I recently purchased a 2013 Edge and I absolutely love him . However, I recently had a break in and along with my electronics, my spare remote key was stolen. I did some research and decided for my peace of mind to have my car reprogrammed so that the old key won't work. I went to one Ford dealership nearby, and they stated that they must have two original keys and were going to charge $300+ to do it not including TWO new keys! They also informed me that the key that I currently have won't work after the reprogramming is done. Now, based on my research this didn't sound accurate at all as the Ford PATS system could be wiped completely with the appropriate Ford diagnostic tool. The original fob key in my possession could then be reprogrammed along with another key. As a result, the stolen fob key will no longer work- or that's how I understood it.
Does this sound accurate or has anyone else experienced something similar?
