  1. You make a pretty good case to consider the Hyundae, but I would still pick Ford, for the best overall quality, and resale. I also give points to Ford for making the amazing comeback from when Ford stock was bottomed out at about $1/share, and yet they took no bailout. Have you check Ford's stock prices lately? That's a good indicator of investor confidence in a company, and where they are headed. But back to the choices; I would say, if nothing else matters, just go for the one that you would be most pleased with seeing in your driveway. Good luck with your chice.

The trouble is... I'd like to see BOTH in my driveway! My main concern with the ford is their warranty. I'd have to pay more $$ to get an extended warranty to cover me, but that only goes to 7 years vs. Hyundai's 10. I don't like the idea of having to buy more warranty service on a $40,000+ vehicle.

I would get the Hyundai Santa Fe. For me, I like the newer body style of the Santa Fe and available 3rd row seating.

I love the styling of the Santa Fe and the captains chairs in the limited model. The very 1st vehicle I really wanted and was looking at was an acadia, but it's too expensive plus I really don't need that big of a vehicle. So the Limited Santa Fe would be my mini acadia!

I wish the santa fe 3 row models came with ambient lighting, not needed of course but still very neat thing to have! Bummed that the U.S. models are actually NOT getting the cooled front row seating. Don't understand why Canada gets them though =(.

Anyways, I still have a while to save up and look at both until I'm finally ready. Was hoping it was going to be much sooner but things happen. -_-

It'll give Hyundai more time to get their 3 row models into their dealerships and maybe by then, they won't be too popular as well as the Ford Edge and I'll see what deals I can get.

    ^_^

  2. We are in the midst of a lemon lawsuit with our 11' Explorer. It has a roof leak that gets worse every time Ford attempts to repair it. Its been in over 9 times and has spent over 100days at the dealer. Anyway, since the 13's are having the same problem, I was interested in looking at the Santa Fe's with third row seating as an alternative. They certainly look great and ive driven in older models and was quite impressed. I plan on taking one out for an extended drive when they hit the dealers around here to really shake one out and compare them. Keep us updated on your thoughts.

Wow! See Ford Service is what I really worry about. Plus they have a small warranty as the Hyundai has a much larger one. I know all cars and their companies have their issues but some people have had such horrible experiences when trying to get their vehicles fixed by Ford.

The upside of the Edge: Ambient lighting (not needed but still pretty cool), voice activated system, BLIS, collision support (don't really need adaptive cruise but looks like a cool feature to have), 19 city and 27 highway MPG, Sony system, passenger also gets a 10 way power seat.

The upside of the Santa Fe: 3 different steering modes (normal, comfort and sporty), cooled seats, built in sun shade for 2nd row, heated second row seats (some actually like/want that feature), heated steering wheel, also has a panoramic roof, more cargo space with 3rd and 2nd rows folded down, it also has 12 speaker sound system not sure how infinity system sounds. I think the limited model will also have the HID.

The Santa Fe Limiteds were supposed to be out in Jan. and I'm hoping they aren't as popular as the Hyundai sales man said they are. I'd like to actually see one and get to test drive one someday soon.

luckily, when I'm ready to buy the Hyundai and Ford dealerships are right across from each other! ^_^

We drove the new sante fe prior to purchasing our edge limited. It did drive nice, although I thought the transmission was a bit quirky and didnt always know what gear to be in. Interior I feel is nicer on the edge, exterior I give the Sante Fe the nod. Its a tough call, they are both nice. I felt the Edge was roomier, less blind spots, and better entertainment system.

I think the 2013's and the V6 shouldn't be too bad. I do like the look of the Santa Fe and the Edge, so that'll be a tough call.

  3. I would say ya gotta spend some time behind the wheel in both. The cool thing about the Edge is that Ford is an American Company!!!!

I've always been more on the American car company myself. I even thought for some reason that Hyundai was american made, I found on the internet that their cars come from a plant in the US and have plants in Canada. Thought it was weird that the Santa Fe Limiteds were coming over from South Korea.

The Ford Edge is still on the top of my list of course. I'm hoping no major redesigns come to it unti the 2015 model year, giving me a little extra time just in case!

I agree with fishx65, American made. I have owned mostly Ford products (2 GM's years ago), never had a major problem with them, and service has always been like the steak sauce - 'A-1'. True, the wife and I now own Lincolns, still another fine product built by Ford.

I like the look of the Ford Edge over their Lincoln version. Both are great vehicles I'm sure. ^_^

  4. Well, I've been looking at the Ford Edge limited model for awhile then came across a Hyundai Santa Fe Limited model (these are barely coming out to dealers right now).

The Santa Fe limited looks like it can do everything the edge does except the voice activation and ambient lighting and priced with options is $37,125(this includes cargo security shade, bumper protector, and all weather floor mats. They have standard 19" wheels no other options) Vs. ford edge at $42,245(this is just the sticker price for the platinum white, 302A package with 20" wheels)! (And they don't have those colors they charge $400-$600 for)

Anyways, I like them both. Santa Fe's only advantage is the cooled seats and built in rear sun shades for back rows, heated steering wheel, and possibly heated 2nd row seats (which I don't even need heated 2nd row), bigger/ longer warranty. Ford edge advantage is the HID, voice activated sync system, and the ambient lighting (I like how you can choose the color you'd like), as well as the computer screens in the dash.

I like both cars, it's a debating process right now and both companies have issues as any car company does. I worry about the Ford service as I've heard they aren't very nice nor stand by their own cars.

    Any thoughts?

  5. Roxy, the Sierra is NOT FWD, nor has it ever been. Aside from the Honda Ridgeline (and maybe it's more of a front wheel drive-based 4WD), no pickups are front wheel drive. Well that and maybe some weird Volkswagen things and the Dodge Rampage from the 80s.

My bad... The Sierra is a rear wheel drive. And it doesn't jerk, I pushed it a little harder than I should have and rode on water. I don't drive it a lot, only when I have to and it's much heavier than I'm used to so I thought I didn't push it to go hard enough.

However, my mom's 2012 equniox is FWD but hers won't jerk to the right like my car does as I believe it's hydrolic steering... Something like that, it keeps it from jerking. My torrent has torque(?) steering which causes it to pull to the right sometimes while accelerating.

Anyways, sorry I don't know much about what's under the hood, I'm more of what's on the inside and how the car looks on the out. I'm hoping to get an Edge soon, just need to wait to hear on this job. But I figured if I can get the Edge I would like to do/know more things about it from under the hood.

But I'm trying to learn what I can right now. I like to keep my cars looking and running like new. :). By May it'll be 7 years that I've had the torrent other than a few rock dings, it still looks great and the inside still looks pretty new. And other than the fuel injector sticking because i dont drive it too much (43,000 miles on it), it runs like new.

    Akirby---

No I really meant Sierra. My dad is a truck man. He hates the Acadia, which I was originally going for until I found the Edge. We don't buy AWD vehicles as we don't need them. :)

  6. My current vehicle is FWD and it too does that.

(I borrowed my dad's GMC sierra while my car was in the shop, its FWD too and I also managed to accelerate too fast and jerk it to the right but during the rain so it was a little scary)

    -_-

However, in my car, I mainly do that coming from a left turn and I accelerate too fast I guess, and it'll try to jerk to the right.

Mine will also do it when accelerating on the freeway on ramp to get up to speed but not very often, my car is older and when getting on the freeway mostly its slow to respond so mine will just jerk forward because of it. (185 horsepower I believe maybe 165. I forget what these torrents have). Its the only annoying thing my FWD does.

    ^_^

I have only driven FWD cars as i live in SoCal and we don't get snow or a lot of icy roads.

    :)

  7. I wouldn't use the Internet search for inventory. I noticed most dealerships don't keep their sites updated. Or they don't add all vehicles maybe one or two of each model. When I bought my SHO, the dealer I went to was showing one white SHO avaliable. I went there knowing that this dealership always has more than one normally. I was right they had seven in stock, the were all white or black though, I wanted the charcoal gray but got an awesome deal on this car as well so I went with black. Sticker was 46,000 walked out paying 37,500.

I'm hoping the dealership by me will actually have the one I'm looking for, but I doubt it, even then they had only a couple of limiteds and they were Ecoboost and with the 301 A. The rest were SELs . :( There is another dealer about 20 mins away, and its possible they might have it. But I'm hoping to deal with the one closer to me. The salesman seemed nice at the time, may be a different story when negotiating.

It's a $42,000 -$42,200 car and I'm hoping to get a total out the door price of $37,000 -$37,600 and without discussing my car's trade in value until a price deal has been made.

But I must inspect the new car and test drive it before signing any papers.

My car just went into Chevy today for its 43,000 mile service. I mentioned looking into the Ford Edge. My service consultant told me that Ford was a four letter bad word over there. Haha. Better not mention them again.

  8. That's crazy that there are so few limiteds with 18" wheels around. I would say my dealer has roughly 100-150 Edges New edges on their lot and maybe 3-4 I saw had the 20" on them. Almthe limiteds near me have the 18" wheels. I was at the dealer today walking around the lot waiting for them to fix my edge looking at the new ones. There were more of the edges with the appearance package and the black rims than there were 20" from what I saw. I wish they would have had the two tone seats as well when I bought mine, I might have jumped on a 2013 without the ecoboost. The 2013 were out when I got mine but no 2013 ecoboost and none had the two tone leather seats.

Yeah its crazy. The just add that additional cost onto a lot of their Edges. Maybe there are a lot of people around here that wanted those 20" wheels so they figured to just add them on most. I may not be able to tell all of the dealerships actual inventories as each site for inventories are different. I've used the USA Ford link that's on one of these threads, ford.com's inventory as well as the dealership site and each site is different. I've had two show there weren't any Edges I was looking for and the other would show one or two. And I'm very sure I searched all of the sites for the inventories of Ford dealerships in the Southern California area.

I'm just hoping they'll find the exact one I want and its not from some place far away. Or that they can find one at all! =/

  9. the Sony upgrade is not standard or at least wasn't standard in the limiteds when I was looking at them. I have the sync MFT system in mine with the backup camera, so there was no difference between the two. Like I said also I have the ambient light package(never use it) and I don not have the aluminum will plates, but they can be had fairly cheap if I wanted them. I did upgrade my stereo and planned on it anyways, it blows the doors off the Sony system any day in quality sound and volume. I used JL Audio for everything in my Edge. Got C5 components for the front doors, C2 6x8 for the rear doors, JL Stealthbox with upgraded 10W6 all ran off of a JL audio 900/5 amp. All wiring was upgraded of course.

The 2013 limited models of the edge have the upgraded Sony system. It comes standard.

And the only models with the ambient lighting standard now are the Limiteds and the Sports, I don't think you can get ambient lighting in an SEL with any package.

    :)

  10. I don't think it's odd that the cars has been there for 70 days. I wouldn't buy it, I would buy a brand new 2013 for that money. My window sticker had my edge at 38,000. I walked out paying 30,000 and even got a complete 100,000 mile warranty on everything except the leather, rims and tires. Also had a 2 year service plan included, they will cover all oil changes no matter the mileage on the Edfe for 2 years and any service it needs. Including windshield wipers which I thought was odd but a cool extra.

    Brock 79,

Yeah, I've decided to go with a new one. I'm now just stuck between diamond white and ingot silver with the black interior.

I'm hoping I can get a total out the door price of $37,000 - $37,500 for a Limited with a 302A pack. Maybe $37,600 with the cargo accessory.

Most likely will be a long shot as the sticker says $42,000.

    Anyways,

wow! a 2 year coverage for oil changes and any service?

That's a pretty sweet deal! :yup:

  11. Tell the dealer you love the vehicle, but you hate the 20" wheels and you'll not buy unless they swap out the 20" wheels for 18" wheels from another vehicle.

As Dingo describes, the change may have no significant effect on the accuracy of the speedometer.

The dealer might do it to get your business and should reduce the purchase price of the vehicle by the approximate cost of the 20" wheel option.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I will defiantly try that. I know they'll always try to get me to go with the wheels the vehicle comes with as they see more money to be made. The only way I'll take the 20"s is getting the total out the door price I figured up for each of the color choices I would like. It's a long shot though, but still worth trying.

My suggestion was based on my experience a few years ago buying a non-Edge Ford vehicle, and the dealer did what I requested.

If the dealer had not subtracted the optional value of the removed wheels that he replaced with standard wheels, I would have gone to another dealer.

But you don't know what the dealer is willing to do to get the sale until you ask them.

    Good luck!

That's going to be one of the things I ask first before trying to get a total out the door price. With the 18" wheels I'm hoping that when it comes time to replace them, they won't be as expensive as the 20"s would be. The 16"s on my current car were bad enough! :drop: I'm also hoping I'll get a discount for the white color vehicle with all the options I'm looking for as I'd rather have white suede, a pure white is easier to maintain/touch up. I worry about touch up paint or if anything happens to the paint on the car and needs repainted that it won't match. I have a car that got scrapped up in an accident, no major damage just needed a door repainted, and the dealer did warn me that when they do the repainting it's very possible that when it comes out, the one door will not match the regular paint of the car. However, the paint job matches perfectly. I'm a little afraid with a white tricoat, it might look like a match close up but if you stand further away the paint will look different from the rest of the body color. But I have to admit, the diamond white looks very nice when it's cleaned up and the sun is out. =)

I had to laugh when I read this! One dealer did offer to exchange the 20" chrome wheels off an Edge I was looking at on their lot with the 18" aluminum wheels off an SEL. He would do an even swap since he had labor costs to do the switch. So I would have been paying $895.00 for the 20" wheels only to trade them for the standard no cost wheels off the SEL and essential paying $895.00 for the labor to swap them!

Needless to say, I did not purchase my Edge from that dealership.

Wow. I wouldn't purchase anything from that dealership either! That's ridiculous. Any car dealer should do whatever they can to get you in that new vehicle.

Man, I would've loved to given them a nice slap upside the head, they make it sound like changing tires is such a hassle. :rant2:

I'm hoping to know before the end of March if things are going to work out so I can start looking for my Edge, (I'm hoping I'll still be able to find one with everything I'm looking for by then). I already have a list of places along with VIN numbers of the vehicles in one set. Another set I have the VIN #s separated into my preferred colors (interior and exterior) along with package and options. I have a lot of papers I'll be taking with me, and I need to print up my research I did of the fair purchase price for the car and options and what the average person is paying, etc. :P

  12. Hello bulletooth!

I'm also hoping to buy one.

Hoping within the next few months. :hyper:

Have you gotten a chance to test drive one?

I test drove an ecoboost one, although I want a normal V6, those Ecoboost have very good get up and go power!

Edge's are a very nice car and fun to drive!

Good luck on getting yourself an Edge!

  13. Y'all realize that the 20 inch wheels don't make the car taller, right? When they upsize the wheel, they downsize the tires.

Oh.. haha. I've read some post / reviews from others that said they like their 20" wheels because it sits up more.

The Edge and the vehicle I drive now, actually have the same ground clearance, but for some reason the edge feels like it sits up higher.

But do the 20" lower the MPG? I heard it was just better to go with factory standard 18".

  14. I don't even have the Ford Edge yet... But I do know all about the Ford SYNC system and what it can do pretty much.

I've done a lot of research through Google. I even downloaded the Edge manual and had read up on the SYNC system.

It's all apart about being an owner or (hopefully) soon to be buyer, is doing a lot of research about the car / system.

There are some that hate their MFT system, but there are others who really love it and have no issues.

Not all MFT systems come with the Nav. unless selected or in a package and when the sync subscription is up, only certain features won't work. (Sirus XM, Traffic updates, Ford's version of Onstar)

You can view photos in you MFT, or even change/customize the background photo. If you have ambient lighting, you can select from 7 different colors.

If you have a phone that can get google maps you can send the map to your MFT system, download the directions to your Nav. (I believe you need an app for that though)

What I really like about the MFT is being able to read incoming text messages, and I already know my phone is one of the phones that work for that feature. ^_^

Anything else... The manual is a good thing to read (not front to back as I know not everyone likes to do so... but maybe just for the SYNC, what it is and all it's features), Google is also good to research, Ford.com -- Under technology has info about the SYNC system as well, and I'm sure Youtube has videos as well.

  15. @Is973800 -

I've searched so many dealership inventories and I too only found they all have the 20" wheels. I only found 1 that I remember had the 18" wheels out of all the 70+ Limited's with the 302 A pck.

I test drove an edge with 20" and I like that I sit up higher and all. But once it's time to replace those 20" wheels it's gonna be pretty expensive. I have 16" on my Torrent and it was almost $600 and my dad's truck has 20" wheels and his was around the $800 area to replace his. O_O I hope they'll either give me a discount on the wheels or are willing to swap them out. If I can get a good deal on the car, I'll just keep the 20". I wonder if the 20" will actually affect the MPG however.

I will be looking for a trailer and tow package with the color options I want... :runaway: :banvictory:

  16. The 'gently' used one I actually found online from a car place in Vista, Cali. But it was weird how it's been on the lot for like 80+ days. Plus, the dealer wanted to sell it for more than it's worth / close to new car price.

I've been thinking about the car a lot and I decided to just go with a brand new one over a used, and I'm hoping by the time I'm fully ready to buy, I can get one for a great deal. I'm thinking that $37,000 TOTDP isn't too bad (includes taxes, fees and incentives).

I think I'll have a much better chance at a brand new one because I have someone that will help me negotiate the best price possible and bringing my research would help out too.

I test drove one a while back and I really liked it. So I really hope everything will work out so I can snatch one up before it's too late. :)

  17. Hello all! :)

I've been looking into a Ford Edge for some time now, I even found a gently used 2013 Limited with the 302 A pck. I wanted but I'm deciding to go with a brand new one. :headspin:

I'm getting closer, hopefully within the next month or two if all goes well. :hyper:

Anyways, I was wondering what was the Total out the door price some of you got for your Edges?

I was going to try for $37,000 - $37,500 TOTDP for a Silver 2013 limited with the 302A pack. (maybe a trailer tow pck. or I could just have one installed later, I just need one for a bike rack) Oh and no 20" wheels. I don't like that there's nothing but a plastic cover on them, plus I'm hoping the 18' will be better on gas milage.

  18. Well, in SoCal I see a lot of Edges on the road, especially freeway.

I've also seen a 50/50 of women and men drivers. It all comes down to preference really. Some guys like SUV/CUV's while others are more sports cars or trucks, same with women.

However, with the amount of post and reviews I've read on the edge, it's completely different, I see more men online talking about their Edge's.

I think it's funny when people worry about whether or not certain cars are more for women vs men, even with the color of the car.

If you like it, go for it. =)
