  1. I guess it is about time I provide feedback on the issues I have had. I got the car back in November of last year, the dealer pushed Ford to do a replacement vehicle but the request was eventually denied. I was not happy when I got the news, however I am happy to say I have had no issues with the vehicle since last year. The dealership has been very good to work with, (have not charged me for any services for the last year), and I am very happy with the vehicle so far. Both my wife and I enjoy driving it and it has become the car we both want to use. Those are my impressions so far. Hope this helps others make there decision to purchase the Edge a little easier.   2. I am in the Metrowest Boston area. Finally received roadside assistance. The driver wanted to try jumping the car and the jump did not work when going from negative to positive terminals on the battery, however when he went from the battery to the engine, it fired right up. I measured the voltage between the negative terminal on the battery and the engine at 12V. The engine is floating/has been floating? If I short the negative terminal of the battery to the engine it fires up. It is back at the dealer now and I am in a new Ford Escape for the time being. Not sure how long they will need my car but I let them know that I am extremely unhappy at this point and expect them to go through everything on the vehicle at this point. I am a little worried about damage to other electrical components with the engine being ungrounded and the potential possibly generated between it and other electrical components connected to it, such as the computer. I also sent an email to the general manager of the dealership expressing my concern and requesting they buy back my vehicle at this point and put me in a new vehicle with the same specifications as the one I already purchased. I have heard nothing so far. Again will fill you in as the saga continues. Thanks everyone. Paul
  3. I guess I spoke to soon. Car appeared to be running fine, although I remote started it this morning and it shut off within 5 minutes. This afternoon I was leaving work to get my kids to a math class and the engine would not start. It wouldn't turn over, lights radio everything inside turned on, but the car wouldn't start. I called the dealer who asked me if I had road side assistance??? I am currently waiting for roadside assistance to come and tow my car back to the dealership, had to get a ride to my house bring my kids to class and go back to work where the Edge is broke down. I am not happy at all at this point. I will update this as the saga continues.
  4. Hi all, Well I got my car back and it sure is nice to ride in the Edge again. I asked the dealership about the engine, it was a long block engine and they said it was a brand new engine rather than a rebuilt one, (I didn't know that rebuilt was an option, but if they had put a rebuilt engine in my brand new car they would have had a lot of explaining to do). They looked up the details on my warranty, it was a 5 year 75K mile premium care warranty. I would of much rather had 7 year since I won't likely put over 10K miles on it a year and may call up the regional manager and ask about that. On my way home from the dealership the collision sensor warning came on stating that the collision sensor was obstructed. I doubled back to the dealership, they brought it in and came out 20 minutes later saying the only thing they could find was the sensor may have been bumped, they realigned it and so far no problems. The vehicle does seem to run better and have more power than the previous engine. Thanks again to everyone for your input and votes of confidence with the repair. Paul
  5. Thanks everyone for your comments. I am optimistic that the dealership will repair my vehicle to "as good as new" condition. They have been good to work with up to this point and Ford and the dealership are standing behind their product. The vehicle had under 50 miles on it when it was driven off the lot, but I am not sure of the build date and don't have access to the vehicle to get that. Interesting about the small block, I assumed it would be a long block, but I guess that wouldn't make sense. I am not going to pressure them to get it back to me at this point, I would rather have it done properly. The warranty they are providing is bumper to bumper so that will be good piece of mind. I won't be putting a lot of miles on the vehicle, so I think I should make the full 7 years. With regards to the Altima, I didn't expect to be in it for this long so didn't push to get a nicer vehicle. I am not keen paying on a roughly $45K vehicle and driving a $25K vehicle, but hoping for an end to this soon. Other than this problem, we have been very happy with the vehicle. I got a lot of information from these forums before purchasing, and also on maintaining, cleaning, modding, etc. It nice to be able to use the wealth of information from this forum as a resource for for my vehicle.
  6. Hi all, My first post and I thought this was the appropriate forum for my post. I purchased a 2013 Edge Limited on 8/1. The comfort, ride, and looks of the vehicle were excellent for the price I paid, and both my wife and I were happy with the purchase. After about 6 weeks I started to hear what sounded like a lifter knock. After reading some of the post on line about "ticks" in the high pressure fuel injection system I assumed that was the problem but made an appointment with the dealer. I brought the car to the dealer on 9/25. I explained the problem to the mechanic who immediately thought he knew what was wrong. He came out had a listen and said it was something else. After a day of diagnoses, I got a call from the dealer who informed me the bearing on the crankshaft spun and they needed to replace the engine. So far the dealer has been pretty good, I have a rental car, (although the Altima is not really comparable). Not a lot of feedback from the dealer as they are still waiting for the engine to ship. I contacted Ford directly and was given a Case # so I could track this. They gave me a 7 year 75,000 mile warranty for the car without me even asking, (although I still want to verify that). So far I have been without the vehicle for 3 weeks. My questions are: - Should I be concerned about reliability of this car? Seems like a lot of equipment gets unbolted then bolted back on, and it is done at the dealership not in a factory setting. - I need to read up on the lemon laws in Massachusetts, I do not believe I currently qualify but have concerns with this vehicle. Ford was not interested in giving me a new vehicle even though I only had 1,200 miles and it was 6 weeks old. If anyone has information/advice that could be helpful I would appreciate hearing it.
