Should have checked it myself but shop found he was low on oil and I know he just changed it last month. They added some and he told me noise went away. Maybe the sound was lifters. again I really appreciate the input. I own an explorer and was hoping and happy to see this forum had good dialog between members like that of explorerforum.com people helping each other out

I really appreciate this very detailed response. Another friend had phaser issues on his F 150 this past winter and found his camshaft was scored so he replaced the truck. This engine does have full synthetic. Again, thanks for the response.

Thought it was something resonating at a certain rpm but it Will not make the rattle if slowly broght up to and down from 3500 rpm.
