a small size of a sample.
  4. Just try to figure out why some owners have the PTU problem, and others don't. For those owners who had PTU problem, did your Edge work in 4WD mode for a long time? Or in other words, did you drive in bad road condition for a long time, did you have heavy foot on the gas? I just heard some explanation for the AWD system from a mechanical engineer who works for a auto maker (not ford). He said most AWD's center lock is not mechanical lock, and the torque transferred through PTU will cause heat. Working in the 4WD mode for a long will eventually cause over-heating, and damage the seal of the PTU. Most PTU has this potential problem. The only solution is not to force the car in the 4WD mode for a long time, so PTU can cool down. Sounds make sense to me.
  5. "I am red-green color blind and the color coding is a major challenge for me". Can one get a driver license if he/she is red-green color blind?
  6. 1 - the gas pump calibration may be off. That is too bad as I pay according to the gas pump indication. 2 - you never get exactly the same amount of fuel in the tank each time I don't it would affect my calculation much, please refer to my method in the following. 3 - there was an error in your calculation somewhere My calculation method: I filled up the tank after I bought the car, and reset the trip meter. Then I recorded how much gas I put until yesterday I filled up the tank again. Then I divided the gas volume with the trip meter reading. The only problem could be is that "get exactly the same amount of fuel in the tank each time". But only the last time fillup could be affected, and it should be minor difference. So I still cannot explain the 15% off.
  7. Do you guys find the same problem that the Edge MPG indicator is higher than the actual MPG? My car is Ford SEL AWD 2010. And I bought it 3 weeks ago. Right after I got the car, I filled up the tank and reset the MPG indicator. Yesterday I filled up the second tank. The car indicator shows the average MPG is 10.9L/100km. While my own calculation is 12.5L/100km. Why is there such a big difference?
  8. could you provide more info on how to order a car from the US? And is the warranty valid in Canada? I can see there is a big price difference for Ford edge between the US and Canada. It is unfair that Canadians have to pay much more for the same car. Maybe it is worth it to get a car from the US since it is only one hour drive to the US border.
  9. Where are you? This is a very good deal, you got $5000 off the sticker price. I tried the Ford dealer in Canada, and they only give me $500 discount.
