  1. there is a latch behind all 3 rear seating positions, well there is on my 07 anyways.

fyi if anyone else wants to do this on the passenger side of the armrest hinge there's a plastic cover, pop that off and remove a torq 45 bolt and the armrest comes right off.

Our Britax car seat back actually fits perfect in the space that the armrest previously took.

  2. Our child is now tall enough that we have to turn the car seat to face forward, unfortunately it hits the center headrest which appears to not be removable

So I'd like to remove the center armrest completely and install the carseat. Does anyone know how this comes off?

I don't want to install the carseat in any place but the center position, this is not an option.

  3. We recently started experiencing a noise on our Edge (2007 SEL AWD with 20K miles) similar to what a mud tire on a 4x4 sounds like coming from the rear. We took it in to the dealer and by the parts list it looks like they replaced the hub and wheel bearing. It was covered under warranty, no issues there. I've never seen a wheel bearing fail that soon on any vehicle I've ever had. A sign of the times? cheaper quality bearings or just a random failure?

  4. I noticed burnt looking sockets when replacing a burnt out rear lamp. I notified the dealer at the next service and they replaced them, no questions asked.

    update

While replacing a tail lamp on the other side this week I noticed the same situation. Out of curiousity I opened the side that was recently replaced and see that it's discoloured again as well. This is less than 3 months later

We spoke to the service manager about it and he tells us it appears to be normal for that lamp/socket. It doesn't burn or melt, just discolouration.

Seems odd to me, I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Being an electrician by trade, discolouration from heat on an electrical connection is never considered "normal"

  5. as for the color wire to get power for the input box, I am pretty sure I explained above that I tied the blue and red together from the box and then tied those 2 to the red power wire that came at the end of that camera wire bundle - power viola to the box. Since the camera was already powered back at the rear reverse light, that red power wire that came off my camera end supplied the boxes power. That worked slick and allowed me to not have to search out the power up front for the reverse lamp since I did it back at the lamp.

am I missing something or by wiring box to the reverse light, won't you only be able to watch your DVD player (or whatever auxilary video input) when the car is in reverse?

  6. We have zero issues with the airflow or cooling either. Our last roadtrip, the temp averaged between 35-42C (95-107F) and the fan was on low most of the time. That's with 3 adults, a baby and the car loaded to the roof with luggage and stuff.

If you can't feel air coming out, it's a problem with your Edge, not all Edges.

  7. I just went and tried again.

When I put it in reverse and back up close to something (bike rack isn't on right now) it beeps. Nothing shows on the display center and pressing the reset button does nothing.

The only way I can make it stop is to scroll through the menu and manually turn the feature off. Then it's on again the next time I start it up. This I don't have an issue with. I just want to be able to press a button and turn it off quickly when I need to.

    My Edge is a 2007.

Hopefully it's an easy fix to an annoying issue.

  8. I have an issue with the reverse sensor disable feature on our Edge. We use a hitch mount bike rack and it's on the car 90% of the time. The reverse sensors (parking assist) detect the rack and activate the warning beeper whenever we shift into reverse.

I've discussed this previously on this forum and received different replies.

Basically I can go into the info center and disable the feature. This is a pain scrolling through the menu to turn it off. Not only that, every time I restart the car it defaults back to being on.

Another user on this forum says he can press the reset button to temporarily turn it off. I have this on my F150 too and it's a great feature, but it doesn't work on my Edge.

I asked the dealer and they said the only way to disable it was by going through the menu. They didn't buy into "but a guy on the internet said it should shut off with the reset button"

If I could ask a huge favor to anyone with a few free minutes to check their reverse sensor for me? Basically back up to something close enough to make it beep, then press the reset button to see if it stops.

    Thanks a bunch!!

    Dave

  9. Wow - you're correct. The sensor does default back to ON when you restart the vehicle. This is definitely a bug in the software.

However, please note that all you have to do is hit the Reset button when you put it into Reverse to turn off the sensor. So, in effect, there is a dash button to hit.

I've tried that and it didn't work on our Edge...hmmm

  10. We've tried many, many times to shut the sensor off full time as we have a hitch mount bike rack. No matter what we've tried, the sensors are activated the next time we start the vehicle. The dealer confirmed that there is no long term shut off feature.

It's a real pain scrolling through the menu everytime. My F150 has a dash mounted button that makes it much easier.

  11. I agree with the others, it's neither cold air or ram air but rather a pipe with an air filter on it. I doubt you'll gain mileage since it would appear you're most impressed with the sound, something that's only acheived by putting your foot in it. Back it the day we used to just flip the air cleaner lid upside down for the same effect. Without actually testing the airflow, air temp etc. you likely won't know if it actually increases performance/mileage or decreases them.

Like I said, equivalent to what we used to do as kids, flip the air cleaner lid upside down and punch holes in the exhaust pipe and think we had a hot rod.

  12. From what I have read, yes, they can see you have made a modification.

So by that logic, shouldn't any modification/tampering to the system by an unauthorized party have a possible effect on the warranty?

They don't have to be able to see what you've done, just that it's been tampered with.

That's a slippery slope to play with in the warranty period of a new model of vehicle in my opinion.

  13. I have a question for those that possibly work at a service department.

When you plug the car in and scan the OBD for error codes, does it show that the programming has been modified? Meaning, if you use an aftermarket tuner then remove the tune when you put take it in for service, sure the dealer might not see the tune, but can they see that it's been modified in some way? I would think if it can show a history of error codes it would show a history of modifications too.

  14. Tiffany thanks for initiating this forum. I monitor several webpages on behalf of Ford and I hope you don't mind me adding a comment. I'm forwarding this thread to the proper departments for review. There is a lot of good feedback here and we do appreciate your comments. Design changes to the 2008 Edge, such as the availability of power assist rear door, were influenced by owner feedback. Autodimming rearview mirrors are standard on the SEL & Limited editions and optional on the SE. A rear cargo management system is optional for all Edge models. The speed control can be disengaged by pressing the brake pedal or pressing the off button. Finally, a Class II 1.25" trailer hitch receiver is standard for any vehicle with 3500 pound maximum towing capacity.

Although we try to review all customer comments on the internet we can't always read every webpage. If you'd like to share more of your ideas and comments with Ford I'd recommend that you visit Contact-Ford. Thanks.

Do you have any input to the query below before I head into the dealership to see if somethings wrong?

the reverse park assist can't be turned off permanently. Whenever we have our bike rack on the hitch (90% of the time) the sensors pick up the hitch and sound the alarm. It wouldn't be bad if there was a dash mount switch (like on my F150) but on the Edge you have to scroll through the menu to turn it off....every time you start the car and back up. There's another thread about this so maybe it's not supposed to work that way.
  15. I really like ours, only a couple of nitpicks

I wish you could open the vista roof while keeping the sunshade closed on the rear seat moonroof. Sometimes mom wants some sunlight but baby doesn't like the sun in her eyes.

Removable headrests the center rear seat for to accommodate a child seat.

Pretty small stuff in the grand scheme of things.

  16. I was hoping that someone else who has one could confirm what you're seeing (or not seeing).

When you put it in Reverse - are you saying that you don't get a message on the message center showing the reverse parking sensor status?

When you say you turn it off through the setup menu - is that with the car in Reverse or Park? Go into the setup menu with the vehicle in park, and turn off the reverse parking sensor (go back in and verify that you actually turned it off, then turn the vehicle off and back on and check it again.

    I tried it this morning.

When you put it in reverse, nothing shows up on the message center and pressing any of the 3 message center related buttons does not turn off the warning beeper.

When you go into the menu and turn off the park assist feature, then put the vehicle in reverse, a brief warning tone sounds and "park assist off" is displayed on the message center.

If you shut the vehicle off then restart it and put it in reverse, the system resets itself and the park assist feature is turned back on. I've tried it with the vehicle in park and reverse. No difference.

There is no other way to access the park assist feature other than scrolling through the menu (unless I've missed something) and there doesn't appear to be a way to permanently turn off the park assist feature.

  17. On my Aviator when you put the vehicle in reverse the reverse parking sensor menu shows up on the message center and you can turn it off temporarily by just pressing the reset button - you don't have to go into the menu.

Have you tried going into the setup menu (when not in Reverse) and turning it off? Then go back in and confirm that it's off. At that point it should not come on when you go into reverse. If it does I'd say it's definitely a bug.

It's possible that you're either turning it off temporarily or not actually turning it off in the setup menu - that's why I suggested going back in and verifying that it's off. Those menus can be tricky.

It seems it's a bit different on the Edge. When you put it in reverse, there's no message and pressing buttons does not shut it off, even temprarily.

I have been going into setup the turn it off, but it comes back on the next time you start it up.

  18. If you do it from the setup menu it should be turned off permanently. If not that's a bug.

If you turn it off from the message center when you're in reverse it should only turn it off temporarily - until you restart the vehicle.

So can we confirm that if it's not turning off permanently from the setup menu that it's a bug?

I don't want to take it in and be told it's working the way it should.

With a bike rack on the hitch it's a real pain in the butt. My F150 has a button on the dash to turn it off, quick and simple. The Edge makes you scroll through the setup menu to find it. Then it resets itself back the next time you start the car, which the F150 does as well but like I mentioned it's a quick button on the dash to do it.
