  1. I don't have any proof but I suspect that all the parts that are being sourced for all these Edge's with brake issues are causing the problem. My local dealership gets parts from the local Carquest Auto Parts store (go figure). My particular issues with mushy brakes and a horrendous noise when applying brakes in reverse was apparently fixed when a right front rotor and pad was re-replaced. Again, I don't have proof but it's as good a theory as I've heard so far.
  2. Satisfaction finally! On the fifth trip to the dealership the problem with the mushy and squeeky brakes has been fixed. Following up on my earlier post it seems the right front rotor was defective. That was the one making all the noise when the brakes were applied when the car was in reverse. The local Ford dealership sources some of their parts from the local Car Quest auto parts store including rotors. New rotors and pads on the both front tires were replaced and everything seems to be OK.
  3. The car goes in on Wednesday to have the new rotor put on. I will let you know probably on Thursday night.
  4. You are exactly right! I took the car to a local brake/repair shop and he showed me where the right front rotor was causing the noise problem. The rotor would normally show a face that was worn and silver in color. Only about half the face was worn clean (the outer half), the inner half was rusted and apparently causing the noise issue. The inner rotor was wearing normally. I took the car back to the Ford dealer and showed what the local mechanic had found and he was astonished. He said he would call the auto parts store and get a new one as well as a new pad. After the new rotor is installed the Ford dealership will never see me again. They charged me almost twice what the local shop would charge and tied my car up for over two weeks time over the course of 4 visits. Hopefully the 5th will be the last.
  5. I just called the Ford Customer Relations department and bottom line is they "can do nothing". The woman I talked to put me on hold for about 3 minutes after I explained my issue and came back on to tell me that there are no recalls or other things to indicate that the Edge brakes are problematic. I told her that other Ford Edge owners are experiencing the same problem but to no avail. She told me to take it back to the dealership or another dealer...which happens to be 90 miles away. She gave me an address to write to in Dearborn. At this point I'll write them and send a duplicate letter to the Ford Chairman. Because the car is out of warranty I will wait a few weeks and see what happens. I don't think the car is unsafe...fingers crossed. At some point I'll take the car to a brake specialist in town. I'm going to have to pay for the fix anyway so what the heck.
  6. How did you file your complaint? Online, over the phone, or with the dealership?
  7. I was out of town for three weeks on an RV trip and told the dealership I would return. I've been home now for two weeks and have yet to take it back. My hesitation is in some ways confirmed by your problems. If I take it in they'll keep if for a few days and return it unfixed. I don't know who to call or who can get things done. The problem as discussed happens in reverse only but I have noticed that the squeeking happens about 1/2 the time now and seems to be diminishing. I'm hoping that if I do nothing it will eventually go away on its own. Wishful thinking? If you run across someone who knows what's going on let everyone know. Good luck,
  8. Thanks, I'll pass this along to the dealership.
  9. At 49K+ miles the steering wheel would vibrate when the brakes were applied. The local Ford dealer (Steve Coury Ford, Payson, Az.) replaced the rotors. Since then the brakes have been very mushy and when put in reverse the brakes make a loud squeal when light pressure is lightly applied to the brake pedal. The dealer addressed the recall on the brake booster on the second time back but I am now on my fourth return and the dealer doesn't seem to have any idea what to do. They have been in contact with Ford but to no avail as yet. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and if so what was done to correct the issue.
  10. Bought Weathertech aftermarket matts. Will do so again from now on.
  11. Started towing my 2011 Edge Limited during the winter of 2013 behind an Entegra Coach Anthem. Experienced a dead battery just about every time the car was towed. Kept a heavy duty battery charger in the coach basement for those occasions. During the summer of 2013 decided to take the Edge to Jones Ford in Reno and they installed a new (almost top of the line) battery. I haven't had a problem since. I do stop every 2-3 hours to start the car and let it idle for at least 15-20 minutes This process has worked every time.
