  1. No....with all due respect, I think it looks a tad "ghetto"...but what I did install was chrome door handles and it makes all the difference in the look. I kept seeing Infiniti FX's, Lexus SUV's etc with the chrome handles...it only took minutes and the cost was cheap. Jen

Thanks for your comments Jen. I will check into those chrome handles.

  2. Bought the car near the end of June and have put 2000 miles on the car already.

:stats: Signed up today, I think you'll get a pretty good gauge of reliability with how much I love to drive this car!

Have had my 2wd Edge since March. Just turned 6,000 KM's with no problems at all with this 2008 vehicle.

  3. Well, after hearing about the Edge and how much it rolls back when putting it in park, it happened to me. I backed up to my travel trailer (which was on a downslope), put it in park about 4" away from the tongue of the trailer and you guessed it. The Edge rolled right back and cut a hole in the bumper. Nice! Not even 3 months old. This vehicle does roll back more than others as far as I am concerned. I put a "tape on" reflector over the damage until I decide what I am going to do. Just a word of warning to you guys and girls so it does not happen to you.

  4. I keep looking, but never see anyone else with them. The gray wheels are nice in one way, but from a distance they look dirty with no shine to them. I am kind of wishing I had the nice shiney chrome looking wheels. My dealer talked me into going with the larger 18" wheels with these rims. I had never even seen the rims until my Edge came in. I live close to the Oakville plant and see all the Edge's with the nice wheels. Does anyone else have the darker gray wheels and do you like them?

  5. Great response bbf! I don't have much more to add other than you're approaching the nominal break-in period of 1,000 miles. Your Edge's transaxle is equipped with an adaptive learning strategy (ALS). As you keep driving it, your vehicle computer has been adjusting shift points to make them feel more consistent. The ALS is also designed to increase durability. The more efficient your transaxle is working the better your vehicle will perform. If you're still concerned with your mileage, then please have your dealership take a look at your Edge. We appreciate your purchase.

So far I am very happy with my gas mileage. I have just over 2,000 km's on mine so it might not even be broken in yet. But I am comparing this to a 2004 Ford Freestar van that I traded in for my Edge. That van had a 98 litre tank and I would get about 500 km's per tank. My Edge has a 72 litre tank and I am getting at least 575 km's per tank. I just wanted to point out that some of us are fairly happy with the mpg's.

  6. Something that I miss on my ’07 Edge that my ’06 Equinox had is the outside temp sensor.

I’ve browsed around I can’t really find any info on it.

Was it part of an option package?

    Can it be added?

Not sure if you have it on your 07, but my button to push is marked "EXT" right beside all the temperture controls on my 08. I am pretty sure all Edge's would have this.

  7. I spent alot of time looking the Edge Sport over at the NY Auto Show. Sadly it was locked, but there was a very helpful guy from Ford there and he said the Sport would be priced well below the Limited. The goal ,apparently, is to attract even more of a youthful market who may not have as much $$ to spend on their car. Overall I really liked it. Very sporty without a "boy racer" look.

I agree with jamers. If that is a new blue for 2009, I wish it was available in the 08's. Oh well, my light ice blue is nice too. :yup:

  8. I heard lots of receiver rattling & hitch on ball noises too. It due to the way the hitch is bolted directly to the body. The Edge is not the quietest car on the road, we hear lots of highway noise always.

Thanks Bon Dia for the tip on hooking up the trailer brakes. I think I will. Not looking forward to hearing all those noises while towing though. :censored:

  9. When I hired on in Michigan, I was driving a new Super Sport Chevelle. I took a lot of ribbing and finally dumped it 9 months later. Since then we have had over 110 new Fords, Lincolns, Mercurys, Jaguars and Merkurs.

(Today, the SS396 Chevelle would be worth more than any of the Ford's, but who could know?) :banghead:

That Oakville Ford plant provided a job for my father and father in law for over 30 years each. They have both passed away and I will always be thankful to Ford for providing us with food and shelter. I just got my last vehicle on the A plan (my Edge 2 weeks ago) and will always support Ford with the A plan or not. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Dave

  10. The MKX has second row heated seats available! No one's buns have to suffer.

Do you blame all those people for buying an Edge? It's a fantastic vehicle! I have had mine for 2 weeks (today). I see 6 to 8 truckloads of them every morning on the highway as I drive to work. (That is in a 20 minute period). I work in Burlington Ontario and the Edge is built in Oakville.

    Dave :shift:

  11. Towed 200 miles back & forth from Lake Travis to SAT...moderate hilly drive at 70 mph.

Edge downshifted a bit more than normal during acceleration & accending....braking was sufficent....milage decreased ~ 10%...19.5 vs 21.5 mpg (math)

I had intended to take a picture of the rig but a cold front (50º & 25 mph wind) beat us to the lake & I didn't waste any time off-loading & returning ski 1/2 mile to slip.

So Bon Dia, was the total weight of the jetski and trailer 1,000 lbs? I have a 2,000 lb travel trailer (not a pop up) which will be around 2,500 lbs or more full and am really hoping that my Edge pulls it ok this summer. The trailer has brakes which I might get hooked up to the Edge as well.

  12. Hi All,

I'm about to pick up my very first Edge this evening and my wife and I are looking forward to it.

My question on roof rails is that I'm wondering if anyone has installed them by themselves and can tell me how difficult it might be??

    Thanks,

    Jim Michon

Hi Jim. I have the factory roof rails on my Edge. I had my dealer order the roof racks for me. They made a mistake and ordered roof rails. When I opened the box, the instructions stated that it was recommended that the dealer install the roof rails. The actual roof racks are very easy to install though. Just 2 screws on the end of each rack. But I am sure that if you know what you are doing, you could intall the roof rails yourself. Hope this helps.

    Dave

  13. congrats Dave! I've yet to see a roof RACK on an Edge, so I have to hand it to you for being the first one I've talked to. but I like the possibility of adding a rack if desired. my old vehicle, a Ranger had that full size bed which was really great, but I no longer need 99% of the time. but if I decide to transport my mtn bike around, that's one way to go. much better than dirtying up the cargo area and laying it down especially in inclement weather (have to check if there is clearance to stand it up w/ front wheel removed but then I'd need an internal bar w/ front wheel lock). snowboard racks are also a possibility I am considering for the same reason. but for now, no rack!

btw, what brand rack did you get? let me know how it works out.

in the meantime enjoy your light ice blue :) probably matches some glaciers up there in Canada... kinda like camo. lol

Glaciers up here in Canada??? Spring is in the air Bri719. Just finished washing it. It takes a while with all those nooks and crannys. I have the original Ford racks. They look good to me. The only thing is that you have to use 8 screws to attach the 2 racks to the rails. Not always easy to put on and take off when you want to. When I have the racks on, I will show you some pics. I take it that you do not have the tow package. I have an excellent bike carrier that holds 2 bikes and goes right into the trailer hitch. Lot easier than putting a bike inside or on top of the Edge.

    Dave

  14. I am totally with you on this one Bri719! The Edge does look better with the roof rails. I ordered my Edge Feb. 11th and it came in last week. (with the roof rails of course). Yesterday, my roof racks came in which I am going to put on only when I carry a kayak. I have not seen what it looks like yet with the roof racks on, but it's only going to be the roof rails only for now. So there you go my friend, roof rail lovers unite! lol I also got the premium 18" painted wheels too. Looks great. Going out to wash my baby for the first time. :baby:

    Dave

P.S. I have the Light Ice Blue color.

  15. That is a very nice trailer. However, with the Edge you won't be able to pull any type of "solid state" trailer. Your best bet is to get a pop-up. they are much lighter in weight and some of the new ones are as nice as the one you are looking at. The high sided pop ups even have microwaves and bathrooms in them. Many of them now have hydraulic or mechanical lifts so you don't have to crank them up.

I have a 25' Coleman Caravan that I have on the market now. I traded in my tow vehicle, a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, for my Edge. I would love to keep the trailer but I have no way to pull it. I figure in the next couple of years the camping bug will strike again and I'll buy a pop-up.

I disagree with that statement about the Edge not being able to tow a "solid state" trailer. I have a 17' 2,000 lb travel trailer (Maybe 2,500 lbs full) and I know I will be able to tow it this summer.

  16. I picked up the 2007 Edge SL+ from the dealer on October 1. Since then I have put 17000 miles on it (I am in the medical sales business covering 3 states). I changed the oil at 800 miles (don't trust the factory oil) and every 5000 miles (not 7500 like the manual suggests). Always Mobil 1 5W-20 and a Mobil 1 filter.

I had an 01 Lincoln LS that I put 130,000 miles on with the normal wear-outs and repairs. Considered the MKX, but the price differential was just too great (I purchase FMC products under my fathers retired Ford purchase plan).

So Far So Good. I had to have the roof buffed by the dealer due to a crummy carwash, but that is it.

FAST, ECONOMICAL, and QUIET. . . .Love this Car.

Thanks for the update dpboone. You do put lots of mile on your vehicles! I don't blame you changing the oil every 5,000 miles. I change my oil even more than that. Every 5,000 km. That is probably 4,000 to 4,500 miles. (And my manual says to change it every 12,000 km) Forget that.

I just picked up my Edge last week. I have 320 km on it. lol Not sure when I am going to make my first oil change.

    Dave

  17. If you purchased the factory towing package, then the trans cooler is included.

Tranny coolor is located in front of the radiator. It is much smaller than the radiator,

and can be seen thru the front lower openings - below the front grill.

I am attaching a pdf that clearly describes it...

Thanks Iceman! I think I was a little confused there. The towing package mentions an engine oil cooler, but not a transmission cooler. Thanks again.
