  1. Got the Sync upgrade for my 2008 Edge (911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report) and when the tech guy tried to pair Sync with my Samsung cell phone it was a total fail. Worked fine before the upgrade. He said the bluetooth in my Samsung is just not compatible with the latest Sync upgrade. Well, dang. He also said that it's his experience that the iPhone is the most compatible. Do member of this forum also find this to be the case? I'd hate to get an iPhone only to have that not work either... Thanks!
  2. I lose my signal when I go under an overpass, or pull into a parking garage, but otherwise listening to Sirius is a joy. Sorry.
  3. I finally got around to doing to Sync upgrade (I have a 2008 Edge.) The upgrade gave me two things: 911 Assist, and Vehicle Health Report. Unless you purchased an after-market MyFord Touch system for your 08, there are no more upgrades. At least that's what my tech guy told me.
  4. bbf... thank you for posting about Ziegler and replying to my message. Your initial post helped ease my mind and will save me a few hundred. In these times, every dollar helps. My dealer, known for manipulating customers by omitting or flat-out lying about info, once again tried to squeeze more money out of me. The warranty manager gave me an initial quote of $1,400 and would not even offer me a lower mileage price. I cannot wait to own my car so that I'm no longer tied to them. (I know this is what car dealerships do, but somehow mine seems worse!) Going with Ziegler allows me to opt for the $0 deductible, which I think is a nice thing to have. I received an e-mail from Ziegler today... I'll be paying for my ESP this weekend. Even though it takes effect immediately, I will feel more confident once it's in the Ford system on Monday. Note to 4havnfun... my 3 year/36,000 factory warranty expires on Tuesday, along with my lease. So Monday is my last day to extend my warranty without losing options, paying more, and facing a possible service inspection. I'm really glad I took the time to do some online research, even though I'm cutting it close, as the research has saved me quite a bit of money.
  5. Thank you. I did scan the forum for other answers but must have missed that one so I appreciate the link. Looks like some folks have had difficulty getting in touch with Ziegler. Michael Case has been getting right back to me (via email), so maybe their communication has improved. Since it's all a crapshoot and chances are I won't have any warranty repairs over the next four years, I feel much better spending a few hundred dollars less for an ESP. Plus, it always seems like when you don't have "insurance," more stuff goes wrong. Michael told me if I placed the order this weekend they'd get me in the Ford system Monday morning. I'm going to my dealer to buy my car Monday afternoon. I will be SO glad to be done with all this negotiating.
  6. I have decided to get the Ford ESP PremiumCare plan. The quote I got from my dealer seemed high so I did some internet shopping. There are some Ford dealers in other states that have much better ESP prices. Mentioned this to my dealer, but they aren't interested in quoting anything besides the factory prices. They tried to tell me that because I'm in California where emissions standards are stricter I should get my ESP in California. That makes no sense. The Ford ESP is a nationwide plan accepted at any Ford service center. Plus, emissions repairs don't happen until a car is more than 10 years old. Anyway... I wanted to ask this forum if anyone's had dealings with Lombard Ford in Connecticut (http://www.fordwarrantys.com) or Zeigler Ford in Michigan (http://www.fordfactoryplans.com). Here are the quotes I got for the PremiumCare plan, 84 months and 36,000 miles, $0 and $50 deductible, incl. first day rental coverage... My dealer (same as flmowner.com: $ 0 deductible: $940 $ 50 deductible: $830 fordwarrantys.com (Lombard Ford): $ 0 deductible: $760 $50 deductible: $714 fordfactoryplans.com (Zeigler Ford): $ 0 deductible: $615 $50 deductible: $505 Obviously, the quote from Zeigler is the best of the three. Has anyone gotten their ESP from Zeigler? My own service dept. said they've had several customers mention they got theirs from fordwarrantys.com. Any and all comments appreciated. P.S. My lease expires on Tuesday so not much more time to deal with quotes.
  7. Thank you all for the excellent advice and insight. I've been doing research on service/repair problems common with 2008 Edge SE's and it looks like an ESP would cover practically everything. An exception would be the brake rotor. Some owners are reporting that this is costing them up to $600 to get repaired. I talked to my service dept. and they said this is happening usually within the first year, but they're seeing it up to 18,000 miles. Apparently it's an '08 FWD anomaly. Most of the time, it goes away on its own. But for those who opt to get it fixed, it is NOT covered by the PremiumCare ESP. Last year my master cylinder brake booster was leaking, but was fixed and fully covered. All in all, they're telling me the '08 FWD is pretty solid, better than the '07. The TrueDelta site confirms this. They also said they'd be happy to upgrade my Sync to add 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report, no charge. Anything beyond that would be an "after market" purchase, and is too pricey for me. I'd be better off getting a portable dashboard GPS for the few times I need one. Anyway, thanks very much again. You've all been very helpful. P.S. Re: the "bugs" that akirby mentioned... my dealer concurs.
  8. akirby, thank you for that. I believe that is what the leasing manager was explaining to me (you worded it more clearly). At first I thought he was just trying to get me to buy my car because they'd lose money on it in an auction, and he said, "No, with that kind of mileage and because it's in such good condition we'd keep it and turn a profit. I'm telling you to buy it because it's the best option for you." You know, I keep hearing about the new Edge, how the brakes are so much better, and the ride is smoother and it's quieter... and I've been trying to make it work, but I keep coming up short. He worked with the numbers, rebates, and the options to get me the best deal possible, but with money so tight I think the best thing for me is to buy it. Thank you for confirming that. I looked up the trade-in value on the KBB site tonight and my buy-out price is about $4,000 less than the trade-in value for my zip code. I can get an ESP plan that covers me bumper-to-bumper up to 36,000 mi. / 84 months for about $800. If I buy it through flmowner.com I can make payments, no interest. Yes, I know what you mean about the mileage limit. Thank you for explaining everything so clearly. It's funny... mine is ice blue metallic and it seems like every other week someone is stopping me in a parking lot to ask what year it is because they like the color. The new Edge colors don't offer anything like it. So, hey, there's another plus.
  9. Hello! My 2008 Edge SE is my third leased car, and my lease is up in one week. I've been doing quite a bit of research on trade-in value, repair history, etc. In talking with my leasing manager, it's looking like the best option for me is to buy my car. It has 9,500 miles and is in very good condition. Last year it had a transmission seal leak, but the problem was fixed and nothing else "major" has come up. Right now it's a matter of pure economics... Ford is offering some very good deals on the 2011 SEL, loaded, but it's still more than I can afford right now. I've yet to talk to someone who felt that buying my car is a bad idea. So I thought I'd check with you fine folks. Good idea? Horrible mistake? Because of my low mileage I can get the ESP for an affordable price, and I think an extended warranty is a good idea. But I'd love to hear any and all advice, support, pitfalls, pros, cons, etc. Thank you!
