The seat trim panels surrounding the amps look really great! What are they made of?

It's interesting because the OEM 22s actually have a higher load rating than the OEM 20s (2039lbs. vs. 1874lbs.).
If I had to guess I'd say the shorter sidewall on the 22s puts you at greater risk for wheel damage when hitting bumps or potholes with a loaded trailer.

So towing my focus from Cali to Illinois on a car dolly wouldn't be a good idea then
How much does the tow dolly weigh? Which Focus? The Mk1 and 2 are only ~2500-2700lbs, so they'd be fine with a 3500lb hitch. The Mk3 is ~3000 (ST is 3200), so they'd be close.
-
Tow ratings are a gray area, honestly. You can buy a hitch for a non-tow-package-equipped Edge that is rated for 3500#, that's what I did for my 2011 Limited. The tow package adds trailer sway control and an additional transmission cooler, but there's no physical reason that you can't safely pull a full 3500#.

Huge thanks to TheWizard and omar302, installed the new switch today and everything's back to normal! Time to update TrueDelta.

Unfortunately I think Ford has too much sunk into MFT to give up on it, even though the end users would benefit greatly and I bet their defect rate would drop exponentially.
Yes, I saw it and was very upset when I didn't see Ford's emblem in the supported vehicles section. Although, Jaguar was!! I really can't see manufacturers doing this, because they will lose out big time on Navigation sales and such like that.
I assume they'd just charge the standard $500-900 they would normally get for Nav instead for iOS support and suddenly the OEM isn't responsible for new SD cards, map updates, and more. All the better for them.

A new switch from Ebay costs only USD 36.00. I would try that first.
Ordered. Thanks!!

I'm sure the switch is an expensive part so I would hate to buy one and then find out it's not the problem. It looks like only a 15 minute job to replace the switch so maybe you know someone with the same year Edge that wouldn't mind letting you swap the switch for testing purposes.
Funny you mention that, since getting an Edge, my parents, sister, sister-in-law, and co-worker have all pick up one for themselves. Sister-in-law's is a 2011, but I'm not sure I could convince them to let me tear into the steering column. Thanks again for all of the info! I might just have to bit the bullet and pay the $75 "diagnostic" fee. The last time I took my wife's old Focus to the dealer to diagnose an ABS issue, they charged me the fee and found that one of the rear sensors was bad. Luckily, after that they only charged the cost of the part, no labor for replacement, so maybe I'll take the Edge back to that dealer.

Isn't the car under warranty still? If so, why do it yourself?
Even if it isn't under warranty, you might want to reconsider doing it yourself. Here is how it works:
As you can see, if it turns out to be something other than the somewhat simple momentary switches in the multifunction lever, you could get into a whole series of computerized modules. However, replacing the multifunction switch is relatively simple compared to older cars - you don't have to pull the steering wheel or any harness running down the column. If you need it, I can get you the pin positions in the connector so that you can test continuity for the momentary switches for the signals.
56,000 miles on it, so the bumper-to-bumper is over with. We like the Edge enough that we basically stopped driving my car.
Thanks for the additional info! I would definitely appreciate the pinout info. I'd love to do as much as possible on my own.

Sure, it might be a little more involved than swapping in a couple LED bulbs, but that doesn't mean it's not DIY. Sounds like no one has seen this before, guess I'll have to dig in.

My wife and I have gotten used to the Edge's turn signal stalk and have actually come to like it - a small movement for three blinks in either direction and a large movement for the blinker to stay on until I turn.
Recently, though, the blinker will not stay on when indicating a right turn. It will blink three times then turn off, no matter how hard the stalk is moved. The left turn still works as expected so we're wondering what's causing this. Has anyone seen this issue before? I did a search for blinkers but all I found was people installing LEDs or wondering why the light blinked quickly.
Many thanks.

You gotta factor in weight if you are going to compare HP between different cars.
The Taurus weighs 300-400lb more than the Edge.

The passenger side on my 2011 does the same thing. It moves fine with the joystick and I set the spot I want it in via the 1/2 buttons. The next time I start up the car and hit my button, it either moves to pointing up or down, and just today after starting or shutting off the car, it tries to move more than the motor will allow, so the mirror clicks.

Everyone is different. Although, I just can't believe that people are finding the Ecoboost lacking. Before purchasing our 2013, I had the wife test both for herself, Being she didn't believe a 2.0 would out perform the 3.5 with two less cylinders. She thought the Eco was a much hotter engine. If she was to bad mouth anything, it was that without traction control, anything over 50% throttle made the Eco almost uncontrollable. Even with both of us in it, the Eco will break the tires with traction off at 30 mph. The 3.5 could barely squeak them from a stop.
Did both vehicles have the same tires? It takes almost nothing to squeak the tires on my 3.5. It will roast them from a stop and even in dry weather they'll break loose all through first.

Obviously I wouldn't sell it for anywhere near $10,000, I didn't pay that much and I don't think anyone should pay that much, but that's just what STS said they would charge to make a prototype like this themselves.
The amount that STS would charge to make a prototype like this is what they charged you to make this prototype. The $10K figure is irrelevant.
But as far as the pipes go, they aren't mandrel and are steel because they are under the car where no one would see themand if you want to make it look prettier and maybe take away a bit of restriction, feel free to use mandrel bend piping.Form is not the primary reason to use mandrel bends and non-corroding material, function is.

Huh? A filter works until it's full. How full it gets depends on how much crap is in your oil. How much crap is in your oil has very little to do with mileage alone.
That's why the manual has different recommendations depending on driving conditions; if you live in sandy, dusty areas, Ford recommends more frequent oil changes.
From the 2013 Edge owner's manual:
And regarding oil change interval:
Unless you send in your oil for analysis and can knowledgeably inspect your filter, your best bet is to go with the manufacturer's (not the dealer's) recommendation. They have the most to lose if your engine fails (the dealer has the most to gain from more frequent oil changes).
Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend, Motorcraft FL500S filter. Anything else is anecdotal.
Also ignore anyone promoting Amsoil, they have a slimy network of "dealers," which is basically anyone with a mailing address and an internet forum membership.

I've noticed the same thing happening. You can tell that the system was designed by Microsoft.

I dont mind the autolock, but I dont like having to unlock the back doors or constantly tell passengers in the back seat they have to unlock the door so they can get out. Not something I will lose sleep over but it is annoying.
Out of curiosity, what vehicles have you owned where the rear doors will automatically unlock when the rear interior door handle is pulled? I've only ever owned Fords, but all of them have required the rear doors be unlocked before the interior handle will open them.
I did notice sometimes the remote key will automatically unlock all the doors as it should when I walk up to the car, but on few occassions it has only unlocked my door. Thus, forcing me to manually unlock all doors. In default form, the remote keyfob will unlock the driver's door with one click and all four doors with a second click.
It is odd the lock settings can't be accessed via the touch screen where other settings are located.Cellbine posted a picture a few posts up of the location of the keyfob configuration in the menu. You can choose whether one click of the keyfob's unlock button unlocks just the driver's door or all four doors.
Did the dealer not go over all of this stuff with you upon delivery?

If I connect my Edge to a wireless network, I can't share my phone's internet.
-
On a similar note, what is the reason that I'd connected my Edge to a wi-fi network? What features does that enable? I don't use SYNC services.

Here's the thread I was talking about:

Hello, new Edge owner here. We don't have a subscription to Sirius and don't want one. As it is right now, because Sirius is listed in the Source list, it push the bluetooth-connected phone to the "second page" in the source list, requiring scrolling to reach it. Also, when pressing the "Source" button to cycle through options, hitting Sirius causes a lot of lag as the system tries to connect to Sirius, throws up several error dialogs, etc.
Is there a way to remove Sirius from the source list? I've read something about disconnecting the antenna, but it wasn't clear how to do that, and it wasn't clear if there would be other repercussions.
Many thanks!
Back Up Camera Dead

Great info in this thread! My Wife's 2011 Limited with 116,000 started dropping the camera intermittently, but now shows the "contact your dealer" message every time it's put into reverse. I'm planning to order a camera and get this thing replaced.
On the fordparts website I see two cameras - build date before 2/15/2011 and after 2/16/2011. My build date is 9/16/2010. Do I get the camera to match my build date or do I get the new camera because it may be improved?
