  1. I have the 3.5 engine (sorry to leave that out, I didn't realize the vehicle attributes are hidden in my profile, I appreciate the help and the least I can do is answer all of your questions!)
  2. Nope, unfortunately running without oil after an basic leak and before knowing about the oil, I was accelerating and felt "something" and now have what sounds like rod knocking when pressing the gas, but not while idling.
  3. Guessing I have a bad rod bearing, do I need to remove the engine to take off the oil pan to get a look a the bearing? I know it's not the "correct" repair, but has anyone tried to replace a rod bearing to buy a little time before spending $2k-$3k on a used/rebuilt engine swap? I'm in the Chicago suburbs, just looking for options on how I can get running for as little money as possible, and then what I should be looking for in a [edit: what I should be looking for in a mechanic.] 2012 Ford Edge Limited - 160,000 miles
  4. Okay, so I'm not sure it even matters because it sounds like we are talking gearing, but here is a breakdown of the different wheels so while the gearing might be different for the sake of being different, it wouldn't be because of the diameter of the tire, which is negligably different between 18" and 20" wheels (rims). I'm also speaking to the comparison of SEL upgrade pricing to the Limite upgrade pricing. The one variable there would be if you said the gearing doesn't change on an SEL with 20" wheels but it does change on a Limited with 20" rims. I'd love to track down the gearing information if possible. Wheel - Tire - Diameter - Width – Sidewall 17” SE Wheel – 235/65R17 – 29.027 – 9.252 – 6.013 18” Aluminum - 245/60R20 – 29.574 – 9.645 – 5.787 18” Chrome - 245/60R20 – 29.574 – 9.645 – 5.787 20” Chrome - 245/50R20 – 29.645 – 9.645 – 4.822 22” Darth Vader - 265/40R22 – 30.346 – 10.433 – 4.173 I enjoy the conversation and I think this is all great consolidated information for someone to stumble across in the future, but don't think I'm losing sleep over this. It's just money, right ;-). If my thinking is confusing, look at it this way. Let's say you want an SEL with 18" chrome and a Limited with 20" chrome (we all have the money for 2 new Edge's, right?). You can get the 20" chrome on the SEL and take the standard wheels on the Limited and it will cost you $893 and then you just switch the wheels up on the two vehicles and you have what you want. Or, you could pay $1437 in upgrades to get the 18" Chrome on the SEL and the 20" Chrome on the Limited from the factory. Same outcome, but the latter way $533 more expensive.
  5. I just got a 7yr/100k/$100 deductible Ford extended warranty from the dealer for $1180 but plan to cancel it, I was told I have 30 days to decide to cancel but I had to take the offer there. Hopefully I don't have issues cancelling and getting the money credited to the loan.
  6. I don't think the gearing would change, the outside circumference of the tire is the same on the 18" and 20" wheel so there aren't any other changes that need to be made to the vehicle.
  7. Sorry, I didn't explain my scenario well. There isn't anything extra in the SEL, the problem is on the price of the upgrade on the Limited. The upgrade to the 18" chrome wheel is already built into the base price of the Limited, it comes standard. So when you upgrade from the 18" Chrome wheel to the 20" Chrome wheel, I don't think the cost should be as high as it is. On the SEL, the cost difference between the 18" Chrome and 20" Chrome is only $217. On the SEL, the cost difference between the 18" Chrome and 20" Chrome is $761.
  8. Is this a valid annoyance? 2012 SEL comes with 18" painted wheels 18" Chrome upgrade - $676 20" Chrome upgrade - $893 2012 Limited comes with 18" Chrome Wheels 20" Chrome upgrade - $761 Can someone make me feel better about the 20" wheels being $217 more on the SEL but $761 different on the Limited? I tried to convince myself that the extra cost was the fact that it is changing the "standard" option on the Limited, but that honestly doesn't make me feel better. And yes, I apparently need my annoyances validated by the FordEdgeForum community...
  9. A better search helped me find a thread from a year ago where members were calling it a coupon, brochure cash, or brochure coupon. I don't have mine in front of me, I'm not sure where I picked up the term Private Cash but hopefully it helps some others save $750: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/5593-new-programs-us-customers-10410
  10. I don’t see any specific threads on the topic of Private Cash, so I thought I’d start one. I’ll just say what I know and others can correct me if I’m wrong. Ford sends targeted offers to individuals in the form of “Private Cash”. It cannot be transferred and it must be sent to you. That doesn’t mean you should just wait and hope it comes. I heard that Private Cash is sometimes given when your request a brochure, so I went to http://www.ford.com/brochures/ and requested three brochures “By Mail” to my office address and three to my home address. Office: I requested the Edge, Taurus, and Mustang and said I plan to acquire a new vehicle in 0-30 days. I received the brochures and there was nothing inside (listed was the standard rebate and financing for me). Home: I requested the Edge, The New Taurus, and Mustang but I had No Definite Plans to acquire a new vehicle. In both the Edge and the Mustang brochures I was given $750 in Private Cash (meaning I can get $750 off, not $1500). I hate to waste the paper of requesting multiple brochures (the limit is 3), but $750 was too much to not at least try. Sometimes the private cash will only be good on one specific car and other times it will be good for most Ford vehicles (some exclusions though). Good luck and report back with what information you give and whether or not you receive anything. You can do this even if you have a factory order, I placed my factory order about a week ago and didn’t receive the Private cash until last weekend, but it wouldn’t get applied until you take ownership anyway. Now I just need to take ownership before the Private Cash expires...
  11. I also love all of the random stories from dealers. One dealer told me last Thursday that Ford "sweeps" the orders weekly on Thursday and that if I ordered my order wouldn't go out until the next Thursday. I also would probably not get the Edge until January. Thank you to all the honest dealers out there, but it has to be hard when you hear BS going from other dealers to customers. I can tell you from the customer side that I don't know what to believe and just assume that everyone is wrong :-). It really is unfortunate.
  12. That sounds great. I just ordered a Limited FWD last night (order went in today) and the dealer said that he could get a FWD scheduled immediately, so I'd get it much sooner than an AWD. I figured I'd expect the worst but it looks like your experience was good with getting the FWD Limited fast.
  13. I've gotten some internet quotes on inventory Edge models and some general offers. It seems like the best "offers" have been to give me a price $300 below invoice before incentives. I'm looking at ordering a 2012 Limited with Driver Entry, Vision, Tow, and Navigation (or possibly a Limited with 302A + Tow). Would $300 below invoice be good pricing on a 2012? Should I be looking to negotiate differently based on what options I am adding or that I am not getting a base model? What can I expect during "actual" negotiations, should I be ready for the sales rep to change his offer after I get in and get my trade-in appraised? On a side note, I have no plans to tow but someday might want a trailer hitch for a bike rack. Is it worth it to get it now or should I just add it on later with an aftermarket hitch? I have no problem working on cars. As a second side note, does anyone value the HID Headlamps? It's a given that I'm getting the DE, Vision, and Navigation, but I'm not sure it's worth $1538 for the Vista Roof + HID headlamps (the 301A package in addition to the other options) and then if I did that, I'm not sure it's worth $938 for the Adaptive Cruise (the 302A package in addition to the other options above the 301A).
