  1. Sounds like you definitely have the problem. Mine has been fine ever since the warranty repair. No smell at all, running great. I think all dealer service shows up on a carfax report, at least it did on mine and that's how I knew this hadn't been done before I got mine. Someone else had trouble getting this taken car of as a warranty item either in Europe or Canada, I forget where (read it a while ago). I hope you don't have an issue because you're not in the states. From what I've read (and experienced) the fix was discovered/implemented in Feb of 2010 and now it's no big deal. A combination of the right seals and (more importantly) the right tools turned out to be the key. If you look at the TSB it says that use of a prybar or any tool other than the one specified will definitely cause problems and require repeat service. IMO, this one might be worth driving a bit to get it covered by a dealer experienced in this repair and willing to do it for you under warranty. Good luck!
  2. Hey Everyone, The wife and I have been saving up for a used Edge for a while now. We both liked the styling and the creature comforts when we test drove a new one a couple of years ago. Our plan was to let someone else eat the depreciation and pick one up off lease and that's what we ended up doing. There seems to be a lot of '07 and '08s in my area in great shape so we took our time and found a nice one. We were hoping for a black one or maybe dark blue but for me the color is always secondary to the condition with a used car. You can't pass up the right one when it comes along just because it's not perfect (although there are a few colors that we wouldn't even look at). Anyway it's an '07 SEL AWD in Dune Pearl Metallic and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Apparently it started it's life as a fleet or rental car (according to Carfax) but it's been really well maintained. We're really loving the fact that all of our kids (3 of them, all over 5'10" tall) can ride with us even on a long car ride. That hasn't been the case for us in a while. The size of the interior is deceiving, it feels like a much larger car from the inside. I already had it in for the PTU seal issue and the local dealer service department (which isn't even the place I bought it) took care of it under the 5/50 powertrain warranty, no charge for any part of it so now we're pretty psyched to have found a really nice example. And the color is growing on me...
  3. Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones! I dropped it off yesterday first thing at the local Ford Dealership (not even the one where I bought it) with a note mentioning the smell and that there's a TSB about the PTU. I asked them not to do any work without contacting me first because I wanted to try to get it covered under the warranty. Not a word until 4:00pm when they said: 'Your car is ready, we replaced the parts under your Powertrain warranty, you can come pick it up by 6.' Didn't charge me a dime and also gave me a clean bill of health on their '20 point check up' or whatever that is where they check the tires, breaks, oil and fluids and stuff. The receipt says which parts were covered and mentions the TSB they did the warranty under. No muss, no fuss. Now I guess I'll wait to see if the problem returns but I was really glad it was part of the 5/50 powertrain deal because it means I've still got a year and plenty of miles to see if it comes back. Thanks everyone!
  4. That's great to know. I was a little nervous because there are lots of threads that mention bad experiences with this (admittedly some are pretty old) and I was wondering why I got such a great deal on the AWD. Add to that the fact that the dealership apparently held it until just after the 3 year/36 month bumper-to-bumper period and I was thinking I might be in for a rough ride. I guess my initial impression that there is just a glut of cars coming in off lease may not have been far off. Sometimes timing and luck are on your side. Thanks for chiming in.
  5. Hey thanks for the response and the great news (I think). I have the warranty guide and was hoping it was part of the system that's considered the 'power train' (which is where I consider it) but didn't know just how it was being handled by most dealers. I'll be making the call first thing in the am to get an appointment. So far very happy with the car and the wife loves it. I was hoping this part would be covered. Thanks again!
  6. Hey everyone, Just got a smokin deal on a 2007 Edge SEL AWD. Then I found out why it was a smokin' deal. It's a smokin' car. It's get the smell that I assume is the PTU leak. I had read a little about it before I got the car but now I've found lots more and I'm wondering if I want to just bring the car back and get my money back or go through and try to get it fixed. The car is in between warranties though. The 3 year 36k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired, but it's still under the power train warranty so I want to know if anyone can tell me if this would be covered under the power train warranty or if I'm just out of luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
