  1. I've been reading a lot about trailer hitches. I have the 2011 Limited. Should I go with an after market or just take it back to the dealer? It sounds fairly difficult having to lower the exhaust and modify the heat shield has anyone put one on themselves? Is it worth the savings do you think? Thanks!

I installed a CURT Class III Hitch - 2" Receiver Product #13067 that I got from Amazon for $140. Lowering the exhaust and modifying the heat shields were actually very easy - the hard part was cutting the lower part of the bumper to make room for the receiver (I think that only applies to the Sport model) and drilling holes for the third mounting screw. Took me about an hour to complete using the necessary tools, a couple ramps and my toolbox positioned under the vehicle for the lowered exhaust to rest on.

I used this video as a guide...

    Good luck!

  2. Welcome to the forum! Similar to you, I made a move from an 03 Expedition 5.4L to an Edge - and as much as I loved my Expedition, everything about the Edge makes it easy to get over it. Ride, comfort, technology, features, gas mileage, etc. You won't be disappointed. Congrats!

  3. ...or 1.9 for 60 if I purchased the Premium ESP 84/125k for an additional $1700

1.9% for 60 only if you take the Premium ESP? Did you even want the ESP? I don't see how a rate on a loan is dependent on add-ons you purchase. If that's the rate BOA approved you for, you should be entitled to it regardless.

  4. Do you get all available incentives with x-plan even if you don't qualify? So for excample, available incentives right now show 1,000 & 1,000 if you finance, $500 college, $500 for police - none of which I would qualify for since I plan to finance through bank.

If I go x-plan, would I get another $3,000 off the x-plan price?

Also, has anyone used the Bank of merica Zag price to negotiate but not purchase through BOA?

    Thanks

You can take advantage of available incentives in addition to the x-plan price. However, all the rules for the incentives still apply - the x-plan price does not automatically qualify you for the incentives.

  5. I have a 2011 Edge SEL. I plugged an iPod into the A/V connections yesterday, and the video starting playing, as expected.

However, as I drove away, the video continued to play (unexpected). Sometimes it stops the video when I am in gear. Other times it keeps on playing.

Anyone know if this is random, or are there scenarios whereby it keeps playing, even while driving?

    Ian

For me, video only plays while in Park, the moment I shift out of Park the video is blocked and a pop-up on the screen says something like "video enabled in Park only"

Lately my rear view camera stays on for 15-30 secs after I shift back into gear from reversing. I'm guessing that it's just part of the system being slow..or it cuts out when you hit a certain speed.

    M.

Used to have the same issue with my rear view camera too - when I had it at the dealership for my oil change, mechanic said it shouldn't do that, upgraded me from v2.4 to v2.8 and now the rear view cuts out immediately after shifting out of reverse. Oh, and other things on MFT/Sync worked better too thanks to the upgrade.

  6. From the manual...

"Traffic Preferences: The Avoid Traffic Problems setting allows you to set how you would like the system to handle traffic problems along your route. Choose ‘Automatic’ for the system to automatically reroute you to avoid traffic incidents that develop and impact he current route (no notification is provided). Choose ‘Manual’ for the system to always provide a traffic alert notification for traffic incidents along the planned route. You will have a choice to accept or ignore the notification before the route deviation is made."

So changing the setting to 'Automatic' will take care of the pop-up notification issue, however, you may unnecessarily and unknowingly be sent on alternate routes.

  7. Are you using an iPhone? I find my iPhone does this, but not my work-phone. I just turn off then restart the phone and that does the trick.

Also, others might ask what version of SYNC you are using.

Same issue with my iPhone 3GS - most of the time it connects just fine, but at least once a week, SYNC will not show any phone connected. That's when I have to go into my phone settings... general... bluetooth.... then connect (to SYNC) and I'm back in business. It's a little annoying, but nothing I can't manage.

    SYNC v2.8

    iOS v4.3.3

  8. how do you like the shade?,

I have the same one - been using it for about a month now. Works just fine and it's easy to put up and take down.

    Just two downsides:

    1. It takes a few more seconds to roll up than it takes to fold a foldable style shade

    2. It's so big, when I take it down, I have to bring it out of the car to roll it up

Neither of these are a big deal to me, and if it happens to be raining when I get back to my car, I could roll it up while in the car - it's just a lot easier doing it outside.

  9. I used to have the same problem with my old Expedition - usually happened after it sat in the rain, or if the air was misty. At first the squeaking would go away after running the engine for a few minutes. But every time it happened, I would have to run it longer or drive it longer to make it go away. It came to a point where it wouldn't go away at all. It was embarrassing driving around with a truck that sounded like a bird was living under the hood chirping away. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the belt under warranty.

A year or so later I went through this whole process again - replaced under warranty again.

The next time it happened, it was no longer under warranty, so I just sprayed some belt dressing on it every time - happened once/twice a year for 6 years until I finally changed the belt myself.

  10. I keep on hearing about x-plan but I don't know anything about it (have not purchased a vehicle for almost 12 years).

X-Plan is Ford's partner recognition program.

    https://www.fordpartner.com/partnerweb/login.do

It is for employees, retirees, spouses and other household members of selected Tier 1 suppliers, business partners, fleet partners and special organizations having a unique relationship with the Ford Motor Company.

If you don't fall into any of these categories, you can use my partner code to look at the pricing: XD307. You can use the pricing shown there as a target price when negotiating your purchase.

    Good luck!
