  1. Hi Kontra. :D Since you do not mention it being looked at by the Dealer a year ago (or more recently), is it safe to assume you never brought your Edge in an attempt to have the original problem diagnosed and repaired (before the windshield actually cracked)? If that is the case, it's a shame.

There is no reason to have to "deal with" a problem concerning our vehicles. That is why we have a Bumper to Bumper Warranty (3 years/36,000 miles). You paid good money for your vehicle, and the Warranty is included in that price. No reason not to take advantage of it.

Here is what I would recommend at this point: Was it a Ford Dealer that did the windshield replacement or an aftermarket vendor? If it was a Ford owned Dealership, return to the Dealership and demonstrate the "crackle" sound to them. Do not mention that you had the "crackle" problem before the windshield was replaced (unless you had already told them previously, then do not lie if they ask), just let them diagnose and repair the problem now.

If it was an aftermarket vendor that replaced the windshield, and they say the problem is not caused by the new windshield installation, get them to put the reason the noises are occurring in writing, then go back to your Ford Dealership and have them diagnose and repair the problem under Warranty. Again, if you did not already do so, do not mention that you already had a "crackle" noise problem before the repair.

You actually should have done that a year ago when you first noticed the sound, but let's try and get it taken care of now under Warranty.

Let us know how you make out and good luck. :beerchug:

Thanks for the info. I did have it replaced by my ford dealer under warranty (the wiper blade fell apart and scratched up the glass) and I hadn't mentioned the issue earlier, so I should be in good shape. I didn't mention the sound to Ford earlier because it was one of those things that didn't happen all the time. I didn't want to get there and look like a winer. Now that the sound is obvious and consistent, I think it will be easy to make the case. I've heard from the dealer that the Edge is a "noisy" car to begin with, so I just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this sound (crack/rattle).

    Thanks!

  2. I've had my Edge for over a year now and from day-1 I have always noticed a slight crackle sound from my windshield when driving over bumps. It was annoying but I decided to deal with it. Last week I had to get my windshield replaced for other reasons. I was hoping this would fix the sound, but it's actually more obvious than before. Maybe the seal is bad? But could I have two bad seals in a row? It was done at a dealership in below freezing temperatures. Has anyone else noticed these sounds?

    Thanks!

  3. I read up a bunch about all-weather (rubber) floor mats on this forum. Now that there's a new slew of 2008 owners on here I was curious as to what mats you'd all be purchasing to protect ur Edge from the upcoming winter season. I am tossed up between the Ford branded mats for the front and back seats and the weathertech liners. Can anybody offer differences between the two besides the price? (weathertech costs more) I will be purchasing the weathertech liner for the trunk/cargo floor because I've heard good things and Ford doesn't offer a mat through them.

    Thanks!

  4. So the folks in the OAC start building the new 2008's starting today. Let's follow along with any news on production issues, new options, photos, etc. I for one have an '08 on order so I'm very interested.

My dealer just called me today, my 2008 is ready to be picked up! I was actually surprised it came this early. A lot of people on here ordered 2008's before me and have longer estimates. I am in the Detroit area at a mainstream dealership though. I wonder if certain dealerships get priority over others for orders.

  5. I have had my 08' Edge ordered for a month. I opted to wait due to the new Sync option. How long will it be until we can expect dealers to begin filling their lots with the 2008's?

    My specs:

    2008 Ford Edge AWD Limited

Black exterior with Black leather interior

    GPS Nav/ Sync/ Sirius/ Audiophile/ 6 Disc

    Vista Roof

    20" Clad Chrome Premium Wheels

    Cargo Management System

I wouldn't have gotten the GPS Nav system if it wasn't for how much more intuitive it works with the Ford Sync system. I'm excited to see the new chrome belt-line on my black exterior.
