  1. Congratulations,we picked up a 07 pewter metallic MKX a couple of months ago and absolutely love it.You are right about the luxury items- I also felt that it was a little bit better put together than the Edge.Don't get me wrong, the Edge was great but the hard plastic surfaces felt a little bit cheap. It also helped make our decision when all the awd Edges were sold out and they had this 07 MKX awd with dvd for waaay less than new.Hope your experience is as good as ours has been.

  2. Congrats on your purchase, it sounds pretty sweet.I know what you mean about the wife killing you over getting mods for a new vehicle but sometimes it is better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. :finger:

  3. It's not surprising that Edge sales are up strongly - a great many Chrysler Pacifica drivers and prospective owners abandoned by Chrysler's exit from the higher-end quality Crossover market have been looking at the Edge and MKX. As the 2004 Pacifica model leases expire, these customers return to Chrysler to be told by their dealers that there is no replacement product unless they are willing to go downmarket to lower end, boxy vehicles now being offered by Dodge (even the re-done Chrysler vans have a boxy look, much like the discontinued GM vans which must be really hurting Chrysler's van sales). My dealer remarked that although overall Dodge Chrysler sales are up at his dealership which is now focusing on entry-level, low-pricpoint vehicles like the base Dodge Journey and Caliber, he is unable to retain former Pacifica owners who are moving to either the Edge/MKX or Asian products since they don't see the boxy Chrysler products as anywhere near the quality or style of the discontinued Pacifica.

As a Pacifica owner looking for my next vehicle, the AWD Ford Edge/MKX look great and I'm glad my Chrysler dealer suggested I take a look - I'd miss the 3rd row seats when the kids friends need a lift, and on sub-zero days, I'm sure there would be complaints about the lack of 2nd row heated seats in the Edge which my older children love in the Pacifica on cold moring trips to school. My only other concern might be the nav system... once one has become familiar with the Pacifica's nav integrated into the speedometer which is easily viewed, it will be hard to start looking off to the side for navigation - perhalps Ford might consider moving the nav screen directly in front of the driver?

There's no question I'd buy an AWD Edge/MKX today if there was a hybrid model available which maintained the trailer towing capabilities of the regular Edge. With gas prices skyrocketing, long trips up to the cottage in the Pacifica are becoming very costly, so I'd bet Edge sales would truly skyrocket if Ford brings out the anticipated Hybrid Edge soon.

Before you jump on the hybrid bandwagon you should consult Consumer Reports. They show that the only hybrids worth the increased cost are the Escape and Prius. In all the other cases you have to keep the car way over 5 years to even get close to recovering the increased cost in gas savings.

  4. Looks like I may be buying a new vehicle before I planned too. My wife's 2002 Rav4 transmission is about to call it a life. For whatever reason we can't get a Toyota to make it to 100,000 miles without something major going wrong. The 2001 Mustang I own has 100,000 miles and most likely (knock on wood) will give me good dependable service for several more years.

We have narrowed our next vehicle down to either the Ford Edge or Nissan Murano. If I had the coins I'd buy the Lincoln MKX. The Edge & Murano are the only two vehicles that would fit our needs. We did try out a Saturn Vue and didn't like it. Loved the MKX test drive, but have not tried out the Edge although I expect it to drive similiar to the MKX. With the Murano, we haven't tested it, but for the money the Edge appears to be the better buy. The price of a Murano with the options we want is closer to the MKX. From my perspective, the Edge is the way to go. The 'Boss' will make the final decision. Fortunately from my perspective, we won't be buying another Rav4. How do you increase the size of a vehicle and take away legroom for the driver? I can't sit in the newer Rav4 without my right leg rubbing up against the underside of the dashboard. IMHO, Toyota is the most 'overrated' car company on the market.

My own research shows relatively few issues with the Edge. I see numerous complaints with windshield glare on the 2007 models, but none with the 2008 models. How did Ford fix this? Darker colored dashboards maybe? Every 2008 Edge we looked at had a dark colored dashboard.

If you really like the MKX why don't you look for a low milage lease return of a 07?I was able to get one with 20000km on it with the overhead dvd for about the same price as a loaded 08 Edge.

  5. If you saw my post elsewhere I was having problems with my seats keeping the memory between my wife and I.Took it to the dealer and this is what he gave us.

  6. Welcome,I am sure that you would like the Edge, and would stick with the charcoal interior(especially if you have kids or kids will ever be in the car)as far as the exterior color either is ok but I am more a fan of the copper or black. You will like the power, handling and room, the only thing to keep in mind is that it is a big car so don't expect small car mileage.Good luck finding the one that you want.

  7. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem with the seat settings or not but it doesn't seem to remember the two settings. My wife can set the seat and mirrors where she wants them and then follow the owner's manual to set the seat, get out , lock the car, unlock it and get in and the seat doesn't go to her setting. It did hold my settings until she took it to the dealer. He said that he reprogrammed it and it worked fine but when she tried it at home it didn't go to her settings.Even worse is that it isn't going to my setting anymore even though I tried to reset it four times tonight.I know that it is a minor piss off but it shouldn't be happening. What's the point of having two seat memories that don't work?Any suggestions? :banghead:

  8. You can blame the oil companies themselves.I saw a leaked Chevron memo from 20 years ago that said that the only way that they could increase the profit margin on gas was to make less.Hence the reason that they haven't made a new gas plant in so long even though the demand keeps going up.It's not that there is no oil out there, they say that the oilsands here in Alberta are the second biggest confirmed oil reserve outside of Saudi Arabia. That doesn't even count the oilsands in Saskatchewan.

  9. Sorry to hear that you don't like the ride-I guess you didn't take a long enough test drive. The oil spots could be from the awd system,I have read that quite a few people have had a leak problem but that once fixed it does not happen again.I also agree that you might need to find a different dealer, you wouldn't be the first to find a crappy dealer.

Hope it works out for you

  10. Congratulations on your purchase,I'm sure that you will enjoy it.You are right about the mat seeming flimsy,we have it too but it seems to be strong enough. After all what are you really loading back there anyways.
