  1. I received the dash kit from Edashkit last week and found some time to install it on Sunday. EdashKit It took about an hour to install it. I had ordered the Birdseye Maple. There are a few notes on the install:

    1. The 3M promoter stick is not needed. I had used it on the center console which created some problems. When it comes in contact with the adhesive on the rear of the trim ... it sticks like crazy!!! It is hard to remove to re position the trim piece. I would leave out this step as the trim pieces are on with no chance of peeling off.

    2. Get more cleaning swabs. The kit does not have enough.

Overall I am happy with the kit. just wish the colour was a bit lighter ... but it does "finish" off the interior. Seems this was what I felt that was missing.

  2. Yup Mine sucks, My advice sell IT!!! I bought mine in Feb 08, Sold in July 08. They all say it needs to break in! Yeah right.. Its just the stadard line to get you to delay you from doing anything. It sucks plain and simple.. Get a fusion ditch the edge. Or just get something else. You'll take a $10,000 hit. Complain to dealer and customer support does very little. Mine got 20 miles per gallon at the very best. I think I did get 30 miles / gallon once, just like the sticker said, but that was goin down a very steep hill. I'm so pissed off with FORD right now.

keep in mind fuel for me is about $1.35 / litre. what is goin to happen to that price in 3 years? and still paying for this gas goblin? So I got rid of mine. The vehicle will turn people off FORD. Ford does not get it, I'm happy they lost 6.7 billion this quater. Mileage is top now days not horse power.

The edge was nice, but milieage will kill this vehicle, keep in mind most people that say its good, don't check or what are they comparing it too? My 3/4 ton ford diesel is better on fuel than any ford edge, and at double the size, thats sad.

Stay close to the GAS STATION WITH THIS CAR!!! Mine had 20,000kms on it, break in is a load of crap. Just a way to delay your anger!

I have 10,000 Kms on the clock and I get great milage. My average is about 22 to around 26 MPG IMPERIAL driving during rush hours from Don Mills to Brampton on the 401 Highway!! When I went up north hauling a utility trailer with a 12' aluminum boat mounted upside down on it I got close to 28 MPG Imperial wich was not bad. Now I stick to non-Ethanol fuels ... usually from Petro Canada. BTW .. previous ride was a 2003 Land Rover Discovery II SE-7. My gas bills have dropped considerably since getting rid of the LR. Gas here is now $1.24 a litre ...

Do you club race up at Mosport at all ?

The last couple times I've been up there the Porsche Club had the main track for the day. Some of the members have way to much cash and look to be running the next thing to a pro team. Transporters, real mechanics as opposed to shade tree ones, etc....

Never thought about the side air bag issue. It probably would interfer but I don't see how it would be that big a deal as the airbag deploys out and away ?

Don't race ... just do the Driver Ed days as well as when there are "lapping" days put on by friends who have Porsche garages. I usually do Shannonville as there is a small chance of hitting the wall. :redcard:

Side airbags deploy down to protect the passangers ... side curtains. They pop down from the headliner.

  4. I have H9 NARVA bulbs in my low beam position!!!! All one has to do is trim part of the large tab on any H9 bulb and gently place it in the socket. BTW ... NARVA H9 is 65 W ...

My highbeams were replaced with the new Toshiba HIR 1 bulbs ... very bright!!! Nice fit as well.

I talked to him and he gave me the above bulbs. He has good articles on lighting and related issues. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/

    From his website:

    H11 bulbs

These new single-filament 55w bulbs are quickly supplanting HB4/9006 in new low-beam headlamp and fog lamp designs. (They are not physically interchangeable with any 9000-series bulb!) As is the case with other bulb families—such as 9004/9007, 9005/9006, etc.—the H11 has different base keys than its H9 high-beam and H8 fog lamp counterparts. Somebody goofed on the spec, though, for the difference between H11 and H9 base keys is insufficient; it's too easy to install an H9 bulb where an H11 belongs. The difference in light output between these two designs is enormous (1350 lumens from the H11, 2100 from the H9), so putting an H9 in place of an H11 will obviously cause the lamp to produce a lot more light. Some lamps are designed such that the optics would handle the extra light well, without creating excessive glare for other road users. Many, however, are not. As with H8 and H9, H11 bulbs are not widely available in the afterma rket.

    * 55w Narva or Osram: $13.50

  5. Neighbour has a Murano ... is smaller than the edge as well as a higher price for something closer to the Limited package.

Stand back and look at how the exhaust is run uner the axel on the Murano. Hit a low object ... or as in "the great white north" a snow bank or such and then price out a new exhaust sytem. Brother in Law is a shop forman at GM ... he did not like the way it was routed.

  6. My 2008 AWD is great ... don't use gasoline with ethanol ... makes a difference!

Wednesday drove from Toronto to a village called Oro to pick up a 12' Starcraft aluminum boat with a 7' utility trailer which was 65 miles away. Drive is not straight highway ... has a detour through a few smaller cities and I had the AC on. Drove up, picked up the boat and mounted it upside down on the trailer. Drove back home and got 28 MPG to Imperial gallon!!! Not bad. I now have 10,000 Kilometers on the Edge ... mileage WILL get better!!!

  7. Update: met with the Service Manager last night (open till 8 PM) and he checked the dipstick. It was over. He told the shop to take it in and give me a paid oil change and to make sure they put in 5.2 litres of oil. I waited and checked out the new Flex ... nice BTW.

15 minutes later I was called into the service bay and was asked to confirm the oil level. It was smack on!!! The Manager had researched it and got confirmation as to the proper fill. The tech that worked on my Edge was a young tech ... early 20's and is now looking after the maintenance. He and I talked a bit and I learned that the older guys just dial and fill. He was taught by old school to check the dip stick before completing the fill. He also told me that the shop was informed as the the correct fill for the Edge (seeing as the manager has one himself!!!; self interest I guess) and it was posted as to what the fill is. It seems the techs hear Duratec and automatically fill to what they were used to!!! Guess thats changed now.

GREY ... here in the greater Toronto area we have many Ford Dealers who are looking for business. I have many to choose from ... this place I took it to was not were I bought it. Dealer was closer to home than the one closer to my Office (35 miles difference). As a side not ... I am getting close to 27 MPG Imperial on the highway pulling a trailer with a 12' Aluminum boat mounted upside down on a utility trailer ... with the AC on!!!

  8. Folks ... I am having an issue with a Dealer here in Canada. It seems they like to over fill the crankcase with oil.

Tha manual states that the fill is 5.2 litres and the techs are filling to the 5.7 litres as 'that's what the Duratec engines take". I had brought it to the dealers attention two more times. It seems they take the vehicle to the bay, check the dipstick and say that it is half a litre over. They hoist the Edge ... drain the oil and proceed to refill it HALF A LITRE OVER again.

I have sent an e-mail to the Service Manager who called me back within 20 minutes. He is going to check this out and I have made an appointment to see him Thursday after 6 PM. The manual states 5.6 QTs and/or 5.3 Liters. They are overfilling and NOTc checking the dip stick. I have ALWAYS checked the dip stick for level. ave been doing it since the late 60's!!! What is wrong with the "factory trained wrenches"????? Does no one check the level????? :banghead::banghead::redcard::redcard::redcard::redcard::redcard:

Check your levels ... don't depend on the dealer to know ... I will always check it before I start it up at the end of any service done at a dealer. This also happens at Land Rover & GMC ... so it is not just Ford. I have a Porsche and the shops here always use the dip stick to check levels when doing an oil change.

  9. Just to clarify - using Nitrogen doesn't affect your mileage. Keeping your tires properly inflated does and Nitrogen helps with that because it leaks out more slowly. But as long as you check your tire pressure regularly you'll get the same results with plain old air.

Nitrogen remains constant throuout the temp changes. I have not had the need to add or remove any "air" from the tires. The pressure remains constant thus keeping them at optimum for milage (and wear).

  10. One way to ensure the milage is good is to replace the air in your tires with Nitrogen. My dealer does this with all their vehicles and my tire pressure has remained stable since March 4 th of this year (canada does get cold & hot).

When you fill the tank ... try to use gasoline without Ethanol. Ethanol is less than gasoline in "power" and your milege will be about 10 to 15% less than 100% gasoline.

Two weeks ago I went up north fishing with a 7' utility trailer attached, with a 12' Aluminum boat mounted upside down (on cross bars) with a 6 HP Johnson outboard, 10 CDN gallons of gas in cans, 10 gallons water & assorted boating accessories. Inside there was two of us, a 100 lb Golden Retriever, food & drink for 3, assorded crap such as fishing gear ... bug zappers etc (basiclly loaded up) and my milage up there and back on the highway was 28 MPG (Imperial) on regular non-ethanol gasoline!!!

Other times I have used Ethanol blended fuels and have noticed a loss in power as well as milage.

  11. I use P21S on the exterior. You don't need to worry too much about getting it on the plastic and rubber. This wax does not turn white as others do.

I also use this wax on the glass portion of the BAMR as it is safe to do so. Same with the external mirrors and lenes. As a benefit ... the rain flows off the glass fairly fast with virtually no spots. Inside glass, I use stoners ... cheap at Costco.

  12. Is this the same as alignment? Mine were perfect when I bought it and then within the first week I was still adapting and was having trouble estimating the largness of the vehicle and I clipped a curve with my front wheel. After that it kept shifting to the left on the highway only. So, I told them they aligned it. But I sort of feel as if it is beginning to shift to the left again after a couple of weeks. I am frustrated too even though it's not much to go on. I didn't know it could be the tires.

The tires may be moving on the rim.

Mark the rim & tire with a piece of chalk or grease pen.

Take it out for a drive and try braking hard (when safe to do so). Do this a few times and look at the marks to see if they line up. You may find that it has moved which indicates that the tires are not seated properly on the rim. You may have to take it back to where they were mounted. This is a common problem that most over look. The only other thing I can think of is a problem with the tires or rims.

    Hope this helps,

  13. Hi JAAK. :D The wood in the MKX with the Light Camel (tan) interior is called "Figured Maple". In the Charcoal Black or Medium Light Stone interiors, it is Ebony.

Also, just as an FYI: In all three it is real wood, not "woodgrain".

Of course, I am referring to the wood trim that comes standard from the factory. Not sure if what you saw was some sort of aftermarket package or not.

    Hope this information helps.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

    bbf2530 ... thanks!

It is an aftermarket one ... realise the factory unit will NOT fit!

So Figured Maple it is as I have the "Light Camel" interior. IIRC this place does have "real wood" as well. Link is on my home PC.

Thanks again .... I did like the colour combo when I saw it.

P.S. ... found the link to the site. http://www.edashkit.com/store/p/2713-With-...it-31-Pcs-.html

  14. Grab handles get in the way of the side curtin airbags ... hard to tip the edge as the stability system takes over!

    My "track" beast is a 1986 Porsche 944T (951) ......

  15. Folks ... noticed a few 2007 MKX's with a nice woodgrain "Panels/Trim" in the interior and would like to get the same colour/grain as the factory version. My Edge is the Creme Brule with the tan interior, 2008 Limited AWD & BAMER.

What was used in the MKZ with the same colour's? In particular the 2007 models which I had seen on the dealers lots here in Canada. I want to get the basic kit from a site posted in an earlier thread; it's around the $200 mark.

    Thanks in advance,
