  1. Thanks Dingo

    So thats 6 x .5w = 3w total

This light that has 8 5630 SMD LEDs might be brighter... http://www.ebay.com/itm/370806407784?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I looked up the output for each 5630 SMD LED and the 2 places I found any info says they are also .5w each...

    http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/samsung-natural-white-5630-smd-led/1385/

    http://szgmled.en.alibaba.com/product/548656923-213446509/high_lumen_led_smd_5630_Top_100_led_.html

    So that would be 8 x .5w = 4w total...

Now i guess that could be only for the 5630 leds that those sites sell but I would think all 5630's would be the same.

Right? or am i getting this all wrong?

    What do you think Dingo?

  2. Has anyone changed their pool lights to LED's?

    I was looking at these...

    Pool

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/546-LED-multi-Color-swimming-pool-light-lamp-12-volt-edison-/130913655564?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e7b0fdb0c

    Spa

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/72-LED-multi-Color-swimming-spa-pool-light-lamp-12-volt-edison-/130912550339?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e7afefdc3

I was also looking into how hard it is to change the lights. From what I have found you do not need to drain any water because the whole light fixture is enclosed and has a long cord that you bring above the water level to change the bulb. Has anyone else ever changed a pool/spa light out before?

    Thanks,

  3. Something to try if your having trouble getting the bulbs in. I used the rubber ring from OEM bulbs (YELLOW) and switched out the orange ones on the 35w DDM bulbs and the DDM bulbs went in 1000% easier. I spent almost 30 mins trying to get the bulbs in with the rubber seal ring (Orange) that came with them and couldn't get the bulbs in. Put the YELLOW rubber seal ring on the DDM bulbs and they went in with ease and with no shadows.

Hmmm, good idea. I just might have to try that to see if the 9006's will work. Was this done on 9006 or 9005 bulbs?

  4. Well the 9012 bulbs went in without a problem! The 9012 base with the o-ring looked slightly smaller then the 9006 bulbs. I pushed on the 9006 o-ring to make sure it was fully seated and it seemed like it was even though it was sticking out further slightly on 1 side. So maybe that is why the 9006 bulbs are a pain to get it? The color of both 9012 bulbs look consistent with each other and put off decent light. It does seem like the driver side HID bulb return wire isn't at the top like it should be though. The driver side has a slight "dead" spot when light is projected ahead. It looks similar to Rusty's same issue he had before switching to the 55w 9005's. At the same time they are not as bright as I would like them to be so I might just get another kit, DDM 55w 9005 5k Morimoto Harness. I am even thinking about the whole Morimoto 50w 9005 5k HID kit. I have only bought HID kits from DDM before so what does everyone else have?

    :sos: ??? Morimoto 50w 9005 5k OR DDM 55w 9005 5k ???

  5. The dimensions definitely look different between the 9005/9006 at the base of the lamp glass. The 9006 seems to have a wider/thicker body at that point, and if so, that could affect installation.

Your are right! Can't believe I didn't notice that! I studied these pictures for a while and I looked at that, I guess it didn't register in my brain. I am supposed to get the 9012's today, tracking says they are finally out for delivery after sitting in a USPS facility for 2 days that is 30 minutes away from me. I will compare the 9012, 9005, and 9006 once I get the 9012's today to see if the base is really different.

  6. Hey Timmer, I would give the DDM 9005 bulbs a shot. I had a lot of trouble with the 9006 bulbs as well and just gave the 9005's a try on Saturday. Got both bulbs installed in less than 5 minutes!! Compared to the 2+ hour struggle with the 9006's just to try and get to bulbs in, which did not work so well and I actually ended up breaking the return wire on a bulb.

This way you at least get the quanltiy of the DDM kit and shouldn't have trouble putting the bulbs in. Either way I'll be looking to see how these bulbs work.

Hey Russ, I haven't had the chance to try the 9005's yes but I am supposed to be getting the 9012's today and I might give those a shot first. I also did some more research about the difference between the 9005 and 9006 and found a couple more differences. First off on the halogen bulbs the top smaller tab is set off to opposite sides between the bulbs, not sure if this is the case with HID bulbs. Also I found a dimension chart (from http://www.hidsrus.com/hid-conversion-kit/ ) for the HID 9005 and 9006 bulbs which show a little difference between the two of them. But it doesn't seem like the dimensions should stop the fitment of either bulb working in either socket. Also the dimension chart shows the same base between the 2 bulbs. I also just remembered a couple years back when I ordered HID's for my truck (9006 Low\9005 High) threw DDM I received two 9006 sets. I remember contacting their support about it and they told me at that time their 9005 and 9006 bulbs were the same. I am wondering if that has changed.

I don't think it's a good idea to try E-bay bulbs but ya might get lucky. The cheap Chinese bulbs from Morimoto or DDM are probably a little more consistent when it comes to color, brightness and bulb life.

Ya I agree, I have never bought eBay HID's before. I have bought all my HID kits threw DDM. But I thought I would give it 1 shot, and 1 shot only if they give me any problems.

  7. I am also a victim of DDM's 9006 HID bulb not fitting... After trying for a while to get those bulbs in I am going to try some different bulbs I found. I am a little skeptical to try these bulbs because they are off of eBay... yes I said it, eBay. I have never bought HID's off of eBay before but this is the only place I found these TRUE 9012 HID Bulbs. The construction of the bulbs look good to me but I guess we will see how they perform once I get them. I will let you all know how it goes.

  8. Update: So I ordered a new DDM 55w 5k kit with both the 9005 & 9006 bulbs. Tried the 9005 bulbs and got them both installed with no problems!!!! Took about 5 minutes total which was fantastic. I also installed a Morimoto harness and can't wait until it gets dark to see what these babies look like.

Already during the day they are brighter than the last kit I had installed so I'm hopeful for tonight. I'll post again later once it's dark.

    Thanks,

    -Russ

Good to hear Rusty! Did you happen to compare the base's and tabs of the new 9005 and 9006 to see if they look different? I thought the only difference between the 9005 & 9006 halogen bulb was the connector being keyed and the 9006 bulb having the dark cap on the end of the bulb. I just might have to check my trucks HID's... Highs are 9005 and lows are 9006's...

  9. I recently received the DDM 35W 9006 5K kit... I have tried once to get those HID's into the headlight housing's and boy is it a pain. I have done a lot of HID conversions on other cars and never had a problem. I know I had seen somewhere else on the forum where someone else was also having issues with the DDM hid kit getting the bulbs in but I can't find the thread.. Anyways it almost seems like the rubber seal isn't seated on the bulb correctly and I couldn't get it to seat all the way down on 1 side. Anyone else get a DDM kit lately and had success installing them?

  10. Congradulations on getting the Edge, and welcome to the forum. Wish you all the best with the car. Might be heading out to 'Vegas in a few months, and then to Irvine to visit a cousin. Are you near there?

    Joe

Thanks! Nice, we are going to Vegas for a couple of days in 2 weeks. I am about an hour and a half +/- 45min from Irvine depending on traffic.
