  1. This thread is very informative. Thank you to those that have contributed to it, giving us all the information you've learned/found along the way. I have not read the entire thread from start to finish, but am pretty sure I have clicked on each page at one point or another.

That being said, I just wanted to share photos of the swap on my front interior (map/dome lights). Items I used in this swap:

    - WLED Miniature Wedge Base bulbs with High Power SMD LEDs - 360 type (2)

    -plastic interior pry tool

    -15 minutes

Here is a comparison photo I took to show the dramatic difference:

For the front you will need 2 - wedge LEDs. If you have research even a small amount, you will quickly learn there are tons and tons of variations and sellers of these. I purchased these from superbrightleds.com (fast shipping, great service, great product):

I read that some people have done the swapping of the bulbs leaving the housing in their vehicle, but given how easy it is to remove the entire housing I prefer to just remove it. Then you can take it inside and swap the bulbs w/o doing the entire swap working over your head and risk breaking a bulb while using a pliers to pull the old bulbs out.

Once you have the housing pulled out, you will see there is only 1 electrical connection to remove. Then you can take the entire housing in your home, or over to a table to work on it:

Flip housing over to begin removeing plastic lens by starting on the sides:

Then move to the 2 pegs on the front of the plastic lens:

Then remove the reflective aluminum housing around the bulbs so you can simply pull old bulbs out w/your fingers:

Swap out incandescent bulb w/LED *In this photo I have left the aluminum housing out to make the bulb position easier to see in the picture. Do this with one bulb, then plug the housing in and open your door to confirm the LED illuminates. If it does not, flip bulb around and try again. The aluminum housing needs to be put back in BEFORE you put LEDs in for last time, because the top of the LEDs will not fit through the whole for the old bulbs. Also, just push LED in until you feel it being "snug" in the slot:

That's it...pretty much just do the steps backwards and enjoy the new lights!

I purchased the festoon bulbs for the rear interior bulbs and may do a brief write-up on that, too.

  2. Any update on this issue? I'm having same problem with wifes 07 SEL and it drives me crazy. I don't wanna replace the door speakers, just to find out the head unit is actually cutting the bass out. And I don't wanna replace head unit cuz we like the controls on the steering wheel and can't imagine an aftermarket head unit keeps this functionality in place.

  3. Well I got the LEDs I could of used 39 mm LED Festoon Bulbs in all the back 3 in the map and dome light and one in the cargo .. I went off the spec in the manual. But I ordered 36mm LED Festoon Bulbs. I also have the wedge ones I installed and took back out. They look great but at night you can see a Tiny small light emitting from the center led. Not sure if that is normal for those bulbs

I am thinking of seeing if I can of getting 39mm 239 C5W Xenon White 8 LED Festoon Bulb 12V cause the ones I have only have 6 LEds a2e3_1_sbol.JPG

The crazy thing is I put the stock ones in but pull one out and put in stock one back in it shut the low emitting light off ?

Since the LED is more sensitive to voltage, it has that slight illumination where an incandescent bulb would not begin to light up. I'm told the best way to avoid this is to make sure any LED has a resistor built in...most wedge LEDs do not have resistors (maybe none of them do, no expert personally).

At least this is the knowledge I gained when converting interior of my Passat to LEDs.

  4. Trying to do some research and this forum has been a great resource for ton of knowledge. One issue I'm quite curious about, I thought some of you running 55w kits could help with.

I'm curious if anyone that has the 55w kit installed has had any issues w/overheating that causes any melting/damage to their headlight housings?

I ask because this has happened to me in the past using a 55w kit (not a kit from RS)...I'm considering using a 55w for my wifes Edge, just do not want to cause and damage to the housing.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. I am having the same issue as well. 2007 SEL+ with nav/sub. I pulled rear panel off and checked all the connections and it still cuts in and out. In my case i'm thinking either the amp is going bad or the connection at the head unit is loose.

Does anyone know or have a picture of how the sub connects to the head unit?

Yea, my thoughts are w/the head unit. We just bought an Edge and happened a few days after we got it.

I'm going to ask my buddy who is a service manager at Ford...
