Only when I need to, on a hill pointing up or down.

On my first new car, 1972 Toyota Corona with 4 speed, I used it all the time because of the manual tranny. It eventually stretched the cable. Ever since then, I hesitate to overuse the emergency brake.

That's great! We had a 1974 Toyota Corona 4 speed. It was poop brown. LOL The dash was cracked from the sun, so my dad put faux fur on it! Great memories!

  2. I have basically a similar issue. Rear left caliper is leaking (as confirmed by the dealer today). The brake goes basically to the floor, but car will still stop. If it's pumped one or 2 times, the pressure temporarily comes back for about a second, then back to the floor. I'm not driving it and left at the dealership.

My question is, what determines when the brake light indicator goes on? I would think with a fluid leak (or even when I needed the brake booster replaced), that a light on the dash would appear alerting there's a brake issue? The only time the brake light is ever on is when I use the emergency brake in the driveway when it's parked.

I have a 2012 Edge limited with approx 154k on it.

    Thx.

  3. Mine is a 2012 with 150k miles on it. The grid lines have been gone for many years. The dealer flashed the software and they came back for a few weeks only to disappear again.

My camera will do one of 5 things:

    1. work as designed (minus the grid lines)

    2. display the image upside down

    3. screen will flash (like it can't catch up to showing the image)

    4. Go totally black with a yellow triangle - says "contact dealership"

    5. Or not work at all. The screen just shows all the normal options - phone, nav, radio, climate

At this point, since it still works "some" of the time, I'm not willing to invest in a new camera, nor do I want to tear into it myself.

Good thing I still know how to use my side mirrors. ?

  4. Hi there.  Here is a thread where this was discussed and I was able to fix it. Now, with that said, a year later to the exact date, it happened again.  :banghead:

Hot on the driver's side, cool on the passenger's side.

I'm glad I didn't have to search too deep to find what I did before, as I'd forgotten.

I hope this trick works again like it did last July.

  5. I have a 2012 Edge LTD with the dual zone climate with 106k miles. I also had the issue of blowing hotter than hot air on the driver's side, and cold on the passenger's with the AC on Max. Thanks to this thread, I was able to try the recommendations here. I unplugged the green connector with the car off, plugged back in and turned car on. Turned on AC, still the same result. Next, turned car off, then unplugged connector, and started car. Turned AC on, no changes. Turned AC off, car is still running. Plugged the green connector back in, saw the rod move once I plugged it back in. Turned AC back on and it worked! :) We'll see how long it lasts. Thank you everyone!

  6. I have a 2012 Edge and had the same issue. The passenger accordion rubber piece would flap and make noise when I had the roof popped open. Also, the rubber piece would actually slide in the rails when the roof was retracting I dealt with it for a while. Next time I had the oil changed, I had the dealer take a look. He did something to adjust it, but it was really the same issue, no change.

Several months later, I retracted the roof and the rubber went back with it. Then I closed it, and the rubber was all wadded up in the front part of the rail. Basically, I ended up having the dealer replace the seals. It was pretty expensive, but for as much as I paid for this car (like others), the last thing I want is the roof to start leaking and ruin the headliner.

  7. I have this too on a 2012 Edge Limited. It's on the driver's side and pops out about 1/4" inch. I regularly push it back in, but the service guy at Ford showed how pushing on the lower front bumper - like wind if you were going down the road, makes it pop back out. It's the way the clip was designed. My other option they told me was ford could replace the bumper cover under warranty... but I would be worried the paint won't match. I like the epoxy idea.

I'm going to ask about it again when I take it in for the oil change @ 25k miles.

  8. I have a 2012 Ford Edge Limited and the exact same thing is happening! I have 24k miles on it and it's been like this since at least 10k ago. I asked the dealer and they said the clip was not manufactured right and wears out? The option I was provided was to have a new bumper cover installed, but then I would be concerned the paint wouldn't match up.

I'm going to ask about it again when I take it in for the next oil change. Just curious, do you hear any rattling (plastic sound) or vibration on the driver's side going down the freeway? I don't know if they are correlated, but it's annoying and seems to have gotten worse. I used to hear it only when it was windy on the freeway - getting the cross wind, but now I hear it almost all the time at 50mph+ speeds. I have not brought the rattling up before with the dealer, but will be doing so on next visit.

  9. In my initial tests of the Edge I first had a 2011 Sport out for a test drive, then a 2012 Limited - there was a very very noticeable difference in interior sound level between the two, with the '12 Limited being much quieter. I'd chalked it up to the different engine/tires on the Sport, but when I mentioned it in passing to the salesman he said Ford had made a running change (he wasn't sure if it was beginning with late 2011 model year builds, or at the beginning of the 2012's) on the Limited's to include the same level of sound insulation as the Lincoln MKX. Whatever the full story is, I agree that the sheer quietness of the newer Limited's interior at highway speed is dramatic, and one of the main reason's I went with it over that earlier Sport model.

Thank you for explaining. I think I'd also read online that the 2012s had some additional soundproofing done in the A pillars upfront, so maybe that too helped with it being more quiet.

  10. The correct FoMoCo piece should indeed say "SoundScreen" - it's at the bottom of the glass on the driver's side (see below).

P.S. the only reason I knew about this at all was prior to buying the car, the salesman had pointed it out as one of the improvements they'd made with the Edge. So compared with the results you found above with a generic part, maybe he was even telling the truth LOL.

I wondered what the "soundscreen" meant on the windshield. I thought maybe it had to with the little material shield that pops up with the sunroof.

Can you elaborate a little more about what your sales guy said?

That was the reason I bought the 2012 Edge as it's so quiet on the freeway. I'd rented one (on accident, was supposed to be a Fusion, but they were out) and fell in love with how there was no road noise. I really didn't know cars could be so quiet.

  11. you did pretty good but you can do better by taking the purchase agreement to your bank and have them refinance it @ the 2.9% you were pre-approved for. win-win for you, you got the extra ford rebate and lower interest rate. i did this.

I did too with mine. I originally financed at 5% for 72 months through Ford to get the $1000 cash back savings. Then refinanced for 2.9% for same term at my credit union.

  12. My window sticker does say All Weather Mats - $100 (Canada pricing!) and came with them.

    Useless in Toronto though.

It has a cut in the middle between gas and brake pedal, so one snow fall/ salt on the road, you'll have salt crust everywhere.

Yes, that's what my 2012 $75 ones have from the factory. And that's exactly what happened when we had some snow/salt. So, for now, I have towels over them that go clear up under the pedals and all the way back to where the seat bracket is and across the full width of the driver and also another one for the passenger floor. It looks like an old lady's car with the towels, but at least they are dark.

In my opinion, they are too small for the floor area. I'll be looking at maybe something frome Weather tech or other brands. I like the whole area to be covered, salt or dry. It just keeps all the small stones /debris from getting in the carpet.

  13. Curious where you bought your 2012 Limited? I got my 2012 Limited from Jim Keim Ford and do have problems with my liftgate also.

Hey... sorry for the late reply. I got it from Beau Townsend Ford in Vandalia.

I have a friend who is looking at one at Germain Ford in Dublin. I told her about the lift gate issue. She mentioned it to the Sales guy there and he told her that I should be getting and SD card sent to me in the mail to fix it.

I should know more in about a month when I go in for the first oil change. I'll be sure to post what I find out.

  14. From what my dealer told me, Ford thinks that the program update might be out within a few weeks. As soon as I hear, I'll let you know.

I have some good buddies that live in Northfield, Sagamore Hills (Cleve 'burbs). Some real sweet area, and prices for the homes make

a peerson wanting to leave (NJ), the wife say's NO WAY JOSE !

Great news! Thank you. I thought of this thread the other night while trying to shut it in my driveway. 5 times before it finally shut. Now that there is blizzard like winds blowing, I would have really been irritated standing in the cold fooling with the liftgate.

  15. I bought the Husky all weather mats for my new 2012 Edge. The passenger side fits great, the drivers side not so great. There are a couple of plastic floor studs / carpet retainers on the floor that hold the Ford carpet in place. If you pull off the carpet the studs stick up into the back of the all weather mat and you have a couple of very annoying bumps there. I ended up leaving the carpet in place and putting the all weather mats on top so the studs / retainers wouldn't be so obvious. I assume that the Ford brand would have been designed for these two studs.

I have the stock weather floor mats in my 2012. I hate how there is that slit in the top of it sorta under where the brake pedal is. Salt and misc stuff is already now on the carpet. I am thinking about getting a diff mat/mats for up front.

  16. The "pinch strip", is the rubber gasket aqround the opening. Found out from my dealer today, this effected model years up to '11, and for the 12's they changed it, but there are issues with the '12's not closing, and Ford told the tech at my dealership, that the program for the liftgate is being rewritten to correct the problem of not always closing. My dealer did do an adjustment on the rear latch, and so far all is okay !

Great! Thank you for the information! I will be sure to advise my tech of this when I go in. Hopefully in a couple months when I need to take it in, the program will be ready for me to get updated.

  17. This also is happening to me, tonight actually. I have a 2012 Limited. Tonight, I got out stuff out of the back, hit the button in the back left cargo area, stepped back and over to the left, only to watch it come down, almost latch and lift back up. So, I repeated same process, only this time, stepped straight back from the lift gate, and it went down and back up. Said a few curse words, and then the 3rd time, used the key fob and it went down and stayed latched.

It happened over the holiday. I was showing some family members how it worked and that this was a feature I wanted, and it did it then too! How embarassing. It did it right after I first got the car too. I thought it was user error, but now I know it isn't.

It also did it to me several other times/places. It's one thing if it happens in my driveway at home, but being out and about at night/public areas, I gotta stand around and make sure it's going to latch before walking away. Not very safe.

I have about 1200 miles on it and will be asking the dealer about it when I get an oil change at 5k.
