No. 149 here. Being a Ford OAC worker I was here mostly between Dec. 06 and Feb.07 just to get info on production and gauge interest in our new product. Since everything seems to be very positive (and believe me,we do appreciate the compliments and feedback) I've mostly just been lurking.

Gotta tell you that I love Ford Rangers. I think it's THE most underrated vehicle that Ford has. I have a 1993 XLT 4X4 with the 4.0L engine and it's been extremely reliable.

Absolutely Robert!! Ive been driving Rangers since 98. I'm on my 4th lease and going for another in 08. I've worked at OTP and OAP (now OAC) for 23yrs. and have always wanted to buy something that we build but we just haven't built anything that fits my needs. Love just about everything the Edge has but I don't think I could get a load of top-soil in the back and the Ranger is a lot cheaper to go to and from work(90% of my driving) By the way,thanks for the link to the sales figures-got them the next day.

Spikey-I think you're right on with your delivery estimate, except, with the CN rail strike ongoing it could add a few days even if they go back to work early next week.

Hi guys (and gals) been awhile since I've posted. Just wondering if anyone has seen the Jan.sales figures for the Edge and other Ford vehicles. Maybe it's just me and the shows I watch but there seems to be a distinct lack of advertising up here in Canada for all Ford products. I've heard nothing but good things from customers who have taken delivery of an Edge and management claims they are counting on it to help rebuild the Ford name, so why aren't they getting the word out?There are probably 250 million people out there in NA who don't even know what an Edge is.(Hoping someone in Dearborn actually reads some of these posts)

First off, Ford is NOT going to invoice your window sticker for the vista roof if it is not there. You cannot possibly charge someone for something like that - just ask Elliott Spitzer

 

There are hundreds upon hundreds of Edge models here in Dearborn and guess what: Many HAVE vista roofs

 

I would find a new Ford dealership and never go back to the one that you are dealing with. I'd like to know which dealership it is that is telling you this

 

What we need is a Ford Edge dealership HALL OF SHAME. Might we have our first inductee?

Hello Robertlane (Robert?) As i'm sure you've seen in other forums, there are already a number of dealers trying to gouge customers based on the demand and short supply of Edges. I wonder if there might be away to get Venom a pin for the Friends and Neighbors Plan. Since every invoice on the A/X/Z Plans go back to Ford he'll not only get the best price, there's no way the dealer can rip him off.

rt2525, Do you work for ford? And can I quote you on it and show it to the dealership?

 

As the sales manager explained it to me by restricted was since ford was behind on production they just sent vechiles with or without the Vista roofs and it didn't matter what you ordered! Which I think the dealership just f@#ked up!

 

I just need someone from the factory to tell me this is not true, and I'll show the dealership that they messed up

Yes I work in the Body dept. at OAC. and you can quote me. Every day we see about 20% of the vehicles with no roof(BAMR option) I have also spent some time in the final assembly area and pre-delivery in the last few months. The Vista roofs are being built,trimmed and shipped at the same rate as the others.Both Edge and MKX.I wish I could give you the name and number of the Controller at OAC, I hear he's very good at working ouy customer/dealer complaints.(I don't have access to the OAC Intranet)

Did any other oac employees hear that the complex will be on a supplier created downweek on jan.29th? I'm hearing the company that supplies the wheel rims cannot keep up with our demand already????

Gawd I love Rumors. Heard the same thing last night(A-Shift).Talked to our MPS,he said it's possible but they might just cut back to 8 hrs. in Trim and Chassis for awhile. Makes no sense to work and pay overtime if you're just going to have to lay-off later.Chrysler-Brampton is currently paying for thier overproduction.

I ordered my vechile on the week of Thanksgiving (in Canada) and my dealership called me to today to tell me the my Edge SEL w/vista roof was here, Yay! So, I thought any ways! So, I get into test drive it and I look up and NO VISTA ROOF! WTF So, I tell them this must not be mine? but it was! I talked to the sales manager and he says that the Vista Roof is on restriction, and that ford is just pushing out whatever it can do? 1st. is this true? 2nd. The Sales manager refuses to give me any kind of deal of on it, he's planning on charging for the vista roof even though it's not there! 3rd. They knew the vechile wasn't coming in with a Vista Roof in Mid December and apparently forgot to tell me, so I've been without a vechile for almost 4 months now, when I could have ordered a new Edge with the option or another vechile. 5th. he told me straight out that I have too talk to ford about this because they won't talk to them to get it straightened out for me! 6th Then he has the balls to say take or leave it because I can sell it tomorrow!

 

P.S. The chrome wheels also didn't come either, but I don't care less about that.

Absolute BULL, your dealer screwed up, plane and simple and expects you to pay for his mistakes.For the thousanth time-there are NO problems with the Vista roofs. We've been building them since Day 1.

I'd like to add my thanks to the Edge team... I turned in my screamin' yellow '04 Cobra 'vert for a dark amethyst SEL w/ AWD and the BAMR! Love it. Fit and finish are excellent, and it is soooooooooo quiet! Thanks, and good luck!

1. How many Edge's/MKX's per day or per week is Oakville producing??

2. When will dealer inventory build be completed? Or has it been completed?

3. Do ordered units take build priority over dealer inventory?

4. I ordered an MKX Jan 2..dealer say it could be 4 months until I receive it.

1-We are now up to 400 per 10 hr. shift or 800 per day. 2-I believe the initial 30,000 dealer stock order has been completed. 3-Yes 4- I've heard some dealers are saying 6-10 weeks but based on incoming orders (high demand) and personal experience I would bet 3 months would be a good guess.

Could someone give me an idea of how many Edge's are still waiting to get worked on. Mine was build a bunch of months ago, but is sitting around. Thanks-

I was told last week there were 5,000 retrofits still to be done,then last night someone told me it was closer to 7,200. We are currently doing about 200 per day,sorry, not much help with your delivery question.

According to someone I know who works directly with Ford Marketing, there is some sort of problem with the Vista Roof. So there is a good probability of what bals13's dealer told him is true. Infact all the Edges with Vista Roofs currently on the auto show circuit are preproduction models, as they are unable to get production models currently.

Have to agree with foxrun, BAMR roof problems are old news-corrected months ago, we've been shipping all versions of Edge and MKX since Dec.7.

I've seen the black cloth but in the SEL you can only get leather.

What work are you doing on the 29th?

First, to answer bal13's question about the trim colors,as far as I could tell ALL Edge interiors have the light tan upper trim.I didn't care for it much at first but it really grows on you, most customers are going to be very pleased. I was in on the29th working in pre-delivery doing metal repair and fits. All retrofitted vehicles have to go through the process again before release

I know he is full of it. I wish I would see some with a roof around, so I can call him on it though. RT2525, Could you tell me if the Carcoal interior has a tan top and sides or if it is all black inside? I saw the charcoal leather has a tan top and it looked really sharp. Thanks-

bals 13 Your dealer is full of S**t. We've been building the Vista roofs on Edges and MKX's since day One.(I work in the Body Dept. OAC) Sounds like he's willing to give you any excuse for the delay rather than doing a little work of his of his own. ANY built vehicle can be traced from the 1st job in Body framing all the way to your dealer.

Ford knows about the concern..it is being corrected as you read this post.

Right you are Charly. Sounds like invisible must be one of our suppliers. OAC is in the process of setting up a repair line in Body2 that will be refitting 10,000 plus Edges -24/7 til they're done.

Just curious, where are these holding points in Western Canada! My dealer today told me that all the holding points are around Oakville, ON.....is this true? He also said it would be about a 10 to 14 day train ride to the West before I even get to see it :angry:

Ya got me there venom. In previous years Ford rented spaces around Oakville and Milton to store vehicles until their release date. This year, they tried to hold as many on-site as possible. Once our yard filled up and the release date kept getting pushed back it started to interfere with production. It was my understanding that Ford was shipping some to some dealers willing to store them and do the needed parts changes before sale.

Read on Automotive News and heard it from our production manager. Yes we are shipping today! Good news for both customers and us workers. Once our on-site storage area gets some room we can really start pumpin' em out.

The Oroge in direct sunlight looks amazing, the Redfire wold be a close second.They should have chosen silver rather than the light grey.

You will get answers to ALL of those questions...The new Plant Manager is having meetings with trim and chassis employees right now.

I work in Body and my guess is,Charley, you are with management in some capacity.We missed Miniely's speech Friday but from what I've heard the gist of it was Ford is losing up to 10 mil per day because of these delays and we're in for at least one more.You can only tell people (employees and customers) to be patient for so long.Eventually you're going to lose your most valued customers.Those Die-hard Ford fans and the ones willing to buy pre-build on faith.I"ve heard over and over how they won't let the Edges go until they're perfect but Dec. or Jan. are not the months to get your pruduct out for the rest of the world to see.

Has anyone heard about some of the workers layed off Monday being recalled back?

Yes, 60 hourly and 50 skilled trades workers were back today after 4 days on lay-off. Nice forthem though we didn't work the day shift. Trim and chassis had a "meet the new boss" session and were sent home.

Sorry to all the Edge fans out there, but as a long time enployee of Ford(both Truck plant and Freestar) I can honestly say this has been the slowest launch by far of any Ford product. My question is,is there anybody out there with any concrete information as to the cause of these delays. We have heard of a nunber of different things from the BAMR roof leaks to fluid leaks and now bad wheel bearings. Trying to get asimple answer from either the union or management is harder than pulling out your own Eye teeth.Real info would be greatly appreciated-rumors though,well sorry but I think I've heard em all already.
