  1. I was also given the ESP to shut me up. I tried but wasn't able to Lemon mine. The dealer I bought it from apparently didn't track all of my service visits and they didn't give me receipts because "it was warranty work". I didn't know until another dealer in a neighboring state told me what the original dealer was probably up to. By then it was too late and I had already gone over the 15,000 miles for my state's Lemon Law.

I contacted my state's Attorney General and Office of Consumer Affairs anyway and they offered to set up a mediation session but said that it was highly unlikely anyone from the company would respond.

  2. I agree. I like my Edge overall. But the SYNC/MFT system is the worst piece of technology I have ever encountered. I used to do alpha and beta testing for software that was less buggy than this. I have to reboot multiple times each month, which is especially a pain when you're driving and have to pull over and waste time for it to do its thing and then adjust all your settings again. A few months ago I spent 45 minutes in a rest area in Connecticut waiting for it. Awful. Just plain awful. Like you said, I cannot score it low enough.

Mine has been at the dealer for various MFT issues eight times (that I can remember) in the past 13 months that I've had it. Typically each visit is about three days. I used to call Tech Support a lot but their solution was always to reboot or pull the battery cable, so I gave up calling them.

My current outstanding issue that does not get solved with a reboot is with the Sirius voice commands (it doesn't recognize some channels by name). They told me that should be addressed by the end of the year. It's a known issue which 2013s also have (which seems kinda crappy to me that they ship products with known issues, but whatever) so hopefully it comes sooner rather than later.

  3. Yeah I did Google and I have seen people having problems with the factory installed version. But I was curious anyway since accessories.ford.com sells the rear and front systems (and there are after-market places like eBay and Amazon which also sell them).

So I thought I'd ask here in case anyone knew anything about parts or if wiring harnesses are already in place or any other info.

    Thanks.

  4. My MFT update flash drive came in the mail but it won't work. It gives me error messages telling me that the installation cannot continue. I called Tech Support and they had me do a Master Reset among other things and then had me try again but it still didn't work.

They told me I would have to get it done at the dealer. But my dealer has only one person who knows anything about SYNC so every time I bring it in it takes three days for them to do anything.

They connected me to Customer Care because I told them I shouldn't have to pay over a hundred dollars for a rental for the same problem I've had since I bought my Edge seven months ago. The Customer Care woman told me they wouldn't give me a free loaner car. I explained to her that in the first month alone I had my Edge it was in the shop three different times to fix MFT and each time was at least three days of paying for a rental at $35/day plus taxes and that I shouldn't have to pay for that again. She took my info and said she'd call back.

She called back about 10 minutes later (making it a point that she called back within the 10-15 minute promise that she made to me). She told me that since the MFT update is supposed to only take an hour, they won't give me a loaner car. I reiterated that the dealer only has one person to work on SYNC systems and that every time I've brought it into the shop in the past always took three days so I have no reason to believe that it would only take an hour, especially since it can't be done by flash drive. She then suggested that maybe I received a bad flash drive but I told her that I got this same error message when I tried the downloadable version from syncmyride. She then blamed my hardware and I pointed out that if it is my actual USB slots (which I know is not the case because I play music on two different USB sticks), it will certainly take more than one hour to fix/replace the hardware and then apply the upgrade but she disagreed and remained firm.

I am completely disgusted by this company. It is well-known that the system has been flawed since day one. I have already spent more money and more time than I should have to try to get it fixed and they won't let me use a car for free?!? Even if it does only take an hour like she swears it will, why not put your money where your mouth is?!? But no. All she did was tell me how sorry she was. But I have heard enough of that for the past seven months and I am tired of it. I just want this thing fixed.

This is my first non GM car ever and my first non Chevy in 12 years and I am regretting this move. Chevy's customer care was excellent to me. They gave me a loaner the one time in 12 years that I had to have warranty service done and they even gave me loaners when I got there late in the day for oil change and inspection stickers and they knew they wouldn't have me done before closing. Not to mention the fact that my Trailblazers cost less but had more features than my Edge.

  5. Check the owners manual for the correct explaination on this.

I did. This is copy/pasted from it (it has nothing useful to my question):

The heated seats will only function when the engine is running.

    To operate the heated seats:

Press the heated seat symbol to cycle through the various heat settings and off. Warmer settings are

    indicated by more indicator lights.

The heated seats will turn off after 15 minutes. If the engine falls below 350 rpm while the heated seats are on, the feature will turn itself off and will need to be reactivated.

  6. It is incorrect. If you look on the MFT screen in the Climate tab, there are 2 red lights on each seat picture. Press it once and both seat and seatback heat up. Press it again and the seatback heat turns off but the seat remains on. Press it again to turn off completely.

Yes, I see the two red lights but they are both on the bottom cushion and seem to only control the temperature for the bottom. I never feel anything in the seatbacks of either seat.

  7. Ultimately it's your decision.

That's the part that's killing me lol

I leased cars for about 15 years so I didn't care but I had no issues that I could tell by using any old car wash. Before that I had a car which had well over $10,000 worth of custom paint over the years (that's not even an exaggeration - rather than have patch-up work done, I would have the whole part stripped down and repainted) and it was also fine in regular brush car washes.

But after reading the owner's manual for my new Edge, I started to get a little paranoid because of the scare tactics in it to only use all Ford cleaning products all the time. Then I came here and practically felt bullied by the pros lol. So the task for me now is to try to figure out the differences between what I HAVE to do to keep my Edge in good shape, and what I should do if I want to be fanatical over it. I just want something realistic and perhaps in the middle of those two sides. And because I am on a fixed income for now, I can't go spending all kinds of money on specialized cleaning products just for the heck of it. I'll do what everyone agrees I have to, but I can't go crazy on that stuff.

  8. What do you guys think of this for a winter car wash? I used to have a classic car and used to take it here all the time: http://www.scrubadub.com/scrubadubdifference.html

(Available in Natick, Brookline, Roslindale, South Bay, Woburn, and Warwick RI.)

  9. Maybe you're misunderstanding what we mean by coin-op. We're talking about the open bays with a pressure wand, so you're basically pressure washing the undercarriage with clean water.

Doesn't get any better than that.

No, I do get that. I am just wondering if just plain water, even though pressurized, is enough to get rid of the caked-on salt build-up.

  10. I couldn't possibly recommend Optimum No Rinse enough. It's a rinseless car wash product and is PERFECT for washing your vehicle in the winter months. If you have heavy salt and sand build up, take it to your local coin op and simply spray down your vehicle. Bring it home and wash it with ONR. It's a very safe way to keep your vehicle clean during the winter.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-744800996428313622

In that video he uses the ONR on his wheels. Is that safe to use on Edge wheels?

  11. I just bought a Red Candy Metallic Edge in August so this will be my first winter with it. Since my outdoor water is shut down for almost seven months a year and the roads are awfully salty in the winter (I live at the bottom of a hill), I will have no choice but to go to a car wash at some point. You all have me scared after reading these 13 pages and I fear doing the wrong thing. I guess the lesser of two evils would be a brushless type, right? Are there different types of brushless systems and any type in particular I need to avoid more than others? And how often would you recommend washing it in the snowy/icy salty months?

Sorry for such a stupid question. I just want to be sure I am doing the least amount of damage possible (I was leasing Chevy's for the past 15 years and had no issues ever using regular car washes - not that I would have cared much anyway since I never planned on keeping them, but this is a whole new ballgame for me now).

    Thanks.

  12. First and foremost, DO NOT ever take your Edge through a car wash with brushes. They are absolute DEATH to your paint.

The right hand side of this panel is what it will make your paint look like.

And don't even take it to a touchless car wash either unless you can help it. They use very harsh detergents that will strip away any paint protection you have applied.

Take a read through the thread below as it will answer pretty much all of your questions. :)

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/5535-ask-a-professional-detailer/

Cheers and congrats on the purchase. :)

Thank you. After seeing that pic and after reading that detailing thread, I am even more worried.

  13. I got my Edge last month and today I read the owner's manual about washing/cleaning it and I am almost afraid to let anything other than their Motorcraft products touch anything.

It is the optional Red Candy Metallic paint and I have the vista roof. Realistically, how bad is it to take it through a regular brush car wash? What do I need to worry about? Should I get wax or not? Should I get Wheel-Brite or would that screw up the wheels as the manual seems to suggest? Can I use one of the sprays available to make the tires look wet and shiny?

On the inside, aside from the Motorcraft stuff they push in the manual, what do y'all have good luck with on interior glass and the roof and dash and touch-screen?

    Thanks.

  14. I have always had the same issue. A little annoying but no big deal. Odd thing though is it absolutely refuses to transfer my girlfiriend's and my uncles contact info. Out of like 130 people just those 2... the most frequently called.

I have all 630 Facebook and Twitter and GMail and Google Contacts in my Edge. Annoying. I have my phone set to show me only 149 of my most used contacts but the car doesn't understand this. I certainly do not need Twitter people in the car's phonebook (I don't have them in my phone's phonebook) and I don't need email addresses. But compared to all of the other problems I have with MFT, I don't care about this right now.

  15. Contents of an email I received from Ford regarding the "black screen of death". Hopefully usb problems will be cured by this update.

"I apologize for the issue that you are having with the My Ford Touch system in your vehicle. I have done the research and show that you have a very outdated version of the SYNC system installed. The most current version would be Gen2 2.11, and you are running Gen2 2.3. There has been an update released to your local dealership to correct the problems that you are having. I would highly suggest that you contact your dealership to set up an appointment to have Gen2 2.11 installed."

I have Sync VersionGen2 - V2.11 and my USB music still skips and I still have daily problems with USB album art and Sirius

  16. David - I have a 2010 SEL that started with a stock CD changer audio system (Pioneer OEM head - honestly rated at probably about 15 watts RMS into 4 ohms per channel). It sounded OK up to about 2/3rds max (with the tone controls set flat - if you boost the bass, the max clean volume setting will be lower). The volume of the stock system was almost enough for me, it was the poor sound quality (and lack of low end) that I couldn't take. The stock speakers are the weakest component, in my opinion. I replaced all door speakers as a first step and it helped quite a bit.

    good luck

    Linty

Yeah, I have noticed if I turn the bass and treble both way way down, I can get more volume before distortion. But it sounds bad.

  17. It could just be something on the screen getting illuminated because it is in the background of the software. I know that if I push in the right spot, it will say that I have turned on my AC seats which I don't have. Doesn't really turn anything on, just looks like it does.

AC seats??? Really?? Wow, I wish I knew that before. That would be cool (no pun intended)
