  1. Sounds like your module may be bad. Good luck.

     

    Keep documentation from the dealer. Make sure your work order states the problems you are having,not just dealer is to install an update. Keep a diary of problems if you can and video record problems if you can.

  2. It looks like i have version 2.4 and need to update but the syncmyride site won't let me download 2.8.

     

     

    2.8 is dealer installed only, but all dealer updates are free until January 2012, I believe. There is reference to some sort of customer care program elsewhere on this forum. Ford sent out a letter to a bunch of 11 Edge owners about it. I did not get a letter, but my dealer has been very cooperative.

  3. Hi guys,

     

    Sometimes when I use the volume button on the steering wheel the volume will take off and get real loud when all I do is click it once. Do I have something setup wrong or do you think I have a faulty button? I have a 2011 wit my ford touch

     

    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciative.

     

     

    I have had my 11 Edge for about 8 months and I have had that happen about 4? 5? times. Somebody else reported that on this forums a couple of months ago, too. I haven't had it in quite some time, I know definitely not since I was upgraded to version 2.8

    This is something only a geek would understand, but that is me.

     

    In computer vision (think of a camera viewing things on an assembly line to view the edge of the item for inspection or for a robot to do something with the object), the edge is determined by an algorithm. One of the most popular and best algorithms for edge detection is the Canny edge detector. I wanted to get CANNY on my plates which relates to the vehicle as well as my background.

     

    Canny has other meanings, though, such as shrewd, and I wanted to emphasize the edge detection aspect.

     

    Can't spell GEEK without a double E. Anybody get that?

  5. Thanks for the tips on the Nav System! I have tried it a couple of times now and it does seem to make a difference. One thing I am uncertain of though... how do I send an address to my car through Google? :unsure: :headscratch:

     

     

    Go to google.com, then click on maps. type in an address and the map of that area will show up. On the right, near the top you will see "print send link"

    Click on send, then car. Enter the make and model and phone number, then click send. All done.

     

    Get in your car, go to sync services, directions , and the voice should ask you if you want to go to the google destination, or something like that.

  6. Has anybody gotten an aftermarket sunroof for an 11 Edge, or do you know if it even possible? I ordered my Edge specifically without the BAMR because of the problems I read about it. I would be very happy with just a standard size powered moonroof like I had on my 05 Escape or wife has on 11 Equinox.

     

    If installing one is posible, shoudl I worry about voiding the warranty? Do dealers have preferred sunroof vendors that they recommed that wouldn't void the warranty?

I bought my 2011 Edge Limted FWD with most of the options (302A, Dual Headrest DVD system, 20" wheels, tow package, Nav System, MFT and BAMR, but not the cargo accessory package or the illuminated door sill plates), Platinum White. I absolutly LOVE my new car! I traded in a 14 year old Civic with well over 350,000 miles on it. The Civic was on its last miles, the distrubtor was shot, the exhaust manifold was cracked, the automatic locks stopped working years ago along with the factory installed alarm system, the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced, the vehicle speed sensor died and the timing belt was overdue by about 75,000 miles. Yes, I was ready for a new car.

     

    I was attracted to the Edge by the cool technology and other features it offered. The looks and features also won me over compared to the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Nissan Murano and Lexus RX450h. Yes, there were features I liked on the other vehicles, but the Edge's overall package was the best deal. Even though I could have gotten a discount on the Lexus. However, I will admit.... after reading the forums for weeks, I was very concerned about the My Ford Touch system. Obviously I still "pulled the trigger". I bought the Ford ESP plan just in case (5 years or 100,000 miles).

     

    I sure would hate to jinx myself, but so far, I have not experienced any of the problems I have read on this forum. The back-up camera works as it should with no delay in switching from reverse to drive, all of the touch-buttons are equally responsive, voice recognition is almost perfect (I'm still trying to get the hang of voice command for the Nav system) and the fit and trim is excellent. The version of MFT I have is 2.8. I think my car was built in late March and I took delivey on Memorial Day. There was about 25 miles on it when I took it out for my test drive.

     

    What made the deal better for me was that Ford was offering a guaranteed $1000 for my car (until Memorial Day) AND the dealership tossed in an additional $200! I also took advantage of the $1000 cash back and the $750 coupon. I have driven my car almost 2 weeks now and have almost 1500 miles on it already. Back in 1991 I bought a brand new Ford Explorer and I had great luck with that car. I drove it for 330,000 miles and 10 years before I sold it to my neighbor. I am hoping to have similar luck with my new Edge, cause as you might be able to tell, I keep my cars for a while.

     

    The things I am not 100% satisfied with? Well, I'm only 5'6" and I must remember to duck while entering the car or I could bang my head on the door/roof line. I'm also a bit dissapointed in the gas mileage I'm getting, so far I have averaged about 22-23 mpg. I'll miss my Honda's 31 mpg. I really was hoping to buy the EcoBoost engine, but as I described above, I don't think my Honda would have made it till that engine makes it to the Edge (around September I think). My Honda was due for registration AND Smog. With the cracked exhaust manifold and bad oxygen sensor, I didn't want to put more money into it (my mechanic wanted $2000).

     

    Yes, it is night and day from my Civic to my Edge and I am loving it!

    The mileage you are getting on your Edge is near the sticker max, so that is good. As far as the nav commands, I found using sync services navigation a LOT easier. Press sync, say services, then directions. It recognizes numbers and street names MUCH better. You must have a phone paired, though. Also, try sending an address to your car through Google. Than is NICE! Then you "pick it up" through sync services when you get in your car.

  8. I have an 11 Edge SEL.

     

    For basically the exact same price, wife just bought an 11 Equinox. She has some features I don't have and I have some she doesn't.

     

    She: power lift gate, remote start, sunroof

     

    Me, MFT (has a few problems but I still like it better than what Chevy offers), bigger engine ( I believe) , ambient lighting, more room, rear seats lowered electrically/one touch

  9. Wondering if anyone else has seen this.. I got the 2.8 install a few weeks ago. I always keep my ipod connected. When first connected it will index the music and then build the media commands. But it seems like it never finishes building the media commands. I keep about 3 gigs of music on my ipod it indexed pretty fast but here we are 2 weeks later and its still building media commands. I also notice that when I turn the car off come back later while the song resumes where it left off it starts my playlist over again. IE if i was listing to song 34 of 680 when i start the car back up its the display shows song 1 of 680. Its a bit wierd. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior with the 2.8?

     

     

    I have 2.8 and my index speed was OK. I get the same thing when restarting the car: Same song but 1 of playlist. That doesn't bother me at all,as it is in shuffle mode and will get through them all eventually anyway.

     

    I am documenting problems and from what the dealer has said, iPods are causing problems. This seems to be the case as I have not had iPod touch connected in a few days and have had no problems. What i may do is connect iPod through audio inputs, not USB so it does not respond to voice commands and does not really use MFT resources like a USB connection

  10. No one knows how to check what version of FMT or Sync is installed???

     

     

    To see what version of Sync/MFT, you need to register at syncmyride.com. Site has been down for the last couple of days, but when you log in, you will see on the right side of the screen what version you have. You can then go to "Updates" to see if there is a new version avaialble, but what they say is not correct, as they do not always keep the notification current.

  11. Update: May 2011

     

    So, I have been to the dealer 4 times.The updated the system the third time,but I still have the same issues...The told me to come back the 4th time to replace touch screen system but...But.....They dealer said they don't see anything wrong the 4th time.....

    So I pick up my Edge from dealer and in their parking lot.....GUESS WHAT...its doing the same thing..So I showed the manager and she told me they cannot due anything and I would have to contact Ford.( I guess its a good thing I had that days morning paper and a video enabled phone for proof .

    I did contact Ford and now Im stuck with a problem. A Ford corporate representative told me the update fixed most of the edge trucks,and she didn't know why it didn't fix mine. I asked her why she did not use the word "all" instead of "Most" trucks.......she couldn't answer!

    ALSO...ADDING (btw,this might be normal..I think its crazy ) if my kid opens the back window. We will go Deaf from the noise and unbelievable pressure to our ears,but If you open a front window, it will go away.The Dealer says its normal,but it's still not right. What happens If i don't want my window open? and when my front seat goes back(Top Part ) It makes a gear breaking noise.

     

    The issue with the back windows has happened to me with several SUVs so I don't see this as a problem, it's just physics

  12. I just bought my Edge 2 weeks after Sirius changed their channel line-up and I have to go to the dealer for them to upgrade it. I suggest you do the same.

     

    I did the Sirius update and it worked for a week. Now I can't say the name of the channel. I can say the number or touch the preset and it is OK. Here is the resolution, which is to say there is no resolution yet:

  13. This happened to me over the weekend as well on a trip. My understanding is that the channel lineups have just changed and our radios had to download the new information. Mine seemed to be stuck on the down part of our trip (about 2 hours), but by the next morning everything was working fine. I still have an occational problem where my "Browse" feature in Sirius will just seem to hang or will come up with a blank screen, but I have seen that before this latest update.

     

     

    I did the Sirius update and it worked for a week. Now I can't say the name of the channel. I can say the number or touch the preset and it is OK. Here is the resolution, which is to say there is no resolution yet:

  14. I am on 2.4 and since Sirius changed the channels I have had trouble with some of the channels. Sirius tried 3 times to reset but no luck. They requested I call back in a few days for a possible solution.

     

     

    It's only saying the name of the station, not the number, and the presets still work.

     

    I heard from the dealer. It is happening on a "number" of Edge's, MKX and Explorers. Ford will be coming out with another update to address this problem

  15. A little background first, maybe this should be in the 2.8 topic? About 2 weeks ago I got the 2.8 update after various intermittent problems. After the update, intermittently my blackberry would not connect, or display said connected but when I tried to make a call voice said trying to connect to previously paired phone. I also did the Sirius channel update last week and that went fine. Took it back for the phone problem, dealer replaced the module and reloaded 2.8. Now, the only problem I seem to have which I never had before is that when I say a Sirius station NAME, such as Classic Vinyl, Elvis etc. it takes me to the wrong station. I can touch those pre-sets, directly enter or say the channel number and all is OK, it is just when I say the station NAME, and it happens. This happens with almost all station names.

     

    I tried re-doing the Sirius update four times, including calling Sirius, explaining the problem and them initiating the update signal.

     

    I recall that when I did the Sirius thing last week I got a message on the display that update was complete. I never got that message in the four tries yesterday, although th elady from Sirius said I may not see a message.

     

    Any ideas? Anybody? Anybody?

  16. Since I've been a proponent of people getting this 2.8 update I want to admit some problems I have been experiencing as well. Maybe I mess with this Travellink stuff more than the average owner, I'm not sure, but for whatever reason most of my Travellink options have been hung up with the dreaded hourglass for the past 3 days, and when I try to go to the weather directly with a voice command it comes back and says "Acquiring" with a pop up message that it will take a few minutes to download the information. Also, I have noticed that my Sirius Music Channel Guide will hang up most times I try to pull that up as well.

     

    The weird thing on the Travellink stuff is both "Sports" and "Ski Conditions" are working, but everything else is stuck on the hourglass deal. Kind of handy since I'm not into either one. :-)

     

     

    Do you know Sirius and XM updated their channels the other day so they match each other? The system had to do an update, did yours seem to "take"? There should have been messages on the screen.

     

    My 2.8 seems better than 2.4. I've had it for about 10 days. In the first couple of days it dropped my connection to my phone and I had a heck of a time reconnecting-had to re-pair, but since then no problems with any part of th eMFT.

  17. So I went to the dealer today to get my winter tires switched over to my summer tires, they told me there was a dealer install update for my 2011 ford edge limited, so I told them to go ahead with it. 6 Hours and 5 tries later the update was installed successfully.

     

    The only thing I see that's fixed is the ambient lighting works perfectly now, blue is blue and green is green.

     

    Does anyone else notice what this update fixed?

  18. Took my 2011 MKX in to my local Ford/Lincoln dealership where I purchased it for the first scheduled maintenance and an assortment of warranty issues. Of those warranty issues, none were fixed presumably because the dealership wasn't able to reproduce any of them. I suspect they didn't try very hard.

     

    My blindspot indicators haven't worked for the past several days (no sensor blocked message this time). Dealer claims they work yet driving away from the lot they didn't (would have turned around and told them about it but it was closing time). I complained that my Auto-Wipers almost never work (they have worked maybe 3 times out of hundreds of times when they should have worked - windshield can be completely obscured with rain or road splash and those wipers just won't move unless I manually turn them on). Dealer said they work. What are the odds? I mentioned that my steering column squeals noticeably whenever it moves in or out in cold weather. Dealer said it didn't do it for them. Well, duh, I said it happens in COLD weather. One might think think they could have lubricated it anyway!

     

    Continue to have a fascinating assortment of Sync issues, now affecting Climate and Navigation functions. Dealership can't reproduce them (well no kidding, virtually none of the Sync issues are strictly reproducible, I'm just hoping to be be kept up to date with updates) But no hope of any Sync updates beyond 2.4 in Canada as the dealership has no record of there being anything newer than that. Are Canadian dealerships really kept that much in the dark?

     

    One limited success story is they are ordering in a replacement window trim for the bottom of one of my rear windows because mine is "warped". It's not warped actually, it was just applied crooked so that one end is too high and the other too low. Oh well, chances are they are actually going to fix that one.

     

    So it appears I'm going to need to have my video camera with me at all times so I can document all these non-reproducible issues. Might get a bit tricky video-recording and driving but I'm game. Like probably most dealerships nowadays, there seems to be a serious disconnect between the customer service girl at the counter who has virtually no idea of the functions of the vehicles they sell and the mechanics in the back who do the work. That is very frustrating for the customer.

     

    Oh yeah, one more thing that really pissed me off. This was the second consecutive time I've been promised a loaner vehicle (we Lincoln customers are a cut above don't you know) but when I show up in the morning, there's none to be had. That really put a crimp in my day. I've had it with these guys but the only other anywhere near-local dealer is a Ford only dealership that seems to have a pretty good service reputation. But can a Ford dealer do warranty service on a Lincoln vehicle?

     

    I would check on free scheduled maintenance, as that may only be able to be done at a Lincoln dealer.

    On the sync/touch issues, I placed a digital camera that does movies on a "sticky pad" at the back of the center console so the view is of the main screen. Before I start the car I start recording. If no problems are recorded on the capacity of the SD card, I just delete. If there are problems, I transfer to PC with a filename that describes the problem also with a time, if possible. I also narrate when there is a problem. In the narration I start off with date and time, and also have the radio on so date and time could also be confirmed.

     

    I let service dept. know of problems and videos, will take it in for 2.7 update. Not a lot of problems and they are intermittent, but they are annoying and I want them fixed. In my state, Lemon law includes them trying to fix the same problem 4 times within one year. I count needing 2.4 and 2.7 as two of those, as I got them because system was not functioning properly. If I still have problems after 2.7 I will take it back immediately and tell them they are up to 3 tries. I got MFT because it allowed me to get nav, but I have a lot more confidence in basic sync. and I can get a cheap nav unit for a lot less than MFT and 795 for nav. I love everything else about my Edge

  19. Thats a long time for any server upgrade. Any idea where that rumor started? Did Ford inform dealers not to perform upgrades this weekend?

     

    About a week/10 days ago ago I was going to get the 2.7 update but the day I selected dealer told me sync site would be down and he couldn't do it . He later contacted me and told me the date was moved back, which I guess is now this weekend. I think a weekend is fine as a lot of dealer service depts are not open on Sat and no dealers here are open on sundays
