I was told today by my dealer that I have to have the camshaft position phaser replaced. The check engine light came on my 2008 Edge SEL AWD. The dealer said that I can still drive it until the parts come in (tells me this is a pretty big issue if the parts are back ordered). Is it safe? I have to wonder.

Just got my 2008 Edge SEL AWD diagnosed with the same issue "camshaft position phaser". The dealer told me that the parts are on back order but that I can drive the car as it is safe. When the parts come in am I going to have to give up my car for 3 days to repair it? I have just over 18K miles on it. Is it safe to drive the car as is until they fix it?

I'm having the same issue. My 2008 Edge SEL AWD with 18K miles on it began to idle roughly, little hesitation and is running rough. The check engine light came on about 3 days ago. Brought it into my dealer (AutoFair, Manchester, NH) and was told today that it was the camshaft phaser that needed to be replaced. I was told that the parts were on back order, but that the car was safe to drive. If it began acting up I should call the dealer and they would get me a loaner car to use until they can fix my Edge. Tells me that if the parts are on back order they must be fixing quite a few of these issues. I've also noticed lately that there is a smell and smoke coming from under the hood especially on long trips. Don't know if this is part of the same issue or not.
