  1. I'm not a car sound system fanatic (I'm getting older and the ears are not what they used to be...lol) but the factory sound system that I have just doesn't have the bass response I would like. I do like the system and it works and sounds good, except I think that a sub installed in the rear compartment where the Sony sub usually goes would give the extra bass I am looking for (I don't want to rattle the windows, though). Can a sub be added to my system without messing up all the MFT and Sync gizmos that are already on the car. Is there one available that would fit in the factory mounting location and look almost stock? I know very little about this stuff, so any advice/help would be appreciated.
  2. Just for information purposes, I bought my brand new, homelink equipped, genuine Ford OEM Visor from an outfit named Tasca Parts that sells primarily on ebay. I got the item for $275 including shipping (and, of course, no tax)....a bit cheaper than at the Ford Dealer. It arrived in an Original, never opened Genuine Ford Parts box all properly packaged and in perfect condition. The Part Number on the part is CA18-7804105-BA, and it is the "Light Stone" color that matches my interior perfectly. For us "perfectionists", it seems like a good value. It is advertised to fit 2011-2013 Edge and MKX vehicles. And, it also fits vehicles with or without the Vista Roof (my Edge has the Vista roof).
  3. I just performed this "mod" on my 2013 SEL for the same reason the author of this article did. I was doing great until I got to the part about finding the factory electrical connector and probably never would have figured that out without this article! Popping off the A-pillar trim and lowering the headliner is very easy, but who would have thought that would be necessary to find an electrical connection? Anyway, thanks to this author, I finished the job very quickly once I understood what to do....thanks so much for sharing your experience!! (I also bought a "new" visor...guess I'm a perfectionist too, but the car only has 300 miles on it and I want factory look above anything else!). And the new part looks and works great!
  4. I did post an item under new member introductions that was very much like this when I bought the car.....maybe it's me whose losing it? You know what happens when you get old (with the mind, I mean). Sorry if I duplicated, but I really am surprised at how fast my "taste" changed when I started considering and then buying this car.
  5. Id'a never thunk it! When we started looking for a new car and had narrowed it down to an Edge, all I could think about was a loaded Limited with all options and chrome everything! That's always how I liked my cars. Then, a dealer friend told me about this brand new but "leftover" 2013 SEL that they had on their lot that was loaded with every option available (Unbelievably high MSRP for an SEL) and they REALLY wanted to sell it! So, I went to take a look. It really turned me off when I saw it...it had the SEL Appearance Package which means little chrome and very large, mostly black wheels, Except for the beautiful RUBY RED paint, I thought that this was definitely NOT the car for me. But, we drove it and saw how many gadgets it had, how well it drove, how comfortable it was and all that, but still walked away because I couldn't get by the "plain jane" appearance. Well, after about a month of this dealer enticing me with better deals and my looking at it more and more, guess what? I not only started to like the looks of the car, but also started to like the "monochromatic" look, painted grill, and large black wheels. I ended up buying it for what has to be one of the best deals I've ever gotten on a new car, and now I absolutely love it! It is quite unique looking for a car as common as the Edge, and really does stand out in the crowd! I can't believe how much I like this thing, and now find myself looking for ways to get rid of the little chrome that is on the car, add some "racy" appearance details, etc. I guess we can all learn to like new and different things, but if someone had told me a couple of months ago that I would buy a car like this, I would have thought they were nuts. But I'm having a ball with this thing.....never say never!
  6. OK, you guys, please be kind to an "old guy" who stumbles with all this new electronic stuff (lol). I just traded my 2009 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition for a brand new, absolutely loaded Edge. There is so much electronic stuff on the Edge that I can scarcely remember the tutoring that the dealer gave me when I took delivery....but I sure do remember being impressed with everything that it can do! Anyway, the Explorer had Microsoft Synch on it, and the dealer had programmed my cell phone to work well with that system. BUT, my cell phone is an older model and does NOT have Bluetooth capability. The new dealer was NOT able to get it to work on my new Edge! Does my phone have to have Bluetooth to work in the Edge (which would mean new phone time) or can it be made to work a different way with the "MyTouch" system? Seems like a simple problem, but I can't seem to get anywhere with solving it. Anybody out there that can teach an old dog some new tricks about this issue? Also, is there something about having a Bluetooth capable phone that enables other features of the My Touch system? Help!!
  7. I guess that's why they make all the different models/option packages! Something for everybody. I sure like that Limited model described above in Platinum White with Sienna interior! That's purty! My only problem, no matter what model we're talking about, is learning to use all of the electronic goodies! I'm sure I will figure them out.
  8. OK, so the Ford Edge is made in the SE, SEL, Limited, and Sport trims, and there is a lot to consider when actually going to purchase one. To me, the SE is the entry level trim (a great value), the SEL is the mid-kevel choice, the Limited is the Luxury version, and the Sport is the really sporty, more powerful version. I evaluated and drove all trim levels and learned that there are many good things about all choices, and some things that I didn't like about some models. After a lot of head scratching, I found that (in my opinion) the SEL model has the most "moldable" option list of any of the other trims. I bought a loaded one with almost every option available, which put the MSRP up above a loaded Limited. and very close to a MKX! But, I got all the goodies that I wanted (and some I could have done without) without the overload of chrome and fake wood of the Limited or the hard ride and oversize wheels of the Sport. Nothing at all against either of those trims, it's just that I found the SEL easy to be made into a car that resembles the Sport, has that monochromatic (de-chromed) look that looks, drives and performs exceptionally well with packages that make it very easy to put together, and in my opinion is absolutely beautiful (of course the ruby red paint doesn't hurt the appearance). How do others feel about the available trim levels, and how would you put one together? It's an interesting topic that really brings out the differences people look for in cars!
  9. I guess that I'm a little on the clumsy side when it comes to doing mods like installing this home link switch into an existing visor. SO....I found what seemed like a good deal on a brand new visor with the mirror and home link already factory installed and bought it outright. Still a little spendy, but considering that it is going on a brand new vehicle, I feel justified in taking this route. I'll just have to do without food for a couple of weeks! (lol).
  10. Being a new Edge owner (I have a very monochromatic, de-chromed example) I just noticed there are body side moldings that are available for these cars. The moldings come in a kit with everything needed for installation, and look like very good quality. They are pre-painted. My interest would be to add them to prevent parking lot dings. Has anyone added these? Do they look good and are they actually substantial enough to prevent dings/bumps. Anybody have an opinion or experience to share? Another question: As "loaded" as my Edge is, they forgot to put the "Home Link" (Garage Door Opener Option) that fits in the driver's sun-visor on the car. What a silly thing to forget on a car of this caliber! Anyway, does anyone know if the sun-visor WITH the Home Link buttons installed be bought through Ford? Would this be a difficult installation? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Not to beat this subject to death, but I got interested enough in the build date vs model year discrepancy on my new 2013 Edge to call the owner of the dealership from whom I bought the car. He basically said that the Edge is a relatively "long lead time" vehicle (it takes a long time between ordering a new car and actually receiving it....really? I wouldn't know) Anyway, he said this car was ordered in very late 2013 which put it in the build "que" at the same time that the 2014 models were coming out. So, what Ford does in this situation is to keep one assembly line supplied with 2013 model parts while the 2014's will be being built right along the same line. He said that mine was the latest build date for this to actually come to his attention, and my car was probably built with 99% 2014 parts, with only 2013 specific items used where appearance and/or option changes occurred. Of course, once the car is complete, the VIN will depict a 2013 model. He agreed that this seemed sort of "bogus", but he said that they haven't come up with a better way to do it. And he said the same issue spreads across all high-volume Ford vehicles. Anyway, it looks like I got sort of an oddball car that was built on a 2014 assembly line but is fitted out and certified as a 2013. Actually, I think that's kind of cool as it means I really have a "newer" car than I thought I was buying.
  12. Beautiful car and detail job. I'm in the same boat....just bought a brand new SEL with EVERYTHING on it, and it definitely needs some additional detailing over and above what the dealer did. Mine is the same Ruby Red, but has the 20" black/machined wheels on it that I think were part of the SEL Appearance Package. The black part of the wheels has some sort of factory "goo" (or some other substance) in some spots and this needs to be removed to get the wheels up to perfect appearance. The black part of the wheels is very shiny, and I'm concerned about what to use to clean the "goo" off and not do any damage to the painted finish on the wheels. Anybody got any suggestions on what cleaning product I should use to detail these wheels? Appreciate any tips in doing the job as well!! Thanks.
  13. This is a bit of a mystery! I guess that someone could have ordered the car in something like June of 2013 and it took the factory until October to complete building the car. The question then becomes "when is the VIN assigned to the car"? If it was on the date of order, the car would be a 2013, but if the VIN was assigned upon completion of the build, it would be a 2014. But this would imply that they have to run "side by side" 2013/2014 assembly lines for a few months each year. Interesting question.
  14. Wow! I looked at the "data sticker" on the car, and it shows a date of 10/13. That seemed late enough to make the car a 2014 to me so I used the "VIN Decoder" in the above mentioned website (lots of info there). It actually confirmed a build date of 10'29/13 at the Oakville, Ontario plant. I always thought that they ceased production of the previous year's model in July or August of the preceding year? My car's build date seems to be October 29 of 2013. Is that for real? Is my car a 2013 or did something get screwed up and it is really 2014? That would be cool!
  15. I just bought a BRAND NEW 2013 Ford Edge SEL AWD... that's right, a 2013 with 0 miles, brand new, off a dealer lot. I was "sort of" looking at the 2014's as my 2009 Explorer was just becoming too much for me and I wanted a more "car-like" vehicle. I tried them all....Ford really does win! Anyway, a dealer friend of mine called to inform me that his lot had this brand new 2013 SEL at a very attractive price. Apparently someone ordered this car about 9 months ago and when it came in, the guy had gone bankrupt, which apparently tied the car up for several months, When it was returned to the lot for sale, the 2014;s had come out, which made this 2013 a year outdated. Also, this is no ordinary SEL....it was ordered with EVERY available Ford option, which drove the sticker price up to above the level of a heavily loaded Limited model and even encroached on the MKX! It's a beautiful car (the ruby red color) with all of the upgrades. The dealer needed to get this car out of his inventory and began offering me some pretty good deals including the trade of my Explorer. After about a month of "dickering", we finally came to a deal and I got the car for what I consider an absolute steal! What a rig....beautiful, responsive, comfortable, and loaded with gadgets that I will probably never figure out. It's fun to play with. I've never seen an Edge equipped quite like this one....the only chrome on the car is one piece above the painted grill and one piece on the tailgate....it is very monochromatic, and has the black/machined 20" wheels (which I hated at first but have now learned to really like them). I like that it looks different than most Edges on the road (and there are a lot of them). Now all I have to do is go back to college and get a new bachelor's degree on how to operate all of the electronic gizmos on this thing. I have now driven the car for about 3 weeks and absolutely love it. I see by reading this site that these complex cars can be a bit cantankerous, so I'm hoping I might have lucked out and got a good one? Everything works great so far.
