  1. I was thinking the same thing when I had my dealer change oil and filter on my MKZ (Same engine as MKX/Edge). Tech had no problems removing the filter.

I.E., it was not put on by an 800 pound gorilla.

HOWEVER, tech found that the oil drain plug was only on FINGER TIGHT, and he could remove it without a wrench.

Dealer allows owners to stand and watch, so I stood and talked with tech while he was doing the job. Dealership did not object to having me in shop. Tech went out of his way to make me happy. Not my selling dealer, but of the L-M dealers within 35 miles, I use this one 25 miles away, because all the others will not allow me to watch. Took it to this L-M dealer because my local Ford dealer could not give me the free oil changes Lincoln will give me in the first year. I do take my Continental to my local Ford dealer as he also allows me to watch, although from not as close up.

it was all tight the plug was simple with a wrench and a 15mm but the filter like i said was a major pain to take off very tight.. i have heard (in other forums) some people just jam a screw driver through the filter to get it out the first time.

  2. I dont know where the filter is located, but i just thought i would ask a couple of questions/make a couple of statements.

Ford has started to suggest that the 3.5L V-6 in this can go 7.5k without needing a change (its in the owners manual as well). I was just wondering if you are doing this early change as something to clear out any loose parts that might have come into the oil during breaking in, or doing it because that is what you have always done with cars, or just because you can?

Personally i am taking mine in for the free first oil change in a month or two when i hit 5k miles. I am taking the alternative schedule for dusty, towing, idling etc conditions - which we have plenty of around here! Plan on continuing on that schedule. For the small oil change fee involved i dont mind having the dealer look at it. Personally i dont trust folks who do their own changes, at least when it comes to resale time. I also had a GF with an Isuzu Trooper who bought it off another guy who had done his own oil changes - unfortunately he didnt check much else and the oil pump was about to go out as well as a few other misc items, which likely would have been picked up with a mechanic working on it. Its also nice to have the receipts to back up the change intervals for the history.

well i'm sticking to 3k just because i can... i have a place and the tools to do this. and all my other cars have been done at 3k i do not trust the dealer usually around here the dealer oil changes are done by some 16 yearold that is barely out of highschool and they usually do not look at anything i will follow the maitenance plan as stated in the manual but i will do it myself. if it is something i cannot do i have a good friend who is an ASE certified master mechanic that has a full shop he will be able to help with anything out of my knowledge. i think it will be arlight... and also i will probably keep this car in my family till the doors fall off lol... so i'mn not too worried about resale.

  3. got the edge on Mar 20 2007 that was a quick 3k... going to use Motorcraft FL-400S bought at the local walmart (so glad they carry it) and castrol fully syntetic oil since it comes from the factory with semi syntetic i belive we can go directly to fully syntetic. i hope the change is rather quick... anyone have any idea where the filter is located?? easy to get to?

  4. Have done a few of those trips so far in my Edge too - not all in a round trip and not every one of those destinations. I also found the Edge was great in sand - at least at the primitive campgrounds we stayed at. We got about 24mpg on the TP from Orlando to Delray and back, with a little city driving down in Delray pulled that back to 22mpg - so not bad overall. How many times did you fill up on that trip and roughly how many gallons for the total trip?

hrm... heck if i can remeber... hahah i gotta go back to my CC receipts... i'll post it lata

  5. I drove this past week for 1000 miles all around florida left ft. lauderdale to orlando through the east coast, then to Daytona beach (yes the edge handled great on the sand), then off to gainesville (HOME OF THE GATORS), then to Cedar Key then came back thru the west coast and back to ft. lauderdale.. the drive was great fun and the edge rode beautifuly....

on the way up to orlando on the turnpike acording to the computer on the car i got 20 mpg at 80 MPH average speed in 3 hours. from then on i really did not check on the milage. but i thought it was not bad any thoughts???

  6. I ordered an Edge on Jan 27th they are telling me that the Build Date was 3-19-07. Delivery date is not scheduled until 4-16-07. Does this sound about right? i am use to getting F-350's in about 3 weeks. i heard that the Chrome Wheels on the SEL + is the hold up. Any comments.

i ordered my edge on 1-10-07 and finally received it 10 weeks later on 3-20-07/ when i ordered it i was told 6 to 8 weeks.. then later it became 6 to 10 weeks. well they where right on the money.. i kept track of the proggress here on the forum and found that it was shipped on 3-10-07 and i got it 10 days later here in south FLA.

it is an awsome little ride man... be patient the wait will be worth it.

  7. :happy feet: after a long wait (since jan 10th) we finally picked up the edge last night. :happy feet: we got the SEL, in pewter and black cloth interior w/ BAMR, towing package and reverse sensors. i haven't been able to drive it much but i'm sure we are going to have some good fun with it... i will try to drive it and give a full report. for now here is a couple of things....

i thougth the seat was going to be a just slide lever and back lever.. but it is not it has a driver power seat sweet... the mirror has auto dimming... did not know it had that.... the recliner of the back seats is great specially to admire the BAMR and that thing is HUGE!!!.... my daughter who is 3 1/2 yrs old... was a little upset that her moon roof did not open... but got over it quickly... the stereo sounds good.. not bad for a stock w/o any upgrades.

interesting how the bamr button works... i press it and it starts opening it.. it then stops... so i have to push it again... then on the way to close i push it... and stops again before it is fully closed so i have to push it again... is this a safety thing??

i got the extended warranty and the wheel and tire protection.. I'm sure i will make use of it.

this is turning out to be a long report.. but those are my first thoughts... later there might be more.. and some pics to go with it...

Do you know if the HID replacement kit that your thinking of using will produce an excessive amount of heat?

Can it possibly harm the stock headlight housing?

I've been debating on doing this kit or an upgrade to 4350k super white Mtec halogens

from what i understand this is not a problem. my brother has this kit on his 05 Nissan Murano for over a year now still working beautifully...

I had the HID wanabes on my Acura MDX they are regular bulbs that run at a higher WATTAGE to make more light... yeah it looks brighter. I had them installed on the headlights w/o a problem... i installed them on the fogs... and it melted the clear plastic in the front not the harness... I was able to install regular bulbs and return the car to Acura after my lease was up... it is their problem now...

I belive they run cooler... i will give a full report once i receive the Edge and order the HID kit.
