nothing is for sure over the internet, lol.  but check for codes first.  there may not be any or there may be a helpful P048X ...

whether it is the module or the fan motor (brushes), it is almost certain the fan assembly, especially on a gen 1.5.  the automatic climate control seems to tax them significantly more than on gen 1 units.

if you want, check the connections at the fan module, sometimes they get corroded/dirty, and could use a good cleaning/greasing.

you will need the nontow version of the assembly, preferably from Motorcraft if you pay to have the job done.

Thank you! I went ahead and replaced it and sure enough, thats what it was. Took about 15-20 mins. Bonus, this whole time i though that the AC was going bad because it has been noticeably weaker the last 6 months. It now feels like the day i bought it.

Also, I just realized it was YOUR videos i watched that helped me do it and diagnosed it for me. Specifically when you said overheating and poor AC at idol but fine driving. Thanks man, you're a legend!

  2. Hi All,

Read alot of posts on this but heres my specific case before i replace the fan assembly:

    2013 Ford Edge 3.5L. 151,000 Miles.

Idling for about 15 mins in MAX AC,  heat starts rising fairly quickly. Checked the fans, both come on strong for about 5 seconds an then turn off. Then about 30 seconds later, they come on strong for 5 seconds and then turn off.

Checked connections and nothing looks burnt. Replaced 60 Amp fuse in position 39.

Is it for sure the fan assembly? Or is there anything else to check before i order it? I have MACTFORDEDGES install video ready, just wondering if there is anything else.

    Thanks,

    TJ

  3. The factory 20s ride almost as good as the 18s because they're tuned that way from the factory. If the springs are the same and the replacement wheels are about the same weight as the factory 20s I'd expect them to ride just as well.

    Thank you sir!

Good info to know. I have 18s on mine but love the look of the 20s. I will keep this in mind if I ever change my rims.

I actually like the style of our 18s better than the stock 20s. However I like the look of a bigger wheel in general as long as I don't have to compromise ride quality too much. That is why I'm looking aftermarket instead of picking up some take offs.
  4. Great! Post some pics when you get 'em on :)

Will do. Thank you again for the help!

I wonder how much it will change your ride? (rougher?) Comments from anyone that has done it? I have a 2009 with the same chrome clad rims. I am not a big fan of them at all, however, I do like the comfortable ride my Edge gets and I get quite a few comments on it. Food for thought...

I test drove one with the stock 20's. seemed like it rode pretty similar. Im not too worried about going with a wheel size that is offered as a stock option. But i am purposely staying away from 22s to help keep the ride quality

  5. What wheels are you getting? Be careful with wheel width, ideally same as OEM. You could go wider, but that would change tire dynamics.

KMC Slides. They are 20x 8.5 instead of 20x 8 like stock. But thanks to your converters that you posted links to, I was able to find the correct tire size to get in order to be within 0.6% total diameter of stock.

  6. Sticking with OEM tire size for the 20's is the best way to go. Keep in mind we are assuming OEM-sized 20s as well. If you have different wheel width, the actual tire size would change.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php

245/60-18 is original 18" tire size

245/50-20 is original 20" tire size

    Compare these two sizes here:

    http://www.sizemytires.com/calculators/compare

Great! thank you for all the info. so by getting the new 20's with a 245/50-20 tire I dont have to flash the pcm. 0.4% isnt even noticable. That was exactly what i needed! Thank you again!

  7. Keep the overall height of the wheel/tire the same to avoid any issues. Even more important if you have AWD. A different height can be accommodated via an update to the PCM, either at the dealer or in a tune if your vehicle is tuned.

Can this be accomplished by getting the tires for the new rims that are the same size as the tires on the OEM 20s? Meaning did ford make the stock 18 and 20s the same overall height so they could program the all the PCMs the same?

  8. My edge came with the 18" chrome clad rims and im looking into upgrading for a set of aftermarket 20s. Will this effect the readout of the "miles to E" reading and speedometer since im assuming the computer was originally programmed for 18" wheels? Is there an easy way to correct this without going to the dealer?

    Thanks guys!

  9. I'm just hating these issues with this car! I'm using a 2011 Edge-practically brand new with less then 5,000 miles on it and so many issues with little things. So I found the factory code at the fuse box and after several attempts of putting it in over and over at some point it just worked. Felt very flukey as I had done the same thing over and over. Several days have gone by and I'm putting the code in and it's not working again! My code includes a letter at the end so it's 5 numeric digits and one letter. Has anyone else had this craziness?

Ive had zero problems. Found the factory code, put it in, changed to my personal one first try and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I usually hide my key in the car when I go hiking, and use the keypad to lock/ unlock the door when Im done . Hasn't failed me yet, My code only has numbers so dont know where the letter is coming from. Maybe someone more knowledgable can help with that one.

  10. I just purchased a 2010 ford edge limited and do not have the keyless entry code. How do I get the code. The number is not in the glove box.

to elaborate on what WWWPerfA_ZN0W said, when you take off the fuse box cover by where your left foot would be, I had to put my head on the floor and look up toward the back, there is a white sticker with black writing that has the number. The sticker is not labeled, it just has a 6 digit number printed on it.

  11. Ive had my 13 Edge w/ MFT & Nav for 10 days now and have it down. I feel its simple and works great for me. Learning curve? Sure there is, just like with any electronics, theres always going to be a learning curve. But I cant see why so many people are complaining. Edgy1 said the climate control was a nightmare and your niece had to pull over to turn the heat up? I dont get that at all. There is more than 1 place to control the climate. If she had to pull over to turn the heat up with MFT, it would have been just as hard for her with any car. I turn mine up and down with the steering wheel controls. Couldnt be simpler or safer. Maybe if i would have had it before the updates I would have been annoyed with some of the problems people claim to have. But think of how many cars rolled out with this system compared to how many people are complaining now. Vast minority have problems.

You wanna make yourself feel good about MFT....... then go get yourself a toyota with their bluetooth touch screen nav package, now thats absolute garbage. Had one for a week as a rental and MFT is a vast upgrade from that trash.

  12. Im 25 and agree with you one some points there. I too was raised in a ford family and have only owned 1 non ford product ( 73 International Scout) that was a project/ off road toy. I went from a 2001 F-250 to a 2004 Mustang to a 2006 F-150 and now my Edge. While I agree that the Edge is no sports car and minimal towing capacity compared to my previous vehicles, I consider it a great daily driver. I wanted a ford product that was decent on gas, not a car, had a some style and had options. And thats what the Edge is. A good looking crossover with decent MPG's ( for me at least compared to my truck) and i got the options I wanted. I put alot of miles on my cars and this is by far the smoothest, quietest ride I have had. Of course i got some blowback like you said with people saying " what happened, you knock the girlfriend up already?" But then they take a look inside and realize that it has more options and looks nicer than their " faster, cooler import". Would I love to drive a GT500 every day or a lifted F-250 with the 6.7L powerstroke? sure i would..... but those are not practical for my every day situation. I bought the Edge for a specific purpose, better gas mileage, more options and a great DD all in a good looking package. And thats exactly what I got. So doesnt matter to me if someone doesnt like my choice. They can keep enjoying their honda civics and race them from stoplight to stoplight like when they were in high school. I have other things to do like enjoy my comfortable ride to work.

ANYWAY..... I hope you enjoy your Edge, hope it stays out of the shop, and hope the GF comes around on her opinion. IMO your driving a nicer car than the one you gave her anyway B)

  13. Just wanted to give an update on how my dip is holding up. In CT we've had a ton of storms lately and was wondering if the salt/snow/ice would have a negative impact. Just went through the touchless car wash and none of dip came off. I also used the toothpick method for the insides of the letters. TJames557, let me know how you do the rims that is my first project in the spring!

Awesome! good to know that it holds up. I will! Theres a bunch of youtube videos of how to do the rims. Its the same idea as dipping anything else really. Thanks for the emblem method, cant wait to do those. I wanted to do it today but ive just been too busy. Im shooting for next sunday. Before and after pics will be posted!

  14. 87 should be fine. Stick with a Top Tier gas station (with high turnover/traffic) to keep problems away.

Regular old 87 for me..... like akirby mentioned, if it's designed for 87, then anything more you're just throwing $$ down the drain.

Don't take this in a literal sense, but just for explanation purposes.... think of higher octane fuels as just watered down 87. It's just a higher resistance to burn... like diesel fuel (just not quite to that extent, lol)

Thanks for the info guys. I contacted unleashed tuning to see what they can do for a programmer.

  15. I just want to clear things up a bit. The ECU on the Edge is optimized for 87octane. Using any higher octane will probably give you a slight gain in power as the engine will adjust timing for increased octane, but not as much as if your ECU was programmed for a higher octane.

I used to have a SCT X3 programmer for my Ford Escape and I had a high octane program that I could really feel a difference in power when running the high octane fuel. I'm actually considering purchasing the newer X4 programmer because when I ran the custom 87 octane performance program, it gave me a couple MPG extra along with more power and better shift points.

I was thinking about a programmer as well... i was going to do some more research first. I had an edge evo on my f150 and i got a few more mpg's and some performance, but wasnt sure how beneficial it is to the edges 3.5L .

  16. It's simple. In a car that is tuned for 87 and which does not have programming to advance the timing beyond that (like your F150) you won't see any benefit from higher octane. None at all.

Many modern vehicles now have this ability. They will advance the timing until it starts to knock. 93 octane fuel will allow the timing to be advanced considerably resulting in more power and slightly better mpg. Vehicles like this will either advertise their power ratings on 91 or 93 octane or the owner's manual will say that using higher octane will give you more power. Most (if not all) ecoboost engines fall into that category.

If your owner's manual says 87 with no mention of higher octane then it won't help.

Thank you sir. 87 it is then!

  17. So i have always heard theories that in certain cars, using a higher octane that what is recommended is better for the car and can get you better gas mileage. I tried it with my F-150 and didnt see any results. So my question is, what octane are you using in your 3.5L and have you seen any benefits of using a higher octane? Here in CA we have 87, 89 and 91. First fill up i did was 87. Should i go with something higher next time?

  18. No, I used a toothpick to trace the letters on the inside and it came right off while staying tight on the letters. So far driving through snow and getting dirt all over hasn't affected it at all.

perfect! cant wait to try this on mine. Im going for grill, wheels and now emblems. Thanks for the tips!
