  1. To start with I am not a mechanic but I was able to successfully remove my alternator and put in a new one- was unable to find any good directions online so am posting this in hopes I can help someone else having the same problem. Steps for removing alternator for 2007 Ford Edge 1) Disconnect battery ground cable. 2) Loosen band clamp and remove air filter element, tray and inlet snorkel. 3) Remove bolts, disconnect wiring harness, remove upper radiator hose, Drain coolant from upper radiator hose in a clean pan. Then remove cooling fan assembly, wiring harness was connected to top of cooling fan and required tape cut to separate from fan and then moved wiring harness towards engine to allow gap for cooling fan to come out. The cooling fan had one small hex bolt on each side and one electrical wiring connection which after removed was able to lift one side vertical and out and then whole fan came out. 4) Rotate accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and position accessory drive belt aside. The accessory drive belt tensioner accessed from above has a notch that a wrench can fit over, once put wrench on it pulled back towards me was then able to remove belt from alternator. 5) Disconnect alternator electrical connectors. In order to access the alternator mounting bolts I had to also disconnect the hose to the antifreeze storage tank. I was able to use a ratchet to remove the mounting bolt underneath the alternator (access from above) - bolt doesn’t need to come all the way out just enough to detach back side of alternator. The top mounting bolt also can be removed with ratchet, once the bolt has been loosened on the top mounting bolt will then need to remove the threaded stud, I found that a 7mm socket fit to remove the stud. Once the bottom mounting bolt was loosened and the top stud removed was able to wiggle the alternator out from above.
