Do not ignore this problem!!! Read some other online forums. I have an 08 MKX and the same is happening to me (significant amount of others as well from what I read online) and I took it to the dealer as well. Of course they did not experience the problem. So they said nothing was wrong twice. With mine...when I am either stopped or in stop and go traffic...I hear a thump and when I try to accelerate the RPM's go really high but the car will not go more than 10mph as if I am in neutral. So what I do is put the car in park, turn off ignition then restart and its fine. The dealer told me the 'CAM PHASERS' are bad and its going to cost about $2300+ to repair the problem. From reading the other online forums, this problem is common and there is even a watch thread on it. DO NOT IGNORE THIS PROBLEM! Most of the other 08 Edge and MKX owners have experienced the same problem. The lucky ones were in warranty and got it repaired for free. Your warranty is expiring soon...be sure to take to dealer for ANY similar issues ASAP and keep a paper trail! This job is very expensive because they have to take the engine down to get to the cam phasers and from what I read online takes a minimum of 10hrs labor. Parts cost a lot as well. Most people ended up having their car in the shop for 1 to 2 weeks to get this job done.

I have 08 Lincoln MKX. Check engine light has come on 4times now. 1st time it came on car was still in waranty at about 55k miles. Light stayed on fr 2days. Called dealer made appoinment to come in. The next day when driving to dealer light went off. When I got to dealer they said there is nothing they would be able to tell me if light went off. Fast forward to today light back on pd $100 for diagnostic to find out the cam phasers are bad. Not my MKX is out of warranty at 77k miles and ford wants me to pay $2300+ to repair this. Looking online I have found numerous posts with customers having the same exact problem. Is there anyway I can get the manufactor to pay for this? Shouldn't there be a recall if so many are expexperiencing the same problem? Any advice is helpful because I don't have anywhere near 2k to get this fixed. Thank You!
