  1. Yeah, he asked what level I was looking for.

The do-it-yourself methods I've seen involve sanding and spraying from a can, or applying film-like window tinting (which is what you've done and show in the original post, right?)

Chad hasn't yet gotten back to me with a price for the tinting on Edge tails but another place replied this morning.

Their quote is $90 plus $20 for shipping. They also don't have Edge assemblies in stock so they too would require the lights to be sent (either off the Edge or purchased separately. At $300+ an entirely new set would be kind of pricey but would allow an owner to have the original untinted set on hand in case he or she needed to reinstall them. Also a new/second set would allow an owner to continue to drive their Edge while waiting the tinted set to arrive)

In their email reply this place stated a 2 day turnaround time not counting shipping. Their site says 3 days, possibly 4 if they're very busy.

Also, I see on this other site levels from light to medium to dark and includes options for light/medium and medium/dark... so there are obviously all sorts of levels available for all desired and to "match" all sorts of car colors.

Both Chad and this other place do very nice, professional work.

yes mine is just a film..

an idea would be for a group of us to buy a core set..split the 300 bucks ..say 5 ways..not too much OOP for each person..

only thing is..after everyone is done..what do you do with the last OEM core set? sell them on ebay? split the profit? hmmm..just thinking out loud..maybe the compnay..if the demand was high enough would consider buying a core set. I know I have seen 1 tail on ebay..

  2. There are laws about the tint to windows, I don't know what their is about lumen output of lamps. But worth trying to find out. I had a Pontiac Fiero once with dark tinted lenses from the factory. Lamps may need to be replaced is all. Kinda upsets me to see my small town pit-bull of a cop sitting along side the road with Limo-tint to his windows. If it is a RED glow, when lit, then a DARK color shouldn't matter at all.

They did look nice, and if the reflective properties still remain after tint, I'd assume it's all legit.

cops have the do as I say, not as I do..which is bullshit..tint is tint..cop car or civilian..its shouldn't matter.

as long as the retro red reflector still reflects it should be legal..on that all black..thats a different story.

  3. Well,

I don't understand half of what you are talking about, but here are some questions:

    1. I'm in New York. - is this something that you would send up here and someone else would install?

    2. What are the actual performance gains, in layman terms? Are we talking better acceleration? Higher top speed? Better handling, work with me here.

    3. What is the impact on the safety of the car? Does this reduce the lifetime of the vehicle or , more importantly, the safety of the vehicle in anyway?

    4. Finally, what does this cost all in and what is the process?

Frankly, I'd like to the see the following on my car and would be willing to pay for it:

    1. Improved acceleration

    2. Tighter, more responsive handling in turning, swerving

    3. Higher top speed (de-limited)

    4. Superior braking

    5. Unlocking of the SYNC system to play video and surf the net.

    Well......anyone?

    Thanks.

PS: I don't doubt you do what you do well - I simply don't understand it.

The SCT only improves 1 and 3 on your second list..or it should..it should be able to remove the speed limiter.

How an SCT handheld tuner works.

    There are two methods..

the 'normal' way of getting you custom tunes is by you buying the SCT and there is a computer plug under the dash. You plug it in, turn the key on but don't start..you get your stragey code and you would call Fred and tell him what it is..he will the make a tune to that stratagey and then send a file to you via e-mail and then you would download a program onto you computer call 'liveload' ver.3 and you would plug your SCT to your computer via a standard USB printer cable then open up live load. Once liveload is open you search for your file that you received in your e-mail and double click it..it will download into the SCT handheld tuner..you do this three time..1 time for each tune..it can hold three custom tunes. Once the tunes are load to the SCT box you will disconnect from you computer and plug it into the vehicles computer port under the dash..you will then select what you want to do..'load a custom tune' turn the key on and approx. 1 min later you will have a custom tune loaded in your vehicle with custom parameters..if applicable, larger tires for shift points, and speed limiter removed, then you will have a file for you vehicle that is based on the type of fuel you want to use..see above. Once you want to set the vehicle back to stock simply plug in the SCT to the vehicle computer and select return to stock..approx. 1 min later your vehicle is back where it started.

    hope this helps.

  4. Fred, i just wrote your phone # down...i will definitly be calling u to purchase this within the next 2 weeks. I do have 22" wheels with 305/40-22 tires though...can you adjust for that big of wheel/tire in the tune??

I am not Fred..but on my SCT on my F350 6.0L Diesel the SCT will calibrate the trans shift points for the larger diameter tires and wheels so that your shift points are correct..but as far as on my application and other as far as I know, an SCT X-cal cannot calibrate or adjust the actual speedometer.

I have been wrong once before. LOL

But it should also be able to read and clear DTC's, which is a nice option.

As far as tunes go Fred..how much would unlimited tuning run? I know I paid 400 for my SCT @ GoGoDiesel.com from Doug and that came with unlimited tuning..and its endless on the diesels..ya know..

I want one of these..I know the three tunes are great..but I know you will come up with a higher performance tune later that I would want but also dont want to spend 25.00 or 50.00 per tune if and when you come out with a new one.

I have seen your shelby on youtube..and its badass..9.57 is wicked.

    Thanks,

    Adam

  5. After doing a little searching for a better price I am reminded of my efforts.

I was initially looking for 22" wheels but quickly found that my financial situation dictated I go with a 20" model.

I actually came out very happy indeed with my choice and with the look of my Edge with the Zinik 20" set I chose.

With 275/45R20 the difference is 0.58% (from my stock 245/60R18s)

Speedo difference is 0.586% too slow. Meaning My speedometer reads 59.6 MPH when I'm traveling 60MPH. That was very close and the minor difference to the good side for me odometer-wise.

Looking at this particular site with the TSW wheels at exactly $400 each (what you said in your original post), the 20" version of the same TSW wheels are $280 each.

That's a pretty big difference in $, times 4... not to mention the $ difference in tires.

    Just a thought ;)

I really like the look of that TSW Montage!

yea..I know..the 22's just look sooo good..I mean dont get me wrong the 20'sw are good too..but I like big rims..LOL

  6. You asked for all opinions, so here goes. I think it's nuts to spend that much money to change brand new wheels and tires. I understand the desire and in most cases I think they do look good, but anything over 20" starts to degrade braking, fuel economy and acceleration because the wheels are too heavy.

It might be different if the OEM wheels were ugly or tiny, but they're not. Then again, it's your money - or should I say it's you and your wife's money.

actually the fuel economy on the highway should be better..considering it is 10.xx less revolutions per mile. and thats where most of the mileage is..I am not worried about the braking..my wife and I are very defensive drivers..so that wont be a big deal..I am going to weigh the stockers vs. 22's just too see exactly how much weight I will be adding..it probably wont be a whole heck of alot more.

I have an emergency fund..so i wouldn't be using my life savings or anything..I draw plans on the side and have a lil cash to play with..

so this post wasn't should I put wheels on it or not..just which ones.

  7. When you change Tire and wheel sizes do you consider the Odometer Changes? How about the rolling inertia created by a larger wheel? Are the Brakes able to handle the additional weight of a larger Wheel?

The Ford Engineers take into consideration all these items when they design the Tire Wheel Brake Package. I have always been weary of changing this

I am NOT fond of the 18" Chrome Clad Wheels on my SEL+ I would like to put some other wheels on but I am uncertain of the repercussions.

Should I stay with an 18 with the same offset? What do you all suggest in a 20 or a 22 maybe?

    SRE

if you go to the discount tire.com..you can do a side by side calculation..

    http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

the stock tire is a 245/60/18

    t

he tire I am going with would be a

    255/40/22

enter in those specs and see how close they are..probably the closest that you will find.

as for the weight..yes they are heavier..but the circumferenc is only 1.44" bigger..so it should not be that big of a problem..however if you add more rolling mass the brakes wont work 'as good' as they did stock. as for right now I dont think they make an upgrade kit yet.

my odo would only be off 1.01 mph at 65 mph..which is not bad at all..

07, I dont have kids yet..that is a ways away..I am gonna get wheels..just cant figure out which ones.

  8. yea..I know tirerack does that..BUT they only show you wheels that they sell..and its not realistic..ya a photoshop is more believable so to speak.

07..that sounds like a good idea..but I just don't really care for the stockers..they are OK..but honestly I like more wheel less tire.

so if you are liking the idea of black wheels ..does that mean you like the 22" black wheels I posted..or just black wheels on my edge in general..or if they are not stockers painted black..don't do black?

I love the TSW wheels..but damn..I like to have a lil' cash in hand after..and they will clean my clock..

Funny to see how times change..married now..out on my own..

When I was single living at home..I spent 3500 on my first set of 22's and then 5500 bucks on 24's for my suburban..now I don't even want to spend 2600 bucks..is this being wise and frugal or is it being a tight wad? LOL

I thought I was gonna like the new 20's from the factory..but after seeing them I am not too fond of them..I am at a loss..wish I could just find a really good deal on the TSW's..

  9. I am wanting to put 22's on the new edge..I had my mind totally set on the TSW montage in hyper black because its a simple clean wheel and by the picture..it looks like it would be really really close to matching the color of the Edge.. But after pricing them out..they are 400 bucks per wheel then about 250 bucks per tire.. so thats about 2600 bucks before tax and mount and balance..sooo I am weighing other options..I really like the black wheels mainly like them on a black vehicle..I am looking at the Fusion Flex in black..its a nice wheel..not quite as simple as the TSW..but I can get the wheels at wholesale price (friend of a friend) and get a real good deal on tires..probably get tires wheels lugs mounted and balanced for less the 2k. I am just not wanting to do chrome at all..dunno why..but im just not wanting that.

So after you look at the pictures tell what you think..spend the almost 3k on the TSW's or get the Fusion flex in black for a good deal.

here they are on a KINDA similar vehicle the CX-7 but the vehicle is black..obviously unlike mine..but I think they look good

and here is a side shot of my edge

    DSC05194.jpg

if anyone is REALLY good at photoshop..and could maybe..possibly..if its not too much trouble..put them on my vehicle that would be awesome.

Thanks and I am looking forward to the responses.

  10. yea..it will peel off..and you can re-apply it anytime..

its not the best flm I have ever seen, but its not the most expensive either.

I had some on my wifes IS300 that was a blue color..it was really thick..(it had a purpose) and it laid down better then this does..

I am gonna take it off Sat. and reapply it..I couldn't get all the wrinkles out and it was getting dark.

  11. Ok, I everything is working well on the hatch part. It must have been a fluke because after I had the car sit there for a couple of hours it closed and opened no problem. Plus a good thing happened, the dealership showed me, I can hand close it if I had to.

Love the car. Would change some things if they asked.

The funny thing is most of the complaints I have been hearing on the site, since the beginning, are actually true. I always just thought you guys were too particular. All in all, I am very happy.

The price was not good. First 2008 in this area. They got me good!

I have 18 wheels. (which I love) and no Navigation. Everything else is loaded.

They got me for 3000 down and $450 a month. Ouch!

I was so needy for the car, they knew they had me at the first Sync operation!

    sounds like a nice vehicle,congrats.

is it just me or isnt LOADED be with EVERY OPTION?

    like navi and 20's?
