  1. Hello. I posted this problem in another thread. My 08 is now having this same vista roof issue. It only closes to within 8" and then stops dead. The roof also makes an awful grinding noise. I'm calling the dealer this am. Any fixes or ideas this could be? since it is supposed to rain later today and all through tomorrow, they will need to get the car inside asap.

  2. I'm bringing this topic back up because our 08 just started to experience this issue of the bamr not closing all the way. My warranty is up in 50 miles! The lease is up next March. Has anyone on here had any luck with white lithium grease sprayed on the rails? I tried it but the glass always stops about 8" away. Another thing the sunshades close fine but i have to press the open button repeatedly to get them to open, they used to just glide by holding the button down. Of course it is going to rain tomorrow! I am calling the dealer first thing in the am. Anybody have clues and or fixes you have had? thanks

  3. We traded the wifes 330 for a new 2008 edge last week and all is well, joined the forum about aweek before thr purchase to read up on the edge. Will be post some question as we go, looking forward to building a good back ground of inforation for all.
:redcard: Whoa, slow down on the keys chief. Get spell check for your posting. :hysterical:
  4. You must check out the Burning Smell Thread on this forum, 23 pages and it will blow your mind! Mine started leaking@ 15,000 m. No visible leakes on the floor as the fluid drips and simply burns off the hot exhaust pipe. If you live in an area that lays down salt and you have the 18" chrome clad's, prepare to have them replaced as well. Other than that not a bad car. I miss my SHO. can't wait for the 2010. Eco Boost!

  5. It's going to make it even harder to check for the PTU leaks you may or may not develop, unless you have a floor jack. Don't want to scare you or jinx you but keep a watchful eye on this issue. Other than that nice pics as I have the same Edge, do yourself a favor and put on the color matched door moldings.

  6. What is Ford doing for your chipping/peeling plastic rims? How much are you asking for '88 GT ?
The Service Mgr. said they would be replaced, but we both agreed to wait till all the roads are clear here in Ma. I just want them documented. the salt is killing these, should of gone with the painted steel wheels. Shoot me a pm in re: to my Mustang ok? Doug
  7. Just to update, it's been since Feb. 5th and we still haven't smelled the 'burning smell". the car was supposed to go in yesterday for a complete PTU replacement. I called and cancelled the appointment. They will sit on the part for one week then send it back as they don't want a $1,500 unit in inventory. I'm bringing the car in to them on Thursday though for a free oil change and Dean, the Ser. Mgr. said they would check to see how much if any the seal is leaking. They will be taking digital pics of the chrome clad wheels that are chipping/pitting. My luck the PTU will leak worse than it appears to now. Still no answer in sight what Ford is doing for the fix, this is what Dean has told me up until yesterday. They just said replace entire unit.

  8. Close to the part number they just installed in mine and then took for a test drive and still leaks. At least they took it for a drive to check it before they called me to pick it up.
What does "close too" mean. Do you have the part#? Check on your most recent invoice. The way these have been leaking the dealer needs to test drive before they give you the keys back. Mine leaked the within 2 minutes when I drove out of the dealership after the first seal change
  9. Mine is going back in Monday for the entire PTU, time will tell....... No smell, actually it hasn't for two weeks now. Maybe I should just bring it back to them when it starts again, problem is the unit is in and I might not be able to have them earmark it for me? I'll have to call them. Getting a free loaner again, it does pay to be squeaky! I won't accept anything less.

I agree with bbf2530, you can drive the car even if it is leaking, I have. Galaxie, what part# was your most recent PTU?

  10. They don't have a fix. After mine being at the dealer for 14 days the fse told them to put another seal in. I went and picked it up and told them that was a waste of time. I think I am getting somewhere though. The customer service rep called and in a real snotty tone told me that she would not be speaking with me about this again since someone had requested a repurchase order to the upper levels of Ford. Don't know how the process works but it sounds like somebody is trying to help me out.
Nice, good luck , I hope this may be a sign for us as well. Did you say you went the BBB route?
  11. FSE and Regional customer care Specialist did contact Dean over @ Gervais and yes they do want the entire PTU replaced. Has anyone had any luck with just the PTU???? The reason I ask is that during this past week I (my family) have not noticed any odor or burning smell at all. Even took a 60+ mile ride yesterday and nothing. The unit won't be in till next Monday and I'm contemplating even having them do the repair. My luck the leak will be worse.

I've had two seal kits and the intermediate shaft replaced so far. Dean and I just don't believe this is the final solution as he has told the Spec. and the FSE. Someone is just buying time.

  12. Isn't this funny, Robin from the Boston office for Ford Customer Care called me back this morning when I left her a message that Gervais Ford got an e-mail that the Field Service eng. wants my car to receive an entire PTU and an intermediate shaft ( which they put in already 2 weeks ago ) It seems like I'm about a week or two behind some of you guys!

I told Gervais that I'll let them go ahead and install it but I'm not all all confident that it'll work. Even Dean, the Service MGR. wants some sort of explanation of why they think that this will work. He's puzzled as well. Doesn't the 7571A unit still come with the leaking seals already in it???

Boy doesn't look too good on the new car replacement angle either, we just wait for Ford to get their head out of their ASS and admit to a problem.

  13. Called Ford Customer Care again this morning to document the 3rd time that the car is still leaking. This time I stated I wanted a fix or a replacement and this must have been the key word as they put me in contact with a higher up who was going to call me back by 2 business days, she (Robin, from the Boston office) called me this afternoon and we spoke for about 15 min. I told her again about all the repairs that have been done, how I am pursuing the Ma. lemon law, having a arbitrator hear my case, and how my 5 yr. old daughter has been sick on and off for a month now. I downloaded a MSDS sheet for the ATF fluid so I can check on any short or long term effects of inhalation.

I told her that the dealer has been very helpful also through this. She also told me that Ford is aware of this issue and is working on it. Many have heard this before. It seems like the channnels are being opened the more I pursue this. I talked to a rep @ the Office of Consumer affairs in Boston this morning as well. I'm actually NOT able to use the Ma. Lemon Law as I'm over the 15,000 miles mark, though i may have the final opportunity fix to help me.

we continue to drive it until someone comes up with a plan. Doug
