Carmax typically gives you $1-2k more than dealers will give you with a trade-in, they make it extremely easy, and won't try to use your trade-in as leverage against you when negotiating the price of your new car. With the last car I bought, the salesperson mentioned that he always uses Carmax and wouldn't trade-in his cars to a dealership.
