  1. So...I have a 2007 Ford Edge SEL and would love to get rid of these damn bulky garage door openers after reading all these home link posts. My visors do have the vanity light and from what I am reading, all I have to do is plug this home link visor into the plug for the lighted visor that is in the A-pillar? If so, I am so doing this!

  2. The weight of the Edge at over 5,000 lbs is an issue in itself when it comes to bearings and handling. If the right equipment is used and set properly, everything will last just fine and work just fine. Nitro shocks with bump stops and limiting straps to help control and hold everything together during rough play for a smoother ride. I don't plan on going out and doing a ton of rough riding to begin with. This isn't going to be a dune runner or anything, just something I want to do that I haven't seen anyone else do. Maybe putting this out there and keeping it up to date we will see more doing it. I would just like to see the Edge lighter so everything doesn't wear so fast, even though the only thing I have replaced is the bearings and they lasted 150K.

  3. I don't have the lift on hand just yet. I'll be getting that when I get my tax returns. Don't worry, it'll all be getting done. I also have to move back to MN in a few months after I retire so just hold on. It'll be getting done and trust me, those 32's will work, I'm not worried. There is a lot of room in those wheel wells. I may even be pulling those out as well.

  4. The diameter isn't much different than the 22s that are being put on these beasts. This will not have much, if any issues with the gearing. Speedometers can be recalibrated to read correctly and so can the tachometers. Flashing the system after the Procharger is added as well, it will be fine. I just picked up some 32s and they will look great once on, just waiting for the tires on the Edge to wear down enough to be plausible for removal to make sense. By then I should have the lift and ProCharger installed as well. I'm not going to be just leaving things stock, I will be beefing up the drive line and suspension. May even be rebuilding the motor since I have over 200K on it. I've seen people with almost 300K on their Edges which is good to hear! Cannot wait to get this all started. This forum has put this all in motion and I am grateful for this to be built for us.

  5. I am keeping the factory 17 inch wheels I have on it now, blacking them out and throwing the 32's on em. There is plenty of room in those wheel wells for a bit of travel and the weight is not going to be that much of a difference for the powertrain to handle. I take care of my vehicle with the good stuff and Im not worried at all. It's paid off now so anything I put into it is just investment at that point. Already have a good competition system in it.

  6. I am looking to my fellow Edge lovers for some help as to how I can get a bit of a lift on my Edge so I can throw some 31 or 32's under the wheel wells. I have had this idea for a bit and have attached a nice pic of what I would like it to simulate. I retire in 3.5 months after 20 years on Active Duty and starting my own gunsmithing and customization shop, this is going to be my rolling advertisement and have heads turning for sure. Ill let the picture do the talking and have questions and ideas roll in here. Let er rip peeps.

  7. Just had the safety recall done on my 07 Edge SEL AWD and it took them a month to fix and replace what needed to get done. When I got it back, just a week afterwards the gas cap light came on of which wasn't on when I brought it in and they are saying they want 400 dollars to replace the Evap Canister Vent Solenoid. It's a 80 dollar part and take less than 30 minutes to replace. Never had an issue with any of this til now, same with my brand new belt squealing. Wasn't when it went in and now it's embarrassing to even drive how loud it is. They said they won't do anything. Love this vehicle to death but it's going to be the death of me if this squeal don't get taken care of and that started the next day after picking it up.

  8. I would just like to address the fact that I wish this was around when I was having PTU issues when I lived in upstate NY just before I went overseas and moved my family back to MN while I was. We had a full vehicle and was towing a 70 bug on a trailer as well. There was no way that I was going to make it if I didn't get something fixed. I spent almost $800 and had everything changed from the rear to the front, flushed and filled. The dealership I was working with treated me real well and explained everything to me while I was in the shop with the car on the lift pointing out the issues with the PTU. They changed out the fluid after flushing it out several times due to the thickness in it and it was like a new car. This fluid service happened with 165,000 miles on the car and we now have 184,000 miles on it currently with it still running like a top. Only thing I have had to do to the car is the bearings all the way around as far as any major issues is concerned, not including the massive safety recall Ford has with the fuel tank. Ford had my car for 3 weeks after finding out that my vehicle was one of the few that had a massive fuel leak coming through the top of the tank. They gave us a rental and paid for everything while the car was being worked on. We are now about to have the timing chain cover removed due to a pretty bad leak and was told it'll cost $1200 but it needs to be done. It's about that time for this kind of stuff to be start and is expected. We love this vehicle and it has been across the country several times now, more than I can count. Bought it in 2010 before I went to Afghanistan with 68K miles on it and drive it everywhere. Other than my 00 Ranger (11years) and 00 Expedition (6 years), this is the longest we have had a vehicle going on 5 years now and plan to drive the wheels off this thing. Excellent post everyone and looks like I'll be on here much more over time. By the way, the Edge pulled that loaded trailer 1,300 miles from Upstate NY to MN like a champ!

  9. I have personally had this issue with the PTU fluid change and it didn't cost much and I got it done in upstate NY where everything is expensive. I did a huge fluid change in everything in that car before the 1300 mile hike to MN before I went to Korea. That flush and refill stopped all heavy shifting and the sudden thud when accelerating up hill and even if accelerating quickly on flat roads, especially in town. Best choice I made and they showed my the fluid afterwards and it was charred! Absolutely stunk! I say to everyone that owns one of these to have the fluid flushed and filled every 100,000 miles. I did mine at 165K and have 184K on it now. This car never quits and has been back and forth across the country several times. I cannot complain. Now I need to have the timing cover removed and new sealant put in due to its first oil leak. Gonna replace everything in the process, pulleys, guides, tensioners, chains, ect. Might as well if it is all being ripped apart to do the seal. Excellent site, love this thing. Been a minute since I have been on it after being overseas for the last year.

  10. I haven't seen over 19mpg for a tank yet. I drive >80% hwy and <20% city. I did take one trip of a couple hundred highway miles and managed about 19.8mpg. Looking on Fuelly, it looks like the 2011s are having a tough time coming close to the 25mpg (or 27 for FWD) rating:

I'm hoping this is just a combination of winter gas, cooler weather, and not being fully broken in yet... although I'm not very optimistic.

The day after I bought my 2007 AWD SEL, I had it packed down with 3 adults and my two kids and drove from MN to NY before deployment and we got an average of 21-22 MPG and that was pretty much all HWY other than to get gas and Chicago traffic. I was excited to get the Edge and get at least 25 on the HWY, wasn't happy with what I seen after that trip. I might have well as kept the 2000 Expedition with AWD because it got the same MPG and it weighs considerably more!!!!! I still love the Edge though, don't get me wrong. Just disappointed with the false advertising put on by Ford on this one and I have owned nothing but Fords! I am blue oval through and through, so is my family! I have to give chevy the props on the mpg class in this AO as much as I hate to say it! Ford needs to get their head out of their fourth point of contact on this one!
