  1. I'm new to this forum but if I'm perceiving the info properly, it looks like you all are driving 6 cyl. FWDs. That said, what's your best gas mileage? I presently drive an 02 Jeep Liberty which I dearly love. The max. hwy efficiency however is about 21 mpg. I just need better mpgs. So, although I'd dearly miss my 4x4 Libby, I'm looking at the edge. I gota say though that the AWDs are a bit high and their mpgs aren't too much better.

If I moved over to FWD things would be better. And if I went with the new turbo charged 4 cyl. I'd immagine the hwy mpg should be even better. Have you heard anything about the 4 cyl FWD Hwy mpgs? I'd appreciate any comments.

  2. with our 2011 SEL AWD I can get 24 on a pure highway ride driving ~65mph, no back roads no lights. Once you introduce and variability in speed and it drops to 19-21 depending on terrain.

My sincere thanks to all responders. Are you all driving the ecoboost engines? It seems like the "ecoboost" engine has the best ratings for a 6 cylinder AWD vehicle.I'd say the responces sound encourgaging. Would you all do it again?

  3. Had a few chances to drive the 11 SEL FWD in some heavy snow in the last week. Seems to do pretty good and the stock tires do a good job. Not sure I'm crazy about the anti-wheel spin feature but I need to give it a little more saddle time. Not sure how this system works but I know it can be disabled. Can anyone explain how it works? Does it cut fuel or spark?

    Fish,

Would you buy a FWD? Sounds like the fuel efficiency might be better. With gas constantly going up it's a factor for me. I'm torn though since I've been driving a Jeep Liberty for 9 yrs. Its been wonderful and really goes great in snow. The last FWD I drove was my old Dodge Caravan which wasn't bad but definately not a Jeep. I'd appreciate your comments. I just don't know.

  4. My sport AWD is averaging around 18mpg 90% city (3.8 mile commute to work) and 10% highway. Long trips on the highway i get around 24-25mpg. Whats funny is my 2007 dodge caliber RT AWD i traded in was rated very close to the same milage im getting with almost 1/2 the power and 1000lbs less weight.

So, that's 24 - 25 hwy on dry roads? Or does it reall matter? Would you buy another Edge? Thanks.

  5. I'd imagine the mileage for the 2012 is the same as 2011 since nothing major has changed. The AWD is considered full-time (since there's no way to disengage it) but technically it doesn't route power to the rear wheels unless it senses wheel slippage, so most of the time by far it's a FWD vehicle dragging around a few hundred extra pounds of AWD equipment. However, if you need the AWD it's an awesome system on the Edge. It was very sure-footed last winter in all of the snow we got, I was very impressed.

As far as mileage, I get about 19 city / 22 mixed / 24-25 hwy with my AWD. You can check what others are getting in the "real world" on Fuelly: http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/edge

    Edit: here's my Fuelly badge:

So then, would you still get 24 - 25 if traveling on the hwy in the snow?

  6. I'm thinking about buying a 2012 AWD but need a clarification... Is the AWD full time AWD or part time? Anyone care to comment on their MPGs? Anyone have any info on how the FWD is in the snow? I've been driving Jeeps for many years and although I dearly love them, the high costs of gas is forcing me to consider alternatives. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks.
