  1. I was getting some noise from brake area on my 07 edge, wasnt constant but usually when i was driving for 10 minutes or longer. Just got back from service shop , not ford, and was told my brake pads were only about half worn but by rotors were bad and was told that ford uses thin cheap rotors to save cost. He is gonna replace four rotors with new and good quality rotors and all new brake pads with lifetime warranty for $584. Has anyone else had to replace their rotors and am i getting hosed or is this possible. I need to mention my mileage is 40,000.

I just replaced my rotors. I replaced them with Wagner rotors ($60 each) and Wagner Thermo pads ($60). This is not a big job to do yourself. It is pretty simple if you have the tools. The original pads looked pretty good after 50,000 miles, but the rotors were warped. I never have rotors "turned". It is cheaper to replace them. If you dont want to do it yourself, it appears that he his going to charge you about 200 labor.

  2. I picked up the 2007 Edge SL+ from the dealer on October 1. Since then I have put 17000 miles on it (I am in the medical sales business covering 3 states). I changed the oil at 800 miles (don't trust the factory oil) and every 5000 miles (not 7500 like the manual suggests). Always Mobil 1 5W-20 and a Mobil 1 filter.

I had an 01 Lincoln LS that I put 130,000 miles on with the normal wear-outs and repairs. Considered the MKX, but the price differential was just too great (I purchase FMC products under my fathers retired Ford purchase plan).

So Far So Good. I had to have the roof buffed by the dealer due to a crummy carwash, but that is it.

FAST, ECONOMICAL, and QUIET. . . .Love this Car.

  3. Took my new Edge in for its first bath yesterday (my mistake for not washing it myself, have learned my lesson). After getting home, I noticed that the front, hood, windshield, and roof had been terribly scratched, in some cases down to the primer. I am certain that I would have noticed this before the wash, and since I have been the only one driving it, I am sure that it did not happen while driving. It is obvious to me that it happened at the wash, but I cannot prove it. I don't even know how it could happen. I am guessing that perhaps the sponges picked up some ice, rock, etc. and beat on the car. Obviously, the car wash owner is not convinced of this. I took pictures of ice sticking to the sponges, and of the damage in case I have to bring them to small claims court.

Just a few questions for anyone who might be kind enough to help:

    1. Has anyone had any experience with this or any ideas what might have caused it?

    2. Has anyone fought a car wash for damages? Any advice?

    3. Any advice on repainting the hood. I have heard that repainting is never as good as factory, and will fade or not match. I have also heard, however, that this is no longer an issue with new technology. If new painting is not as good, perhaps I should learn to live with the scratches.

    4. Should I go to a Ford dealer with a body shop, or an independent body shop?

Thanks for any help, I'm pretty upset about this and hope to get it fixed soon.

  4. Has anyone seen a decent set of REAR bumper guards for the EDGE. I have been "bumped" twice in parking lots resulting in fracture of the rear bumper shroud. Criminals left no name or number so I had to Pony-up the 500 deductable for a 700 repair.
