  1. Having the same issue in my 08 SEL AWD, began suddenly at 16k miles. Low pitch hum begins at about 40mph and becomes quite loud and annoying at highway speeds. Have a service appt scheduled for next week.

I had the same issue with my 08 SEL AWD (only 10k miles). The dealership replaced the left rear knuckle and hub assembly. I hope your service appt. goes/went well.

  2. Hi thehume. :D Internet diagnosis is always an iffy proposition, but since you have no sensors on your wheels and the TPMS warning light is not illuminating, it would seem there may be a TPMS problem.

Your car should still be under Warranty (being a 2008) so I would recommend making a service appointment when you have a chance. No rush, since you are driving without the sensors anyway.

However, it is hard to know for sure, since some owners report that the warning light does not illuminate until after up to 20 minutes of continuous driving. Have you driven that far (in one straight trip) since you switched wheels? If you haven't, that may be the problem.

If you have driven the vehicle for more than 30 continuous minutes (just adding an arbitrary 10 minute cushion) and the light has not illuminated there may be a problem. However, only the Dealer will be able to accurately diagnose that. If you have not yet driven the vehicle for more than 30 continuous minutes, I would do so before wasting time on a service trip.

Let us know, and good luck. :beerchug:

I guess you have to be careful of what you wish for. My TPMS warning light has just come to life. I was out for a short trip to fill up with gas and all of a sudden it registered. The warning light has been coming on ever since whenever I start the ignition. The Edge has been parked over the holidays since we've been using the wife's car. Therefore, I didn't have a chance to go on a 30 minute loop around the block as suggested. Nonetheless, I still find it curious.

  3. I have installed winter tires on separate aluminum rims for my MKX and no sensors. Sometimes the system gives the me the message about checking they tire pressure right after I start the vehicle. I hit reset and the message goes away. Sometimes even if I have reset I often get the warning beep 15 or 20 minutes after I have started the vehicle in motion. I say sometimes because this does not always happen. There are times when the warning light does not come at all after starting the vehicle but after driving for a period of time (perhaps 15 to 20 minutes) it finally beeps its warning. I wouldn't worry too much about the system not giving you a warning until you have put your regular tires back on. With the sensors in place, the system should do a self check and if there is anything wrong will give you a warning. I had no problems once I put my regular tires back on last spring - no more warning tones or messages.

Bottom line is that you should still check your tire pressure manually once a month and not rely completely on the system to tell you when the pressure is low.

Thanks for the information. I agree with you about not getting too worried about it. I was just curious that I wasn't seeing what most people have reported seeing.

Thanks for the advice. I believe most of my trips have been short hauls so I'll go for a nice drive and see what happens. Thanks again.

  5. I have an 'O8 MKX and last winter I purchased winter tires and rims without TPMS sensors. I agree with the previous post...all you have to do is hit the reset button and put up with the warning light. It is no big deal. Since you know that the monitoring system is not working you will need to check the pressure every so often during the winter - but you should do this anyway. When you put your regular tires on in the spring the monitoring system starts up again. This way you don't need to go back to the dealer to have them reset the system. It was actually my tire dealer that suggested I not get the sensors and saved $$ in doing so.

    Bill.

I'm just curious if anyone else has observed this. I recently purchased and installed 4 new winter tires with winter rims without TPMS sensors on my AWD 08 Edge. I have not had to hit the reset button once nor do I get any warning light displayed on the dash. The original tires, rims and TPMS sensors are sitting in my garage. Possible TPMS problem?

  6. Wider? If you notice the tire sizes above, they go from 235 to 245 so you're only gaining 10 mm of width (4.2%) going from the 17 to the 18 or 20 inch wheels. That is not enough to make a noticeable difference in fuel economy. In fact the tire compound and tire pressure have WAY more impact than 10 mm would. Most of the friction comes from the air and trying to push a brick through it rather than from the tires. That's why the mileage drops so much when you go from 65 to 75 or 85 - takes a lot of power to push that air out of the way.

The extra weight with more rubber and more metal on the rims X 4 has got to factor into fuel economy with larger tires.

  7. its an 07, sync is only in the 08's?

can anybody else shed some light on this?

its kinda a bungy type cord coming from a little compartment directly behind the mirror, they have red/greed wired going into the mirror/?

IS my rear view mirrow electronically powered? and what would it be powered for>????????????????????????

I think it powers the auto-dimming function on the mirror to prevent glare from headlights from behind. I believe the 07's had this feature as well.

  8. Hi guys and girls. It's Dave here. I ordered my Edge yesterday. SEL, Ice Blue, 18" wheels, towing package and roof rails. Do you think I could find that vehicle in stock here in Ontario? No way. I live not too far from the plant too. Oh well, just have to wait for it to be built. I will be trading in my Freestar van which also was made in the same plant in Oakville, Ontario. I will be towing a small travel trailer 17' (about 2,500 lbs loaded) and was glad to see the tow package. Anyways, I hope you can answer some of my questions down the road. Sounds like almost everyone is very happy with their Edge.

    Hi Dave,

Congratulations on the order. I was in a similar situation when I purchased my 08 SEL AWD vap silver with reverse sensor. There were no vehicles available in the Ontario dealership inventories at that time. I placed my order on December 29th with a Ford dealership in Missassauga (10 minutes from the plant). They called me on January 29th telling me the vehicle was in. I had a vehicle broker negotiate on my behalf for a $40 fee and got a great deal. Recommend this service for anyone from Ontario in the market for a car.

The time will pass quickly and your Edge is definitely worth the wait.

  9. Not sure if you may also be referring to door mouldings that protect the vertical outer edge of the door skin when opened, but if you mean to include the horizontal ones that are applied across the middle of the door, they were one of the first mods I did to my '08 Edge. I ordered mine in the matching Redfire paint from Sportwing (http://www.sportwing.com/catalog/displaycat.pcgi?fm_catid=22&fm_subcatid=103#). Excellent product at a good price, along with fantastic service. The mouldings come with 'no brainer' instructions, are easy to install, and look great. Mine were looking good in less than 20 minutes after opening the box. Comes with everything you need except a tape measure and some masking tape. Highly recommended... pic in my photo album '08GMansEdge' here in the forum.

    Good luck! :)

    Thank you.

  10. Picked up my new Edge on Saturday. The dealership came through for me - four week delivery!! I'm sure it helps that the dealership is only 10 minutes away from the Ford plant where the Edge is built (saw a Ford Flex in the factory administration parking lot on the way to the dealership). Back to the Edge - I think I'm in love.

I do have one concern that has got me a little on Edge lately. I'm concerned about the potential for door dings on my Edge. Before I purchased, I would examine the Edge on dealership lots and I convinced myself that the door molding near the bottom of the door (all in black) would provide the ding protection on the doors. However, after parking my Edge in the garage, it became clear that the doors on my wife's car are perfectly positioned to ding away at will.

What has been the experience of other owners who have had their Edge's for awhile now? Has anyone purchased after market door moldings/guards? If so, any suggestions?

    Thanks for the info.
