  1. Hi jkedge09. My issue ended up being with my transfer case, not my transmission. Unfortunately, like you, my warranty ran out a short time before the problem started. Therefore, Ford and my dealership did not have any obligation to help me. However, we did work out a deal with my dealership. Essentially I paid for the labor to replace my transfer case and the dealership covered the parts. Of course I hoped for something more, but once the warranty ends, it ends. I learned my lesson on this one. Good luck with your issue.
  2. Thanks! I am getting my Edge's transfer case fixed now as we speak. I confirmed that the parts that are being put in it are part of this Ford warranty. I feel much better now.
  3. Hi Roy, I am coming out on the other end of a similar situation, so I know how frustrating this is. I went to the dealership and drove around with the mechanic so that we could confirm we were hearing the same noise. I was describing it as a thump and he heard it as a grind. Driving with him helped to clarify the issue. I hope you are able to get your situation addressed.
  4. Hi Is73800. Unfortunately, I bought it used in January. It is a 2009. The other thing is, the problem is with the transfer case/PTO. I am actually relieved that its not the transmission. What I defined as a thump was actually a grinding noise, as per the Ford mechanic. And apparently a grinding noise speaks to a transfer case failure. I miss my Edge. I haven't been able to drive it in over two weeks.
  5. Would you buy parts from Levittown if a mechanic (not Ford) would install it? Or would you just use the prices to get a better deal from the dealer? I have not heard from the dealer yet with a firm estimate, but I've been calling around. I just got an estimate for a used transfer case (68k miles) one year warranty for $1535 + labor from a mechanic I have used and trusted in the past. Yeah....I hear you about the used cars. I have always bought used foreign cars and I have never had any problems beyond what is expected from wear and tear. This is my first Ford and I am certainly questioning my decision now! Thanks again for your time and advice. I appreciate it.
  6. Thanks for the information. Yes, the mechanic said it is the transfer case or PTU and he is a Ford mechanic. He said it was this issue after driving it and hearing the sound coming from the front end of the car. I was with him when we went for a drive so we confirmed we are talking about the same noise. He is going look into it more closely today, but I am not sure what he is going to do. I would be more than happy to try to get a part elsewhere, but would a Ford dealership put it in? Would I have to take it to another mechanic? Thanks for your guidance. I've had a number of cars in my lifetime, and none of them have given me this level of problems this early on. I checked, I've only owned this car for 2.1 months!!
  7. Just in case anyone was wondering, I got the official verdict on my Edge yesterday. The problem is not in my transmission. I instead need a new Transfer Case, which cost wise is just as bad. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.
  8. Good news DM. I am glad you got your car back. I am curious, is all of that work equal to a transmission rebuild or some work on your engine?
  9. Hi Todd, I just resent you my information via PM. Can you please confirm once you get it? Thanks!
  10. Hi Todd. Thanks for your help. I just made an appointment. I will send you a PM with the information you requested once I figure out how.... Thanks.
  11. Thanks Ford Service. I will schedule an appointment and have them take a look at it. How do I contact you once I do that? Through here or do you have a more direct way to contact you? Thanks.
  12. Big bummer. I got the VIN for my car and the in service date is November 21, 2008. Looks like I am on my own. Anyone have any ideas how much this will cost me out of pocket to fix? Thanks.
  13. Thank you. I've been thinking about warranty details too. My Edge is still at the mechanics until I can get a ride to pick it up. I will look up the in service date and the VIN then. If my memory serves me correctly it was originally purchased in the summer of 09. I am keeping my fingers crossed that that will be the case.
  14. Thank you so much akirby. I had no idea it was under warranty. (Shame on me) I am extremely relieved!! Any ideas on how the dealerships are reacting to this TSB? Any tips for dealing with them. My local dealership has a terrible reputation as being terrible to work with. I bought the car at an out of town dealership.
