  1. The antenna was actually very easy to install. I mounted it right on the center back of the roof, ran the wire down the left side of the back molding with the hatch/trunk open. There is a black rubber lip between the roof and the real spoiler-thing that I just slipped the wire through. Then ran it down the back left side of the molding lip and popped up the plastic piece that covers the trunk lip on the bottom of the hatch opening to hide the wire going into the vehicle. I then ran the wire right up under the spare tire cover, tucked it under the plastic molding all along the left side of the truck and up into the center console by going under the driver's seat. This then gets hidden under the shifter trim plate that actually snaps on/off and run right into the Sirius receiver. It is just enough wire to reach...literally. Hope this helps! Jim
  2. Kinzey... I have installed an aftermarket Sirius tuner to my stock radio. I have a 2007 Edge SEL. The install was very, very easy and it works really well. I've installed the unit just under the stereo and dash console...just to the left of the A/C input. I have the power cord, antenna cord and aux stereo plug all hidden under the shifter console running up to the gap in the center glovebox and into the AUX in and A/C plug inside the glovebox. The whole shifter console cover just snaps off so it really is a breeze to hide the wires. The sound is tight...and the look is professional. The only problem I'm having is that the power for the Sirius tuner does NOT turn off when the vehicle is turned off. The power outlets are run in a mode which keeps them on at all times...so I have to manually the power off on the Sirius tuner itself each time I get out of the truck. I've forgotten to do this a few times and even after 2 days the tuner was still on and draining power from the battery!!! I'm going to look into having a professional change this so that all outlets get turned off once the key leaves the ignition like in most foreign cars. Here is a basic picture of my setup. If you want to see more let me know...I can snap off a few more shots to show you the detail. I can also give you more specific instructions for the install if you need them.   4. Ammonia free...that makes sense. I was using some generic crap for window cleaning...that's probably why they turned purple. I'll look into a reputable tint shop. Any tint brands I should be looking for? Jim

  6. I tinted out my past car...a 2002 Nissan SER Spec-V...and the tints looked great for about 3 years. After that they began to turn purple. I just want to make sure this doesn't happen again. Is there a tint brand or type which is known to not fade or turn purple??? I know that the factory tints stay true...just want to make sure this happens to the front ones as well. Jim

  9. Right on...solid advice. And you're right...despite being handy on many other things, specifically being a DJ with my own technical setup and a home music studio, I do lack the expertise in electronics. I would want to bring this to a specialist as I know I would f*** this up, no doubt. My fear would also be the loss of warranty as well. I'm just curious how all this works. Good to know I have options. Plus it's important to know if something is even possible or worthwhile before asking someone else to do it. And if it's possible, I'll try to learn it myself. It's more fun that way. I also had a scare the other day. After getting home on Friday night and leaving my Edge for about 1 1/2 days I noticed I left my Sirius Radio tuner on, and it was drawing battery power even though the vehicle was turned off for over a day. Scared that the battery died I jumped in and cranked the ignition. Luckily it turned over and all was well. My fear is that this might happen again and I might drain the battery because of some stupid mistake!!! All could be avoided if the AC power outlets were set to a "switched circuit".   10. Nice. Yeah, this definitely helps alot. Thanks for the feedback Lex. My head's spinning with ideas now. I would want to tap into the ignition...makes sense...any idea on how to do that? Or is that something I'd be better off getting done at a pro audio shop? I really like the "bank of switches" idea. This way I could power up only certain items when needed. And it would solve my interference problem when having 2 audio sources run off the Aux input. Plus it would just be cool to have more buttons to do things. Can't beat having more buttons to mess around with! Thanks for the info...much appreciated. Jim
  11. Thanks for your help with this guys... Looks like I'm not alone. So I'm really convinced that I need to create some way of being able to manually turn all of my accessories on and off with the touch of a button...as well as have them all turn off once the vehicle is turned off. In my Nissan this would happen automatically when the car was turned off. Any idea why this doesn't happen in the Ford Edge? Can someone provide a step-by-step instruction guide in setting up a 12 volt relay system? I would be running a Sirius Satellite Radio tuner as well as a GPS system...none of which run at 12 volts. I would like to be able to get in the vehicle, turn on the ignition, have all my accessories (sat radio, GPS, etc) turn on as well...and when I leave the vehicle, be able to turn off the ignition and all the accessories AND AC power sources turn off as well. On top of this, I would also like to be able to turn on/off the AC outlet for my Sirius Radio at any given time without turning off the other AC outlets as this causes interference with my iPod when plugged in together. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance. Jim
  12. OK...so I figured out the problem. The reason the sound is dicey while the 2 sound sources are plugged in is because the AC outlets inside the Edge are always on! This means that even though my Sirius tuner is turned off, it is still drawing power through the AC outlet it is plugged in to. So while I play my iPod through the splitter, there is feedback coming from the Sirius' power supply. This all stops when I unplug that AC adapter from it's outlet. The iPod will then work just fine. So here's a new question... Is there any way to make the AC outlets inside the Edge turn off when the vehicle is turned off? Or...can I incorporate some type of switch to turn off the AC outlets when not in use? Jim
  13. Thanks for the tips guys...I'll try Radio Shack 1st. I had an Alpine deck with the iPod hookup in my last car and that was great! Great sound quality and functionality from the receiver. Now you've got me thinking about doing this with the stock radio in the Edge. Hmmm.... Jim
  14. Tried that...and each one works fine when hooked up individually directly to the AUX input. Also they both work fine individually in either of the splitters ports, but cut out when hooked up together. Maybe a trip back to Radio Shack is in order? Do you know of a decent small audio signal splitter? Jim
  15. Question... Does anyone know of a way to accurately hook up 2 Aux audio sources to the single Aux input jack for the Ford Edge? Right now I have my Sirius hooked up into the 1/8" mini jack, a headphone splitter to turn one input into two, and the 2nd line coming in from my iPod. Sounds simple, right? Well, not so fast. The sound from the Sirius comes through fine, but the audio coming from the iPod sounds like crap, it's a very weak signal and is very quiet and distorted. This may be because I'm using a $4 Radio Shack headphone splitter to split the Aux input...but then again it may be something else. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking that the headphone splitter is meant to split audio coming OUT...not in. But then again, maybe the direction of the signal doesn't matter? Hmmm.... Jim
  16. So I'm not alone here... This is all great info. So it is possible to hard-wire add-ons like GPS...as long as the voltage matches and you can have a switch to turn things on and off. Otherwise the battery gets drained. Funny, my old car was a Nissan and the A/C adapters went off as soon as the car was turned off. Why don't Ford's do this as well? I wonder if it would be easy to install a universal A/C switch into the dash somewhere, run all the A/C add-ons to this switch, and then hard wire this switch to the power lead on the radio wiring harness? Any thoughts? Jim
  17. Interesting... So it's all about voltage then. Makes complete sense. I'll have to check the voltage that my GPS runs at to see if it's 12V. If not, do you know of any other ways to reduce voltage? Maybe that's a question better asked to an electrician... Thanks though...good info. Jim
  18. OK...so maybe I'm just a little OCD about things, but I hate wires hanging out all over the place when I include "add-ons" to my vehicle. Anyone else out there feel the same way? It's gotta have a clean appearance in order for me to feel good about it. Case in point... I have a "plug & play" Sirius Satellite Radio receiver and a Mio GPS system. In order for both of these things to work they need to be plugged into a power source...typically the cigarette lighter plugs (A/C adapters). This is easy enough, but all those wires flying around everywhere drives me nuts!!! This is what I've learned so far about the Edge: The center console trim (plastic casing around the shifter) just pops off if you pull up on it. The side panels do as well making satellite radio install a snap...literally. I also tucked the wires that were exposed to the sat. readio received into the center console and popped the trim back on and Voila...all the wires are hidden. They just get snuck into the armrest compartment through the small hole that's exposed giving you access to the 1/8" input and A/C adapter. I'm even thinking about drilling a small hole in the plastic divider to just run wires directly up from the inside of the center armrest compartment to the front of the center console right under the dash. Now, I haven't tried this yet for the GPS, but I'm sure the dash trim works in pretty much the same way. Pop and snap. But here's a question... Does anyone know if you can just cut the male end of an A/C cord for, say, the GPS, and just attach it directly to the A/C input or power line in the stereo wiring harness? Does it need to be connected using the given connectors...or can these units be bypassed allowing me to connect devices to a power supply directly?   19. Will do...thanks for the tip GMan... And TT Bear...that's very impressive about the Edge riding comparable to a BMW. Same fun for half the price! Sounds like your ride is all hooked up to. The one thing I wish I had was a power lift gate. Oh...and memory seats would have been nice too...my faince and I are always swapping cars and she's so short that I have to readjust everything every time I get in. Small price to pay I guess. Jim
  20. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! And the pig in poop comment...that's just a little something I picked up awhile back. I reserve the expression for times when I'm really, really happy. The Edge makes me feel that way! And Grey...sounds like your riding in style with the SEL Plus. All those extras must make for a very comfy ride. Anyone have pics of their Edge's they can point me too. It's always nice to compare notes. The only thing I may want to do to my Edge is tint out the front 2 windows and add a bumper guard on the back. I'm a DJ on the weekends and all the bumps of my gear across that back end will definitely do some damage! Again...thanks guys! Jim

  22. Just wanted to say hi to all my fellow Ford Edge owners out there. I'm proud to say that I just purchased a lightly used (6400 miles) 2007 Ford Edge SEL. It is charcoal gray with camel leather interior. Power seats...dimming rear-view mirror...6 disc CD changer...niiice. I did ALOT of research on CUV's and the Edge was just hands down the best. After a test drive I was totally hooked! I'm from Connecticut, and drove almost 2 hours to Rhode Island to pick this bad boy up...but it was totally worth it. The price was a steal...the vehicle is mint...and I'm happier than a pig in poop! Just wanted to share in the excitment of being an Edge owner. Jim
