  1. Sorry, but I don't need study data to confirm what I've personally witnessed over the last couple of decades. IMHO all vehicles should have DRLs. Full stop.

I also think all vehicles should have auto headlamps. If I had a dollar for every vehicle (mostly foreign I might add) that is driving around at dusk with no tail lamps on, well, I'd be wealthier.

  2. How does seeing a car hundreds of yards away help safety?

Wow. Normally I tend to agree with your slant on things, however blunt. But this comment leaves me scratching my head.

How the heck can some additional vehicle illumination NOT help in all kinds of driving? Something that makes your vehicle more visible can ONLY aid safety. To think otherwise is, to my notion, absolutely foolish.

Since we've had mandatory DRLs here for many years, when I visit my sister in the Midwest it strikes me immediately how helpful they actually are in all sorts of driving situations. Especially these days with an aging population with questionable vision and the omnipresent distracted driver.

  3. I've been leary about first year models since my factory ordered, fully loaded, 2010 GMC Terrain back in September 2009. It was my first brand new vehicle and was built then parked for over a month before being released. I had many issues with it - some major and others minor - and it cost me big to dump it after just a year.

To be honest, of all the vehicles I've owned over the years I would say my Edge was the best in terms of quality, squeaks, rattles and such. My MKX after 18 months and 12,000 km has an internal symphony of rattles - and the speaker grilles vibrate with any kind of bass when the radio is on. It's kind of a shame when the $20,000 rental Hyundai I had was so solid considering it was worth a third of what my Lincoln was. Maybe that's the downside to an older platform.

I have high hopes for the next MKX but I will only buy one if it has been out for a year or so.

  4. Actually it was the other way around - the FWD version came first at 365 then the F150 RWD at 420.

The reason is the FWD 6F55 tranny could only handle 365 lb/ft - the computer limited the torque.

Since the 6F55 can already handle at least 365 lb/ft there is no reason to limit the 2.7L EB to less than 365 hp.

10-4. Imagine 365 lb ft all available down low..... mmmmm. I'm excited for the next MKX with this engine (or something more powerful).

Just hope they screw it together better than the one I have... At under 6,000 miles there's more interior rattles, squeaks and pops than the 1990 Jeep Cherokee I used to have! My 11 Edge was definitely better assembled.

  5. But educated speculation since the F150 numbers have already been released. Edge version will be FWD and different exhaust and probably tuned differently but the F150 numbers would be a good guide.

    F150 2.7L EB is 325 hp/375 lb/ft.

Don't know about good. What did the RWD 3.5EB lose compared to the FWD 3.5EB? Something like 65 lb-ft?

  6. Hmmm... something doesn't add up.

    FMC press release:

Ford Issues Safety Recall for Certain 2012-2014 Taurus/MKS/Interceptor, Flex/MKT, Edge/MKX Vehicles in North America for Potential Halfshaft Disengagement

Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 92,000 (actual 92,022) 2013-2014MY Taurus/MKS/Interceptor sedans and Flex/MKT vehicles, 2012-2014 MY Edge vehicles, and 2014 MY MKX vehicles for a potential issue with the right-hand halfshaft. In some of the affected vehicles, the circlip that retains the right-hand halfshaft to the linkshaft may not have been fully seated during assembly. A halfshaft that is not fully seated may move outward over time. If the halfshaft becomes fully disengaged from the linkshaft, vehicles may experience loss of drive function. Additionally, this condition may result in unexpected vehicle movement if the gearshift is placed in Park without the parking brake being activated. No accidents or injuries have been attributed to this condition.

Dealers will inspect to verify the right-hand halfshaft is fully inserted and retained on the linkshaft. If the halfshaft is not fully inserted, dealers will replace the linkshaft and replace the halfshaft if it is damaged.

    Affected vehicles include:

    Taurus/MKS: 2013-2014MY vehicles with a 3.5L AWD powertrain built at Chicago Assembly Plant August 25, 2011 November 30, 2013.

Police Interceptor Sedan: 2013-2014MY vehicles with 3.5L GTDI AWD, 3.5L & 3.7L TiVCT FWD & AWD powertrains built at Chicago Assembly Plant August 25, 2011 November 30, 2013

Flex/MKT: 2013-2014MY with the 3.5L GTDI AWD powertrain built at Oakville Assembly Plant September 12, 2011 November 29, 2013.

Edge: 2012 2014MY with the 2.0L GTDI FWD powertrain built at Oakville Assembly Plant September 2, 2010- November 29, 2013

    Edge/MKX: 2014MY with the 3.5L & 3.7L TiVCT AWD powertrain built at Oakville Assembly Plant September 2, 2010 November 29, 2013

As of June 23, 2014, approximately 83,000 are in the U.S. and federalized territories (actual 83,250). Approximately 8,200 are in Canada (actual 8,173) and approximately 600 are in Mexico (actual 599).

    End quote.

Model year 2014 built between September _2010_ and November 2013 ???

Edit: the Transport Canada recall website indicates the recall includes my 2013 MKX. Since the Lincoln website appears to be US only, I cannot check via that method. Guess I will wait for the notice in the mail.

  7. I will take a 2015 Edge Sport with the Fusion vents any day over my 2013 Edge Sport with the chassis from 2006 and the laggy Microsoft MFT. I can't wait to place my order for the 2015 Sport. The 2015 checks most of my must haves, and Ford surprised me with the 2.7-liter V6 Ecoboost twin turbo with start/stop tech and can run on 87 octane. The electric sand has my name written all over it.

I don't believe the 2.7 gets start stop... Only the 2.0T. I'm a bit disappointed Ford didn't debut an updated MFT interface with the new Edge, seeing as it was the first to get it back in 2011 (I may be mistaken).

Hopefully the Sport will get the option of full leather, seeing as it'll be the only way to get the 2.7TT, as I'm sure some people won't like the seats.

  8. I don't post much, mostly read. But my 2013 Edge Sport makes same noise mainly going over uneven roads, speed bumps etc at slower speeds (40 mph) and slower. This noise is driving me nuts. Is there a fix for this or is the dealer going to tell me to live with it

I have sneaking suspicion my spare tire cover rattles around in the back over certain bumps. Maybe I should try attaching some Velcro to see if it helps.

The rear brake pad on my MKX lightly clunks and clangs when I climb into the driver's seat.

I don't recall seeing this old post, but my MKX does the same thing when cold. I chuckle because my Edge did the exact same thing. It's not serious, but I can distinctly hear it when I'm parked in the garage.
