  1. You're talking yourself out of an excellent lighting upgrade.

I did aftermarket hid cars on my last three vehicles. My first was in my parking lot in front of my first apartment (2001!).

You don't need any tools. On some kits, the 9006 bulbs are a bitch to get in, but others have reported that the 9005 bulbs are much easier (no difference in performance). The only extra things you need are 3M dual lock fasteners (high strength Velcro) and some zip ties).

This assumes you go with a 35w kit and no harness. It's completely plug and play (30 minute job).

If you decide to go with a wire harness/relays then you only need a wrench (adjustable) to loosen the battery terminal connections in order to secure the wire harness.

It's so much easier than you think. 12Edge did an elaborate setup (which looks great BTW). I took the easier method and purchased the TRS morimoto kit, which includes everything you need (and is fantastic quality).

We can all walk you through it. It's worth an hour (being conservative) and $120 (max, there are cheaper kits) for the HUGE lighting improvement.

Thanks for the pep talk..............I can do it, once I have the right gear................sounds like the best solution might be the TRS morimoto kit and follow 12Edge's instructions. I just tried to find his instructions and can't locate...................can someone give a link so I can print the his instructions off?

  2. If you don't want to do any work then a HID upgrade is probably not for you. No matter what you have to mount a ballast and route the wires to and from it for the bulb/power. I think most of the direct plug in systems are having difficulty igniting so the only choice is to run a direct to battery wire and use a relay which means you have to route those wires from the battery/fuse box to each side which means a long wire across the front.

Basically, if you want an effortless upgrade.... forget it. I did a full write-up on my upgrade on this board and you will see to do it VERY well takes time. If I just half assed it then it would still have taken a couple of hours.

Thanks 12Edge.................I'm just not equipped to do this kind of work (no garage..........no real tools.........no competency), so I'm glad I asked the questions...........

I may purchase the parts and find a respected electrics shop and pay to have them installed, so just finding the best solution is a step forward for me.

  3. Sorry, but anybody buying a new car as an "investment" is setting themselves up for disappointment. If you buy a new car, don't even look at the value or think about selling it for 3 or 4 years.

Even after 3 or 4 years, your heart will be broken..........

  4. I've been planning to order a loaded Edge Limited and now am starting to think a loaded Mazda CX-7 might be what I should get.

The Mazda has a racier look to it..............

I know I'll pay a little more for premium gas, but is that the only drawback?

    opinions please:

  5. Thanks for the thoughts so far, everyone.

Here are the lists of optional equipment I used for the Limited vs SEL:

Limited: 58Q: Navigation, 60E: Interior Appearance 85B Sirius 16W All Weather Mats

Edmunds says my buying price would be $31,302

SEL: 58Q Navigation 65L Premium Interior 64P Premium Painted Wheels 66B Sync 916 Audiophile System

85B Sirius 16W All Weather Mats

Edmunds says my buying price would be $30,804

Question: Will I be happy with the SEL?

  6. I just used Edmunds.com to price out a loaded Edge Limited as well as an SEL with very similar equipment. The main reason for this is to get an SEL with the Premium Painted Alum wheels rather than the fake "Chrome Clad" wheels on the Limited.

The SEL comes in about $500 less than the Limited.

If I'm happy with the configuration of the SEL am I forgetting something else that I might regret once I get the SEL?

  7. My wife ordered a red Edge with every option except the red insert seats. It wasn't so much the red as it was she didn't want black leather interior. She's had a couple past cars with black leather and she felt it made the interior too warm in the summer. She ordered hers with the light stone interior instead. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you like the red leather inserts go for it.

    TL,

I've had black leather for the last 10 years...........living in Michigan, I guess there aren't too many days when the seats get too hot...... :yup:

  8. Welcome, DPM; do you have a name?

Feel like helping me with some Edge parts?...as in all the garage/service/wiring manuals...such as what are their titles, PNs, and retail prices? And then your real prices?

There was an announcement a month or so ago that the Edge would have some custom parts available from the dealers. Have they been announced and can you give prices. I'm thinking grill and wheels............

  9. I have been living the last 4 years with no integrated compass and outside temp displays on my 2005 Escape Limited. I am planning to buy an 2008 Edge with Nav and Sync......probably a Limited..............

I just went through the Edge brochure and could find no mention of compass or outside temp display......

Does a loaded Edge have these displays?

  10. The read Orbitcast.com daily (website for strictly satellite radio). There have been several discussion/articles about this and the general consensus is that there will NOT be an integrated receiver at this time. The major thing the two companies are working on is the pricing and channel selections available for the different "ala carte" offerings they will have for each service.

I have had Sirius for over 3 years. Other vehicle has XM (had it since March 07). The "talk" shows pretty much are available on both services. I have a very wide, eclectic taste in music and the offerings on XM don't compare to Sirius.

Thanks for the solid help on this. I guess I should just relax and enjoy the sirius.....thanks again

  11. That is a question you need to research on the internet. How would we know?

I know this, my Sat. Reciever will NOT pick up XM. so I guess I'll just be SOL.

I am hoping that there is an "inside" person from Ford monitoring this forum who may have some insight.

I guess you are not that person :)
