  1. Where were your grounds? Did you go straight to the battery or did you drill anywhere?

I used the two existing grounding posts. One is near the battery ( just go the right). The other was near the front left of the engine compartment. I had to extend the ground wires to reach the grounding posts.

  2. Where did you mount the ballasts and relay?

That was the hardest part of the whole installation..deciding where to mount. I promised myself that I would not drill into any part of the vehicle (except the headlamp dust covers), thus my mounting probably isn't the best but I can remove the system if I ever need to very easily. I mounted the passenger side ballast just to the side of the headlight fixture (mounted vertically against the front of the truck)..its mounted with two sided tape with the mounting bracket removed. The other ballast I used one ot the screws from the air cleaner duct and mounted it horizantally..its not the best installation but doesn't look that bad. The relay and capactor are mounted using two sided tape along the fender wall right in front of the fuse box..i wire-tied everything together to clean it up.

  3. What color did you go with? Any pics?

Im not sure if I should go with 5000k or 6000k.

I purchased the 55w, 6000K setup from Todd at Retrosolutions and installed them this past weekend. I am very happy with the lighting. What an incredible difference from the stock lighting. I had an issue with the capacitor and contact Todd, who immediately put a new one in the mail for me. Waiting for it now..in the meantime I am able to temporarily run the system without it (no DRL's)..love the lighting.

  4. I tried to call, wasn't listed as an option, and their website is jacked, won't let me add our new vehicle... nice eh? Anyone know which build days this recall applies to?

I called my dealer this morning as I am suppoed to pick up my new edge this afternoon (YAH ME!!) to check if my Edge was part of the recall. He told me after some research, it appears that 71 edges made during the period of October 25th through the first week of Nov (I can't remember the exact date in Nov) are affected by the recall.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Greetings,

So I ordered a 2011 Ford Edge SEL from the factory. It should get here in about 2 months, and after a short break-in period I'd like to put in HIDs.

I have some questions, some of which I do not find answers to in other threads so I figure I'd just re-ask everything here.

    1 - Lenses

A friend said that I would probably want a lense for it (I "imagine" the clear plastic housing). He said it scattered the light less.

Where can I find them? Or do I need to go to a jumkyard and try to salvage a "Limited" version that had it installed from the factory.

If I don't get one, how bad is the scatter?

I ask because my last car had them as a factory option and they looked nice and crisp.

I also ordered a 2011 Edge SEL. I'm waiting to recieve it but did order the 55w, 6000K Kit from Todd at Retrosolutions. Todd was very helpful with the ordering process and I have read many good things in regards to their support. Retrosolutions website is still valid..the correct address is www.retro-solutions.com You can also PM him on this board and there is a member discount through here.

I can't wait to acutally get the vehicle and install them. I'm a little concerned redy some of the comments about light scattering but I think they will do a great job in the Edge. I'd also be curious as to where everyone is mount the ballasts.

    2 - Which kits?

I go to HIDGEEKS but their guide on sylvania doesn't have the 2011 Ford Edge (only 2010). I know a bunch of stuff got changed around with the 11's so I don't want to trust the 2010 info.

Which parts do I need? I'm hearing 9006 and 9012 being thrown around on the threads, which one do I need. Preferably, the one that "fits in the best" as I'd rather not have to cut/trim plastic.

    3 - Slim Ballast?

I don't mind the extra $20. Do I get anything useful out of it (like easier install)? Or will the fact that it's slim mean it will "rattle around" inside the casings. One site I read mentioned that they have lower failure rates, but I don't know if that's just bunk.

    Again, I don't care about the $20.

4 - Best place to order them?

    I see hidgeeks.com mentioned a bunch.

I also see retrosolutions.com mentioned, but it seems like retro is no more (just a portal linking to other sites, and it's for sale).

I want quality, so I don't mind spending a little extra.

Any other info would be appreciated.

  6. My wife and I just traded in our 2009 V6 Accord coupe for a 2011 Edge SEL with almost all the trimmings. Unlike my current modded Tundra I'm not allowed to do much to this vehicle. Looking foward to see what guys are doing to theirs. She wants HID's so I'm already view that thread.

Ordered my 2011 SEL two weeks ago and can't wait to get it. In the meantime I just received a set of 55w 6000K HID's from Retrosolutions to install on it. Todd at Retrosolutions has been great to deal with and the price was very reasonable. Can't wait to get the Edge and install them

  7. You should have done some more reading. There are a lot of negative things people are finding out about the 2011 Edges. Check it out here http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/forum/6-audio-navigation-%26-sync/

I may be wrong here, but it appears that almost all of the negative comments on the EDGE revolve around the MyFordTouch system. I haven't seen anything else that people are complaining about as I have searched throughout the board. I also haven't seen many responses from people who have had there software updated with the latest software over the past few days, so I am curious as to how this update helps alleviate some of the issues.

As for myself, I am waiting for my SEL to be built..can't wait to receive it. I can deal with myfordtouch issues right now as I know Ford needs to keep updating this as they introduce the system into more and more vehicles.

  8. Hi everyone. Western NY here. Just ordered my Bordeaux Reserve 2011 SEL AWD with the 202A package, along with the Voice activated Nav and trailer package. I was a little scared after driving the Limited on the dealer lot and seeing the "white" screen of death on the 8" display as describe by many here on the forums but I couldn't argue with $300 under invoice along with the $1,500 rebate. Since Ford is insyalling the myTouch in many of the newer upcoming vehicles including the Explorer and Focus, they will definitely have to address the software issue.

What has the average build time been for everyone here?
