  1. I Sea Foamed my Explorer I previously had using the vacuum method and other than smoking out the neighborhood I really didn't perceive any noticeable difference in performance. The only additive I've ever used in the Edge is Techron. I heard of Redline but have never seen it anywhere. Is it typically sold at autoparts stores or mail order only? I might give it a try.

EDIT: Available at my local O'Reilly. $15 bucks for 15ozs! At a buck an ounce the stuff BETTER work!!

I've never had an injector or O2 sensor fail running seafoam. I even buy the spray can and flood the engine with it once a year and never had an issue. Ill stick with what I know there.

As far as coolant I don't mind conventional but the Evans makes a good product imo and it cools duramax, 6.5, and 6.0 GM engines very well and for alot of miles.

  2. None of these things is important. The next thing on your list should be coolant. Do a complete buffered, flush. Rinse twice. (You don't want to have to replace the water pump in these engines).

After this consider changing the power steering and brake fluids. (Fluids wear out and lose their protective properties).

Next pour in a bottle of Techron in the gas to clean the injectors.

    Now fix the deer scratch.

I like cabin air filters with carbon. Tests show they are better on filter diesel exhaust. FYI here's what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004A6NBO2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SRyBzb1D1S2PS

The deer didn't scratch the car, it caved in the fender and both driver side doors. The scratch is new in the past 3 months. Since I told the wife the goal on the car is 500k miles she said it better not look like it has 500k on it, so happy wife happy life, it must look good

  3. For the record I did:

    Plugs

    Trans service

Raybestos Premium pads on all 4 corners (lubed pins)

    Timken rear wheel bearings

    KYB struts

    KYB shocks

    Mobile 1 5w20 w/ wix xp

    Wix air filter

2 new cooper SRX tires (this makes 10 tires total being mounted on this econo beast)

Old pads still had nearly 25% left. The new rear pads groan worse than the oem.

Next on the to do list is clear coat peeling on the hood, front driver side fender has a 18" scratch (and it's new due to deer damage), front Ford emblem is fading, and a cab air filter (I just watched Mac's video on it)

  4. Plugs are on the list but not before vacation on the 10th unless we get time.

I did all fluids at 100k when we bought it from my mom. Amsoil tans and fresh coolant. I had to give up my shop last year so I don't have a place to work and my wife needs it done quick as we only have 2 vehicles on the road at the moment.

I'll look into the Ford credit that would be nice prevacation

  5. Our 2010 edge front wheel drive has been in the family since new with 182k miles on it now. It's never had any work done on it other than oil and filters.

I figure it's time (passed time) for struts, strut bearings, and a set of brake pads.

If anyone has the list of parts needed and part numbers I'd appreciate it so I can get things looked up on rockauto and Amazon and save a little money on repairs.

  7. The strut mount broke at 20k miles and the whole strut was replaced on that side under warranty.

Never been aligned, tires only last 80-90k per set. Honestly never saw a wear issue that needed addressed.

    Hubs feel tight.

I don't feel a need to have vibration dampers. Only makes noise in reverse.

I typically use Raybestos brake parts.

So I need to get rear shocks and a 4 wheel alignment? Front struts are fine and just need new bearing mount assemblies?

Just wait until hub bearings fail to replace them?

  8. Brakes are finally hitting the squeakers at 170k miles. This car has only had 1 front strut replaced since it was new. Otherwise it's all original.

What should I replace as preventive maintenance? I was planning rotors, pads, and front strut bearings.

My other parts in question are wheel bearings/hubs. Do the rear brakes have those dampers? Do I just get rid of them, if so what bolt size? Should I replace calipers or just relube the pins and keep using the originals?

    Thanks for any help!
